Gamer Ahmer: I Should've Listened To My OWN ADVICE...
Retro gaming refers to playing and collecting video games, consoles, and accessories from previous generations, typically from the 1970s to the early 2000s. This nostalgic hobby encompasses a wide range of systems, such as the Atari 2600, Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), Sega Genesis, and original PlayStation. Enthusiasts appreciate the classic gameplay mechanics, pixelated graphics, and unique soundtracks that defined an era before modern advancements in gaming technology. Retro gaming not only celebrates the history and evolution of video games but also provides a means to preserve and experience the charm and challenge of older titles.

Nintendo is a renowned Japanese multinational consumer electronics and video game company. Founded in 1889 as a playing card company, Nintendo has evolved into one of the most influential and iconic players in the gaming industry. They are best known for creating beloved franchises such as Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Pokémon, and Donkey Kong, as well as innovative gaming consoles like the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), Game Boy, Wii, and Switch. Nintendo's focus on family-friendly gaming experiences, innovation, and nostalgia has endeared them to millions of gamers worldwide.
Sega is a renowned video game company that has produced a variety of consoles over the years. One of its most popular consoles is the Sega Genesis, known as the Mega Drive outside of North America. Released in the late 1980s, it was Sega's 16-bit console and competed with the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). The Genesis offered a strong lineup of games, including Sonic the Hedgehog, Streets of Rage, and Golden Axe. It also had add-ons like the Sega CD and the Sega 32X, although they weren't as successful.
This is a new series!! Join me every so often and follow me on my videogame collecting journey. I take you live hunting at the thrift stores, flea markets, yard sales, garage sales, on Facebook Marketplace scores, etc. to add more games to the collection. This starts with one trip to the thrift store and grows from there. Watch to see where this leads and the AMAZING finds I score!!
This upcoming week will be AWESOME and I cant wait to share!

That N64 wall IS OBSCENE! Your collection is phenomenal. I have my own library of retro games and systems, but play rather than collect. I “accumulate”, but don’t value NIB or boxes (I do save them, though). My biggest gaming regret is not having a larger area of my home dedicated to the purpose. I own systems that aren’t hooked up, and swap-out when the urge arises. My only other regret was not keeping my original Atari 800XL and games. I sold the whole set-up off in the pre-Internet nineties to fund my Atari ST. I later re-acquired an identical set-up thrice-over. But, those original carts and disk-based games had memories attached to them, as they were hard to find in the late 80’s. When I hunted everything down again years-later, it was just one EBay, store, or show deal after another.

I've got to admit I think it's pretty awesome and very kick ass of you to be a collector. Most of if not all, that I know of have been men but it's great to see women gamers & collectors who can appreciate what it does for us. It's not just a form of entertainment or helps us reminisce the good memories of being a kid in which ever era you grew up (us in the 90s was really awesome). It's also a great form of stress relief and something that helps us wine down or return to center in a positive way. You definitely have one of the best gamer collectors caves I've ever see and I admire you for that. Especially for you being so genuine from what I've noticed during the time I started following, I can't remember exactly when it was. You've never held out or gate kept information from the community, and that's also an important key to helping others in the same journey or getting started.

I wished I had kept my cardboard boxes of the cartridge games I bought. I had no idea that they would be so valuable these days. Granted I have a few TurboGrafx 16 boxes to my games, but those were the few I bought like that. Now for the 32X games, those that I bought new are still in the boxes. Still it’s just one of those things.

I wish I would have been more patient prior to selling my NES, Genesis, Super NES and N64 collection. While I don't regret selling, had I waited I could have gotten more money for it. My collection is now smaller but everything is complete, no missing boxes or manuals. Now being older and seeing my daughter enjoy gaming I realize I only collect what she/I will actually play. Its no longer about quantity but quality of the games i'm collecting these days. I find myself passing on a lot of things I probably would have picked up many years ago.

Yes, disorganization does occur for sure. especially when one either runs out of room or when you can't find the right shelving for your setup. (I'm talking to you, IKEA! Restock!!! 🤣) I do have a "wish list" and most everything is reasonable, not rare. But sometimes, I can't find my items in good shape. I do order items occasionally when I see an item with PLENTY of pictures.

Focus and Organization can be tough as heck. Sometimes collecting is like chasing butterflies. You see something interesting over in that direction and before you know it you have been sidetracked down a rabbit hole far from what you were pursuing. 😂 Bundling is a great piece of advice though. It feels like over the past year or two that is the way I have added the best items to my collection/gameroom. One thing I wish I would have done was actually held onto my old collections. The old NES & SNES collections I had may not have been amazing but the games held nostalgia. I also had an amazing boxes N64 collection back at the end of that era and wish I hadn’t gotten rid of that stuff. Que Sera I guess…🤷🏼‍♂️

When I was younger being patient and taking my time and not trying to rush to get to where others were in the collecting world. When your in your teens and see mega collections with your system and abroad you kinda want to be there asap. And sometimes in trying to become a big time collector or a hot shot and wanting instant standing in the community you tend to burn more bridges than build. Sooner you learn it's a process and with hard work saving up and networking you'll get there. But it's not overnight. And don't pester and annoy big names in the hobby.... if you do they may not be there down the road when you mature

@@GamerAhmer if people only bought the games they wanted to play as they played them instead of buying everything for a system just for it to sit on a shelf prices wouldn’t be as high. I mean look at Japans prices, they buy play then resell it unless it’s something they love and will replay. Having more space in America has made people game hoarders. Games are expensive because they are rotting on collectors shelves. You can’t take it with you

@@drowningin Well I enjoy it all when I can and have been collecting before prices jumped up. I have plans larger than just sitting on a shelf. If it makes me happy why does it even matter. 🤷🏻‍♀️
