I still haven't got the hang of American temperatures... "It's also like minus five degrees" That sounds all right "Fahrenheit" Oh! I don't know what that means, I'll check on Google... shit, -20, that's actually pretty cold "It feels like minus twenty" Damn, that sounds a lot colder than minus five... nope, -28, not really that different
@aguy42474 жыл бұрын
celsius and Fahrenheit end up meeting up in the negatives, around -40 is the same C and F. So the colder it gets the closer the numbers start getting to each other. -28C is -20F but 0C is 32F and +28C is 82F. The warmer it gets the further apart they are, the colder it gets the closer they are. (Side note, USA isn't the only place that uses Fahrenheit, it's just the biggest of the small list, and I was taught both celsius and Fahrenheit in my American public school)
@kelvinp.coleman5634 жыл бұрын
@@aguy4247 Once upon a time Fahrenheit was also the preferred measurement here in Britain, and my father (born 1948) always knew what the equation was to convert one to the other in his head. I don't know when exactly the shift from Fahrenheit to Celsius occured, but I (born 1987) only ever learnt the latter when I was growing up. Sometimes you can still find Fahrenheit used in the headlines of the tabloid newspapers when they're reporting about summer heatwaves, and sure, 101° looks more impressive than 38° when it's in a big font, but I'd think that anybody under about forty would probably do a double-take. Maybe you'll enjoy this sketch from one of our radio comedy shows: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGOaeZewbbt5gdE

Here's American temperatures in a nutshell: 100 is very hot, 50 is mildly cold, 0 is very cold. That's all the basics. The range between 100 and 0 degrees basically spans the normal amount of temperatures a person can survive comfortably in. Fahrenheit is more convenient for human senses, Celsius works better for science.

Your sister’s work looks great and it’s cool that she’s so committed to it. Kind of sad that someone who drops in with no knowledge of where they’re going for just a few days can get so much more attention than someone who’s living there and going in depth on the subject. Oh well.
@remarema63964 жыл бұрын
Friendly Local I think willem gets the attention he deserves. Especially for what he contributes to the photography community on KZbin and how good his work is. I would say it’s unfair to say someone who has a following shouldn’t take photos where they are not fully committed to. In a lot of ways that brings down the purpose of photography

The camera circuit itself seldom fails under extreme coldness, but the batteries. Try bring some extra batteries and warm them up in your pocket. Whenever one battery dies, you can substitute it with the warmed-up batteries, so that the shooting goes on in this circulation. That's the tip I got from traveling in freezing sites. :D

Amazing work Willem! Tip for shooting arctic shots from a northern Canadian: Instead of putting your camera in your bag to warm up, keep it in your coat. Your body heat will do a great job at retaining camera temp, plus a lot easier to grab out of than a bag. PS. Pre-ordered the Zine, it reminds me so much of home!
