Gen 6 should be an interesting one, given it's labeled the hardest gen to get every mon in, as someone who did it without glitches, can for sure say I am never getting rid of my OR save, that took so long to get done and I even shiny hunted Ho-Oh on it and that by itself took me 10 years thanks to crappy rng....that Ho-Oh will stay with me forever with everything I went through for it.

actually gen 6 is considered the easiest gen to complete the nat dex in, since it needs the fewest games of any gen, the hardest gen is 3 since it requires every gen 3 game besides emerald and a gamecube or wii

Of course we have ways to make those events easier for people who missed them but it was also annoying thanks to the total dex being as high as it was. Gen 3 was only bad for Jirachi which people have found methods of obtaining...

you wouldn’t use tepig as your starter for a speedrun. current meta is switching your starter out for a lillipup. reason being that every pokemon has a unique drop animation whenever thrown in, the heavier, the longer. so, instead of using a heavy emboar, you opt for a light lillipup. although it’s a couple seconds saved, those couple of seconds snowball due to how many battles you have to do. lillipup also has some pretty good matchups against the gym leaders.

I want to learn Japanese someday because a lot of video games I love are from Japanese game devs, and localization tends to change a lot of stuff. I'd love to see if there's any significant differences in the Japanese versions of games like Yo-Kai Watch compared to the English localization. And I specifically mentioned Yo-Kai Watch because Yo-Kai Watch 3 is pretty well known in that regard for having the Japanese version have English text since the protag is literally moving to America. They didn't lean into the idea that it was Japan in the West, so it's more so like moving from Seattle to New York or something I'm assuming. I live in Washington State but have never left the West coast, so idk

7:04 flow and emotional expression - asking an AI or even another human to translate something for you just isn't as accurate at getting the message you want, which is the whole point of languages in the first place. being able to speak it yourself in real life is good for person-to-person interactions in other countries, or just with other people who don't speak your native language. learning a language also seems to change the way you approach problem-solving in some cases, due to the way the grammar is structured. you may start to think slightly differently, which could be useful. and finally, i want to learn japanese so i can write/sing lyrics in it. again, you could technically use ai, but it would suck and wouldn't rhyme or sound poetic at all.

I have been going through white 2 in challenge mode and catching every pokemon on each out and getting my stamp before moving on. Just finished Victory road and the elite 4 and starting on the post game cleanup for the rest of the dex. Hoping Leaf green, and all the gen 4 and 5 games will be enough to complete the national dex. I have a treeko mudkip and torchip already from hg/ss runs. Not if sure if I still need ruby or not

AI Translation wont be replacing learning a new language anytime soon, or ever for that matter. First up: Translating stuff is hard. Japanese, for example relies _heavily_ on context and has grammar completely different from english. This makes translating from one language to the other really hard. Machine translation is incredibly bad at this because you need to do a lot of filling in the gaps rewriting sentences in order to have them make sense in english. You cant just translate word by word and then move them around a bit to fit the grammar. Next up: theres some things you just... cant translate? For example, "Sie" in german is both a third-person female pronoun _and_ a generic pronoun to use when you want to be polite. You cant really translate that into english, you need to figure out on a sentence by sentence basis how to best represent the information that word is meant to convey instead of translating it literally, which a machine translator will probably never be able to do as good as humans. Machine translators can get you like 60% of the way. Theyre usually good enough to get the gist of what a sentence is saying, but theyll often just fail miserably or lose a ton of nuance, and because language is really really complicated and doesnt have any clear rules, I doubt that will ever change, or at least not anytime soon.

This would be way more interesting if you didn't glitch gen 4. It undermines the spirit of the challenge. You insist that it isn't cheating, but you made the rules. What is the fundamental difference between cheating pokemon into your party with an AR and glitching pokemon into your party with ACE? The end result is the same. Presumably you did this to cut down on the number of different games you needed to own and to heavily simpify routing. Simplifying the routing defeats the point of the challenge, and while I understand not wanting to buy more games, in the real world people can easily emulate these games with ROMs that cost nothing.

@@trailspokemon Speedruns aren't just about going fast. Communities place restrictions on categories to keep the challenge competitive and entertaining. If you need an example of ACE killing a speedrun community, look no further than OOT. Just because it can be done, that doesn't mean it should be done, the journey is more important than the destination. I don't see how that works against my argument. The fact that it is challenging gives it purpose. Generating shinies in PKHeX is not challenging. Generating pokemon using ACE is not challenging. Routing and executing a speedrun to obtain all pokemon as they were intended to be obtained is challenging.

@@georgejpg Anything is a challenge when you try to do it as fast as possible with minimal mistakes. Glitched speedruns don't intrinsically lack challenge from Glitchless speedruns, the challenges are just different. For Glitched runs going as fast as possible is the goal, and part of the challenge is the discovery and practical application of the glitches that are used. And for example, just because you can beat sm 64 with 0 stars doesn't mean it's not challenging. Sometimes it takes people longer to do DDD skip for the first time than it would take them to finish the game with 70 stars. The challenge is different. My challenge was to get the shiny charm from scratch as fast as I could. So that's what I did. That has its own challenges, and a glitchless version has its own separate challenges.

He wasn't really wrong though. One exploits internal code already baked into the game (ACE) while the other injects external code (gameshark). They can both be considered cheating, but it's just explaining the difference between the two and why one is considered valid for speedrunning while the other isn't.

The comparison was if it's a cheating device. It's something the game can do, and it's done all in game. A cheating device like an Action Replay is injecting it via outside means. That's what matters, that's what he was saying. He literally said that it's ok if you view it as less legitimate then just catching the Pokemon.
