It’s important to address the fact that CT scanning is able to determine the condition of the card like corner and edge wear, as well as provide a perfect image of the card’s centering. I am getting a little worried because I really do think this will threaten and hinder investing in sealed Pokemon. Sure, there are examples out there where it simply is not profitable to crack a box even if the top card is graded a 10 but majority of the time, these only apply to boxes that are incredibly rare and limited. At this point, these sealed boxes have become their own form of collectible. However, I think this doesn’t apply for modern boxes. It’s a fact that most modern boxes have a price that is relatively close what the box’s EV is upon opening it, which is based on the probability of the pull rates of certain hits as well as the actual value that these hits have. Coupled with the fact that many modern boxes have seen almost exponentially higher numbers in terms of print volume, these are two significant pressures that held increase sealed boxes prices. Ultimately, I guess it’s up to you to really determine if this threatens you’re ultimate goals when it comes to sealed investing. For me, I think i will continue to buy products that I enjoy, but am definitely a little weary of how this might change the TCG space forever.

You talk about the top card in the set but you can sell the box for €4000 after scanning and the top card not being in it. They can scan entire boxes and perhaps entire cases. And you can sell the other packs after taking the best card out of it.

It’s still a problem. No matter what there are now going to be boxes that are advertised as sealed and not searched. The whole risk of opening a box is the fact you a giving up your item being sealed and are gambling that a better card is inside. You open the box and the card isn’t in it. You lose the sealed box still because you gave a try. With scanning , you can check the box without ruining it’s sealed status and the card doesn’t end up being in it. You remain with a sealed box only you know the chase card isn’t in. And the next buying will buy it thinking that there is a chance when in fact their isn’t. When you know a chase card isn’t in it. It just destroys everything pokemon is known for.

You bring up an excellent argument. A lot of people myself included thought of the implications of CT scanning ruining investing in booster boxes, but forgot the true value of booster boxes is that it's a collectors item as a whole and not just the chase card inside.

You can sell the loose packs with less valuable hits for their market price. In some cases I’m sure you’d be able to double your money that way.

Therefore, a sealed booster box always retains its premium value and will in the future. Weighing packs has become an issue already. Unless you just want a sealed booster pack for your collection, in which case the contents don't matter, do not by loose packs.

In essence, is 'unscanned' then the same thing? The only guarantee you never have is that it hasn't been weighed or even scanned after all.

You make a good point for the mid range and modern. The scanners definitely do hurt pack collectors, blister collectors of high end stuff, like Skyridge, Aquapolis, Legendary Collection, EX Deoxys, Holon Phantoms, 1st Ed Base etc etc. In those sets where the chases can be 5 figures in a PSA 10, those DEFINITELY are gonna get scanned, particularly EX Deoxys, Holon Phantoms, Team Rocket Returns etc

Crazy to think FLASH FIRE is around the price of my TEAM UP booster box that I have.. I can see TEAM UP getting to the 4 or 5k as time goes on. I don't think it's going to stop at 3k. Just my thoughts :) good video dude! Made me think of a couple things I hadn't thought about when it comes to booster boxes and this whole CT thing.

I think this will affect it in a different way. If scanning becomes popular and accessible, I think booster box prices will shrink. Right now, they're more expensive than any individual chase, because you don't know what you might get. But if it becomes widespread to scan them, people will assume BBs are being sold with only minor hits (because you'd crack them for the big hits when you find them) and won't be willing to pay as high a price.

This is a good point about mid era Booster Boxes. The math doesn't math to CT scan those . I think the main issue I see is with vintage loose packs. Those seem cooked for opening at least in my opinion. What will vintage pack openers do!?!

Ive been spamming this on every video I come across. The only packs worth scanning are HEAVY Vintage loose packs because lets be honest, no one is sending a sealed vintage BB to these people, its 75$ to scan a single pack, BB's are TBD because they need multiple scans to get accurate data and it takes a lot more time to look through a BB, so scanning a BB through their website will probably be ultra expensive. Based on pull rates, the amount of money you would need to give to these people to find a modern chase, ~14 BB's, like a Moonbreon or Greninja would be astronomical, you would most likely be out way more money even after you sold the dud boxes to recoup your losses than if you just opened the product yourself to get the chase card. IMO this is all just fear mongering, there is no security if you send in ultra high ticket sealed products, and there is no profitability sending in modern products.

All you need is for some other company to roll around and offer this service at a much cheaper rate. Eventually, that will happen. And when prices drop and it becomes extremely affordable to do this, this is really a huge threat to sealed product. Not to mention that this is going to really hurt anyone trying to resell sealed product going forward. Idk, I feel sick even knowing that stuff exists, not to mention how i’m going to one day sell product that i’ve been sitting on.

Maybe if CT Scanning does take off then new tier prices would appear depending on the rarity of the (chase) cards inside. People can then own those vintage packs for cheap, knowing that they need not open them. Those with the actual chase cards inside will still be highly valuable.

There is a price / cost where it can become profitable even for ultra modern. It's really really low and I ran the numbers. The cost needs to be much less than 50 cents per pack - feel free to check my math. So vintage impacted? yes. Modern? - not for now!

I can see where you're getting from but you're counting on these boxes and cards keeping that same value in the future. Right now, what you're saying might be true, but who knows how valuable those products will be in the future, taking into a count these scanners and potentially other technological equipment? I think, for now, most modern is not going to be that influenced by these scanners, as it's pretty expensive rn to let your products scan, compared to the current price of that products or the cards inside. (Except maybe sets like Team Up or Evolving Skies?...) But I fear (hope not), like all technology, this method might get more mainstream and less expensive as time goes on. I think that'll definitely have an influence on the prices of those products and cards...

this is such an amateur and/or shallow analysis. you are assuming that the booster box prices are independent of ct scanning and/or other factors in the market. the reality is that booster box prices are sensitive to market factors, which will include technology that allows you to scan them. you cannot assume that booster box prices will stay the same.

Its not about opening the box. It will seperate sealed boxes from guarantee hits or no hits. You wont be able to trust that a seller hasn't scanned the box and found no hits. Good luck trying to sell a booster box in the future because no will trust you. People will only be able to trust buying from Pokemon directly. This will get cheaper and more available over time making effecting modern.

@@jason113388 it's not as expensive as you think. If you watch the video of the original guy doing the scans he bought a broken machine for 20k and spent 5k fixing it himself. Like you said the tech has been around for a while which means there a lot of machines out there. Won't be long before a larger scale business will pop up and offer a cheaper service.
