Looking good! Glad to C I'm not the only one keeping it simple 🙂 My 150 also has no sump or similar filtration. I've been using a similar surface skimmer since I put it up and the wave maker pushes everything toward it. I really like the colors in your tank - Keep up the good work.

Having you every thought of adding macroalgae? It will add another form of filtration, movement to the tank, and you could add a few more fish.

Unfortunately the only way to remove pulsing xenia is to remove the rock, its not like gsp where you can put it on it's own rock, xenia releases polyps that settle in other parts of the tank ☹. tank looks great 👍
@DannysAquariums2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that’s what I’m thinking as well. I should be able to take out that whole rock on the right, if I can manage to break the epoxy. That’ll take care of most Xenia polyps and palythoa polyps. Drastic change to the reef, but I think there’s no other way. Thanks for the suggestion! 😉

I Follower that project from day 1 and i'm so impressed. Thinking about starting a low tech shallow like that on my own, but am really afraid. Everyone says as a beginner DON'T DO IT LIKE THAT!!! ... Danny, love your channel, go on!!!! Ps: are These led rs reefer 50 or 90?

Really love this tank and the set up! 👌 Also the fungia plates at the front right are amazing, theres so many! They look like they have been multiplying?
@DannysAquariums2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah, the mother plate died and a few months after a ton of babies spawned on top of the skeleton. I then bought it from a tank breakdown, they almost all died off at first but seemed to have recovered really well. I’m debating whether or not I should cut them from the skeleton or leave them be, since some can’t get enough light as others are overgrowing them.

Its quite normal though to have a tank running without additional filters or sump. As the filtration is already in your rocks and sand. I have tank that is just that, and basically I let that tank run with liverocks alone for about a year. It was actually my rock quaratining tank, which is basically lights out to kill the nuisance algae without killing the beneficial bacteria on and in the rocks. And once my algae issue in all of my tanks resolve with maturity. I decided to just add coral to this live rock only tank and dump a few fish.

I’ve gotten rid of pallys by making a slurry of kalkwasser and filling their mouth with the paste. Saved a number of nice frags from getting overgrown this way. On a 100 gallon system I only use 1-2 1mL syringes per day of the slurry.
@Champsreef3032 жыл бұрын
Yeah i do this as well . But seems like I'm losing the fight sometimes . Definitely have to keep at it..🍄 seem more difficult to deal with. palys seem to have a root system where you can hit a group of them at once

I always find it funny when people talk about not filtering the water but then do constant water changes...... You can filter the water or you can just change the water all the time....
@DannysAquariums2 жыл бұрын
All the time… 10-15% every two to three weeks compared to maintaining a whole filtration system. Saves a ton of time, money and less risk of mechanical failure.

Same issue in my tank: wish I never introduced palythoa and more zoanthes species that grow too fast too soon. I am going to tear down my aquarium for this. At the same time I will be removing my overflowbox which goes across the whole tank width to replace it with a new one that is about 8 liters bigger so that my drains can start deeper and thus I won't be having issues with adjusting the waterheight after switching off the returnpump when doing waterchanges or whatever for maintenance. Furthermore I am going to switch from wheels under my cabinet to adjustable heigth ones.

I knew the Xenia and palys are going to be spreading like wildfire when i watched setting up video. Good that you didn't add GSP else you're going to have problem adding corals. I had issues with palys too. Lucky for me i anticipate it to spread, i threw the whole rocks. Too risky to clean and reuse the rock

Genius man. Some reefers never figure out the bio load/nutrients issue with reef tanks. It’s like you’re an old soul at this hobby. But be careful after the two year mark. That’s when all the troubles start. New reefers think they’re pros until that year 2 hits and then it washes a lot of guys out of the hobby 🤷🏻♂️ Beautiful video skills as well 👊🏻🍺👍🏻

(buiten!)
@DannysAquariums2 жыл бұрын

Dude, should I add filtration to a tank that I am only going to add fish to? (It is a nano saltwater non reef tank)
@DannysAquariums2 жыл бұрын
If it’s just fish, then yes it is recommended to add some sort of filtration. In my tank, corals take nutrients from the fish waste.. but if it’s a fish-only tank that doesn’t really happen. And it’ll make maintaining such tank easier with filtration, possibly less algae etc. 🙂

For nuisance play's, take a rock or something that will block the light and place it directly over them for weeks. They'll slowly melt away and in my experience do not cause any toxin issues as they slowly disappear. I will say that at this time I definitely run carbon while doing this.

I know this sounds brutal, but can't u use some vinegar or boiled water to inject the palys with a needle? Like you get rid of aptasia? Or do they release there toxins then.
@DannysAquariums2 жыл бұрын
I think they will release their toxins using that method as well. What I do now is, I cut them off the rock while at the same time syphon the area to get rid of the toxins/tissue. In addition to that I also add some activated carbon to neutralize any toxins.
