Well . Retired GM Assembly line employee 35 Years. Love Corvettes. Have had a 71 LT1 Corvette for 35 Years. Drive it Alot. Put a Elderbrock Dule manifold and 2 Elderbrock carbs. Hooker Headers side pipes. Wouldn't have a newer Vette. I can work on this myself. About 400 Horses.

As someone who works at a car dealership... the reason the offer was low is probably because your Corvette, while awesome in my eyes, is not easily retailable from a dealer perspective. First, the car is over 15 years old, so it'll be much harder to finance. A lot of people don't have great credit and won't qualify to finance that car. Secind, a lot of dealer floorplan companies will not floorplan cars over 10 years old. Third, this car only has two doors and is impractical for your average person. Don't get me wrong, I love Corvettes, I've had one before and multiple manual Mustangs etc, but from a dealership perspective, buying your car is risky from a finance and usability perspective. What if nobody buys it? Now the sales manager has to answer to the GM. His pay is based on selling units. Which do you think will sell faster... like a 2 year old Camry with 30k miles, or a 15 plus year old Corvette that is loud as hell and has a manual transmission only like 2% of the population can actually drive? Also, most people want some sort of warranty with their purchase... who's going to pay for that? I'm sure it would be very expensive. Again, I love sports cars and manual transmissions, but from a dealership perspective, that car is highly risky, hence the low offer. On another note, the scraping of your Hotchkis anti roll bar was highly unprofessional. They should not have sent a person who doesn't know about manual transmissions out to your car. That is quite dumb on their part.

Jake, What you are saying about Carmax in terms of the poor offer is consistent with Carmax and anyone that has dealt with them even once (I have dealt with them multiple times) would know this. There are two factors they use in determining if they can resell your car via Carmax. 1. Mileage 2. Age of vehicle Basically if the car has over 100k miles (I am certain yours does) or it older than I think 15 years old and yours is a 2001 so it would fall under both disqualifiers then they are only going to offer wholesale pricing and just send it to auction. Carmax does not sell either high mileage cars nor older cars (more than 15 years old) at their dealership.

I brought my 2001 Corvette to Carmax a few months ago out of curiosity. It got dinged for a bunch of thing like small oil leaks and multiple panels needed to be repainted (had a scratch from driver door handle to gas cap). The associate finally came back and said, "did you know the odometer was rolled back on this?" Carfax showed someone just entered an extra digit when registering it like 16 years ago and it showed it was immediately fixed but Carmax just saw that and said it was a rollback. Was shocked when they offered $3200.

I went back and looked again and your sway bar has polyurethane bushings. For her to hit it that hard it could of put hairline cracks in the bushings. Eventually the cracks would get worse and the sway bar would become loose. If was me I would NOT let that go. Like I said in my other comment Hotchkiss are expensive top of the line brand swaybars plus it has the more expensive poly bushings. Easy $500 estimate for a new sway and R and R. I use to work for a Pontiac dealer and CarMax's policy would be the same. If you would of damaged their car they would get all of your personal info plus insurance info and either make you or your insurance pay. They would of immediately inspected for damage and got a written estimate and try to get you to pay then or would bill you or your insurance. There is NO way they would let you off the hook.

At least they can talk to this woman about it and hopefully train her better with vehicles or just have her work a desk. Car max don’t need their people ruining customers cars

You should definitely should say something, it may be too late now to get any actual compensation for it (although you do have video evidence of that happening) but I think the principle that matters more. Also if I could get a C5 corvette for $4500 in the same condition as yours, I'd probably cry enough tears to make the car rusty. Maybe because they couldn't figure out how to drive it they must of thought it's like, a rolling chassis or something, absolutely ridiculous.

If I owned a dealership that damaged a car then I'd want to ensure you were made whole and that the part was replaced to ensure your safety wasn't compromised and that our property was returned in the condition it was received. I'd be transparent and forthright with a solution. I wouldn't even question it.

They low balled him them damaged his car then didn't even own up and check for damage. That's total BS. He has video to prove the damage. I'm pretty sure they would or their insurance would write him a check if he told them he had it videotaped. That's total not in their favor when they want ppl to take their cars in for appraisals.

Hey man thanks! I’m 6’5, 215 and I fit awesome in the car. I’m all legs and the seat goes back plenty far for me to never get uncomfortable even on 5+ hour drives. It does help that I have the power telescoping steering wheel option in mine, that was a deal breaker to have for me. I have driven C6’s that don’t have the telescoping steering wheel and it’s no where near as comfortable. I don’t feel cramped in my car, visibility is great, and my head doesn’t come near the roof (then again I’m mostly legs, and have a shorter torso). Hope this helps Andrew! 🤙

I can tell you I sold my 2013 Lexus ES350 to Carvana in April 2021 and the experience was great. They gave me the highest $ amount, If I remember right I believe it was about $2000 more than Carmax. Everything was done through their website. A Carvana rep showed up I signed the papers, handed him the title and later that day They picked up the car out of my driveway. I wasn’t even home they left the car unlocked with the keys under the mat. I sold the car because I wanted to get rid of the high payment. I owned it for two years and didn’t have one issue.

My favorite part was the 3rd row Corvette seats. CarMax mist use a standard form appraisal sheet that assumes all cars do, or might have 3rd row seats to check, but why they would allow theirappraisers to mark a feature ok that doesn't even exist us completely beyond me! Now, I just bought a 12001 Corvette convertible with under 40kmiles on it. Everything looks practically brand new. If your trying to be kind to the Carmax employee then that's ok, otherwise you did not arrive with sway bar damage. If you decide to sell or trade the Vette the buyer will see the bar damage or rust.

Dude, you don't take an old C5 to Carmax...I bought my 2003 C5 there but I would never try to sell it to them, they'll low-ball you HARD. Sorry this happened! In VA we have to do inspections annually and my inspection mechanic offered me $10000 on the spot and I have similar mods to mine, although no headers. Sell private if you want to sell.

Don't fool yourself. Most employees at CarMax have no knowledge of the cars they are selling or what a car is worth. The sales people have no idea about any of the cars on the lot and don't want to know, it limits their liability if it's a bad car. The Appraisers are simply reading a check list that was prepared for them. The price they gave you did no come from the appraiser it came from appraisal software they use. Once again the appraiser needs to know NOTHING about the car other than answer the questions on a form and upload the answers. And yes she likely didn't know how to drive stick and didn't know who made the car and not telling you speaks volumes about their management and culture at that store.

3 weeks is nothing... you have the incident on video and they visibly damaged your rear sway bar and there is no telling how badly they compromised the integrity of the sway bars strength .... a new performance rear sway bar costs between $600 - 800/900 dollars (I believe the Hotchkis rear bar is between $625 - 685 dollars) ... if you didn't have it on video, I would say tough luck but you caught them red handed and they didn't say shit... I would personally take the video to their manager ... I have had a rear sway bar snap on me while racing in my C5R and its pretty sketchy once that bar snaps... those bars aren't designed to withstand impact force like that... torsional force is much different than impact force.... I think you should def be "that asshole" and make them replace what they damaged.... "YOU BREAK IT, YOU BUY IT!!!" 💁🏻‍♂️🤷‍♂️

If you had damaged their car they would of made you pay for it. You should get an estimate for brand new sway and to replace it labor.
