My family and I have been listening to AnnenMayKantereit for years now. They actually are pretty well known here in germany for a long time and it makes me really happy that they finally get more recognition. You have it backwards. Hemming May from AnnenMayKantereit is the gentlemen with the deep bass voice, the other singer is Frederik Rabe from Giant Rooks. Part of both of each band is playing in the rooms while they sing.

NYC based Suzanne Vega is the original writer / performer. I first heard her perform Tom’s Diner Live in a Buffalo bar in the mid 1980s. It was released a few years after that on her second album. Then a band called DNA created the first cover / dance remix ( also had trumpet, I believe) ... followed by more ! There’s a whole album of Tom’s Diner covers, & I just saw another one randomly yesterday on Instagram. Now I can’t remember the page but I tagged Suzanne in a comment so she’d see it. Thought she’d get a kick out of it. If she responds, then I’ll be reminded of where I saw it haha !

The original was done by Suzanne Vega. This is 2 different German bands that came together to cover this song (Giant Rooks & Annenmaykantereit) The first setting is all the members of the Annenmaykantereit band, including Fred Rabe, lead singer of Giant Rooks (He is the first singer) When they enter the next room, they are now featuring all of the members of Giant Rooks, including Henning May, lead singer of Annenmaykantereit (Raspy voice) then all the members of Annenmaytkantereit join in this room, as well, to finsh up the song. Two amazing groups that should be checked out individually if it wasn't for this song I probably would have never known about either one of them and now I am totally in to Giant Rooks aaaaaand their coming to the US in December and I'm going!!

The guys in the first room are AnnenMayKantereit Chritsopher Annen, Hennig May, Severin Kantereit & Malte Huck + the Trumpeter Ferdinand Schwarz und then in the second room we have Giant Rooks with Frederik Rabe, Finn Schwieters, Finn Thomas, Johann Wischniowski & Luca Göttner. I love Annenmaykantereit. I've been listening to their original songs way before this cover went viral. They are amazing. Btw both Annenmaykantereit and Giant Rooks are bands :) Henning May from Annenmaykantereit is the one with the deep "Louis Armstrong" voice. So it's actually his bands channel who uploaded the cover. Their original songs and their other covers are def worth listening to. Giant rooks also have great songs and pretty good covers:)

In the first room AnnenMayKantereit is playing and Henning May (deep raspy voice) is their singer. And in the second room Giant Rooks are playing, Frederik Rabe is their singer. A little later AnnenMayKantereit join them. The guys of AnnenMayKantereit are the older ones.. AMK does mosty German songs, Henning can also sing without that rasp, his voice is amazing, but I like Frederiks voice even more. Giant Rooks do English songs, even though they are Germans as well. And I love the music of Giant Rooks. My favorite song of them is Nightingales Of The Walled City, wich was never released. Hannon May had to sing in the key that Fredrick from Giant Rook, and said it was difficult to sing in that key. You can not tell their was any issues in his performance. People are shocked when they hear that magnificent of how those 2 guys from two different band with different styles of singing. They sound great. Both bands are from Germany. The Giant Rook sings in both German and English. The Annen May K sing mostly German. They have several CD's of original music. Both bands were recording at the same studio in 2019. They mush have practice this collaboration to get it perfect. Which they did. Thanks to TicToc I was able to hear it for the first time. You can find both bands on KZbin, including Tom's Diner.

This is the transition from original 80s analog equalizer every sound pruduced manually to 90s effects and digital transition loopers and beat drums. Then 80s joining back in on the vibe the last part was pure vibing. I grew up in the 80s then went full blast DJ in the 90s man. I felt that transition and sticking to the roots. we lost it come 2k, 2k1,& just degraded in 2k2.

It’s ok to google something ahead of time-lol Original = Suzanne Vega circa 1987. Both bands are well established German acts. Captain gravely voice actually has a pretty impressive range beyond that style he was on some Euro talent/vocal TV show. The shorter vocalist is a pretty amazing front man having watched some of their live videos…big stage energy. It’s amazing this cover blew up a few years after they did it. It’s definitely better than the original to me. Amazing talented young folks. ✌️

I thought Henning May reminded me of Hewey Lewis..... and haven't heard much from him lately, or I haven't been watching. :) There's two bands, and I'm not sure how they are all interwined... AMK is three of them, and Three Rooks is Henny May and another, and I've seen him do a lot of solo. I've only started listening to them a few weeks ago and they are FUN to listen to... it's just crazy! FIRE! They're a German group and they're also really big in Russia and Turkey.

Pocahontas is an old classic and the Probersum Sessions are besutiful even though they started performing simply three friends on the streets of Cologne. Henning May's from AMK is the lead singer, the guy with the septacular voice. Had to sing in the same key as Fredrick from Giant Rooks. Room I was AnneMayKanteriet, the second room was Giant Rook. As the song progress the AMK group filered in, that's why the 2nd room became full of musians.
