The "demonic" altarpiece looks like a zodiacal marker, showing the transition from the Age of Taurus (the bull in the centre) to the Age of Aries (the two rams either side). This would have occurred circa 1200 BCE. This corresponds to the Hebrew Exodus from Egypt to their genocidal conquest of what became Judea. I've seen similar markers in other places.
