I remember waking up one day, circa 2023, determined to solve the 3^5, I opened the software, so excited… I couldn’t figure out how to make a turn and gave up…

This is really impressive. The furthest I have gotten is understanding how 4D turns work. But I have never solved even a single piece on a 4D puzzle. I would kinda like to learn it and solve a 120-cell. But I don't think it's likely I will ever dedicate the required time to such a task.
@RowanFortier

understanding the moves is half the battle! 3x3x3x3 isn’t bad at all once you get how it turns. 120 cell will take a lot of time, not sure if I will do it either

Would like to see if a 5D Rubik's cube, atleast 2x2x2x2x2 version can be made physically. 3x3x3x3 4D Rubik's cube was made physically although tough to play, so a 2x2x2x2x2 5D Rubik's cube should be physically possible even if it's tough to play

Controlling puzzles in higher dimensions is tricky because 3D is actually a special case, and it tricked us into thinking about rotations a certain way. We commonly think about rotations as being around an axis, but choosing a single axis isn't sufficient for higher-dimensional space. (Think - If you want to rotate a 5D object 'around an axis,' pick one dimension as the axis. With that dimension fixed, there are still 4 dimensions left, so you have a whole hypercube as your range of motion! You haven't picked a unique rotation yet!) Instead, it's better to think about rotation as happening in a plane (think about the wheel instead of the axle.) Instead of turning a cube 'around the X axis,' frame it as 'turning the Z axis onto the Y axis,' or turning it "through the z-y plane". Because any pair of axes will uniquely define a plane, you now have a system that will work in any number of dimensions. So, in MC7D, it takes two clicks to make a turn; 'which axis' is going 'where?'

@@akeustlom Thanks for the reply. I'll have to put some practice one by trying to solve 1-step scrambles to get used to how it works.
@chri-k
@chri-k 4 ай бұрын
@@SilverWingedOneand keep in mind that this is true only because the rubik's cube puzzles rotate in a plane. In 4D and above it is possible for an object to rotate in multiple planes at the same time ( one more is added for every 2 dimensions ).
