There’s plenty of places that sell cinestill. But trying to get your hands on 400D is going to be hard just cause it came out

Love the opening shots at Waterloo Complex, I used to love hanging out at the elevated void deck there, I also shot the same table you did. I bought the same 400D and 800T as you did, but from Triple D Minilab. I am based in Aus, and my local lab wants re-assurance that the remjet has been removed. How many rolls have you processed and have you had any issues with inadequate remjet removal?
@visualgrains

Nice photos and what an interesting find with those films! Were you metering your photos with your phone? Or were you framing? Just curious 😅

Its 5219! I've already had this discussion with someone on willems channel! Get 5219 and meter for the shadows so to be clear make the shadows 18% grey put them in zone 5 and see what happens! Color cast evaporates when you over expose it so much! The reds give it away as Kodak stock.
@visualgrains
@visualgrains 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah most of these are Kodak stock, and the overexposure was a mistake haha, the light was horrible that day
@themoolag
@themoolag 2 жыл бұрын
I'm dumb. Can I ask then, why Cinestill advices to overexpose one stop on their film, at least for 800t, I'd assume for 400d as well.
@blackwingvisuals5017
@blackwingvisuals5017 2 жыл бұрын
@@themoolag you are not dumb!! Just inexperienced I suspect! Firstly Cinestill god bless them are rebranding a product made and widely distributed by Kodak! They are keeping film alive by broadening the sales platform for Kodak. Again so anyone who's reading this comment doesn't think I am bashing Cinestill! I love cinestill but they are just rebranding it as their product! They can do so because they are modifying it! If you purchase any Kodak film that still has the remjet on it from an official source it will be branded a Kodak product. Now film is much slower to react to light and it looks nasty if its under exposed in the shadow areas of an image. In order to minimize this for nonexpianced shooters they say run it a minimum of 1 stop hot! Professionals know how to light a scene correctly to get the maximum efficiency from film. Film is only box speed if lit to the correct iso . Example iso 400 if lit to iso 400 on set or in studio controlled lighting nothing left to chance will be near as damit iso 400. In the real world of nothing but the lords big whitey ie the sun iso 400 is 400th of a sec @f16. Who the hell shoots at this unless its midday in the desert! The Sunny sixteen rule! You might have your camera set to iso 400 but if you meter for the shadows you will be over exposing the film! Meaning you will probably be shooting it at iso 50 to say 250 depending upon how bright the scene is. On a bright sunny day if a lamp post is is casting a harsh shadows the shadow will be 4 stops darker than the area not in shaddow! So meter for the shadow! Stick your camera in the shade or your external spot meter and shoot it at what it says. With C41 that will still work! If you want to follow the z0ne system after metering for the shadows open it up a stop or two! Simple:-) B&W film has slightly less exposure latitude so be a little more careful. This was once an everyday science but now its a dark art! All the best image makers using film are over cooking their film massively! Portra comes alive in good light when overexposed 3 stops! That's why you need good light because when you see a shot from say Tanja Lippert or Jonathan Canlas or Jose Villa people you've probably never heard of and are amazed at their work its because its all shot at 60th to 250th of a sec at f2 that's why they generally only use Contax 645 with Carl Ziess glass! In closing Ilford delta 3200 shot in broad daylight and metered for the shadows will in effect be exposed at iso 200 possibly even hotter and it will be amazing! But set it at what it says on the box and you will get a mess! Check out the people I've mentioned you'll be amazed!:-) the people that are really doing it are not making videos they don't have time to. Rule of thumb c41 half box speed meter for the shadows b&w meter for the shadows and open up a stop or two! You cannot fail! Oh also check out Jonny Patience wedding and travel shooter US based but an Englishman I think. And for food shots and travel Lisa Linder! The above mentioned and the Cinestill Brothers Wright are the top of the ladder when it comes to shooting film! As a bonus look up Rodney Smith :-) Enjoy film Digital is lifeless! Its only good for one thing test shots just like Polaroid was used for!
