Elves don't actually chop down trees. They have so much wooden gear because they use magic to convince the wood to grow in certain shapes (which is why all their stuff is called grown) and are appalled that other races are so savage as to hack them to pieces.
@KaBoom-i2l6 ай бұрын
And yet they eat their own. This is why we hate elves. (Cool tho I didn't know that)

can you use the magic tree growing/shaping in game?

@emorafael You can't as of yet. (I don't know if it will be added later or not.) But any wooden stuff you buy from Elven merchants will be grown wood instead of chopped wood so you can still get your hands on it.

I was following this tutorial trying to copy the layout and do the tasks as much as I could, and I was doing really really fine, managed to survive a whole year in my first fortress without having a army of dragons wrecking havoc or something dwarf fortress-ish. Instead, the gods of RNG looked at me and they saw how good I was managing to go through, and they decided to flood the river. It was early spring, the ice in the surface water had just melted and I decided it was a good moment to check the fishing zones. Imagine my face when I saw the screen turning blue, I panicked, it was just a small brook 4-5 tiles and now it was a whole small lake. That was where I learned how losing can be fun because I was laughing the whole time, I auto saved that moment as "GabeTheCooked", it was amazing

A couple things, finding dwarves dehydrated randomly usually in their beds means there is a vampire. And you won't get as many artifacts stolen if you put them behind metal bars. I like to showcase them in my taverns completely walled off with metal bars

Cave fungus spreading is pretty useful actually. Grazing animals can eat it, so by making a muddy room for fungus to grow somewhere inside your fort, you can keep your animals safely inside and near the farmers

Knocking down a few walls so that you have fewer, but more spacious bedrooms for the survivors sounds fun :D Also, you can engrave slabs in honor of the deceased, so that they don't haunt the fortress. Great video!

Stop trading the elves wooden bins, whatever you are trying to trade them just click everything in the bin not the wooden bin itself that’s why they won’t take them. I like to trade them rock goods just to avoid it. Also anything encrusted with bone or shell if memory serves they won’t take even if it’s a rock good. I like to trade drinks in rock pots Also if you engrave a slab and put it in your graveyard for the ghosts they will be put to rest
@CoolKidCroc Жыл бұрын
That makes perfect sense and after a quick google you’re completely right! I figured it would’ve been because the elves just don’t like us but makes perfect sense we can’t sell them wooden items. Thank you for the tips!
@chaotickreg7024 Жыл бұрын
I used to bring cats along because they reproduce infinitely without eating. But then once you decorate your entire civilization with cat bones, the elves don't want to buy your finished goods. You'd think they'd get the idea since they have to walk past my entry way of 20 cat-bone decorate chalk statues of images of dwarves.

I usually just slowly make my way down with only certain accommodation but keep the majority of my people closer to the surface because I make my worlds super monster infested and the caverns make me feel the fear I love, and more cautious. But it’s fun to lose, and have only ever made it to the circus once, and only met a few clowns.

Great fort, some tips that will help you in the long run: -Engrave tablets for ghosts so they don't stress out your dwarfs. -Make sure to cap off your magma forges with lave safe grates so people don't fall and lava monsters cant invade. (you can build a floor over the top and put grates where you want forges, I've seen some layouts pump the lava from somewhere else to make it more manageable.) -Vampires are tough to deal with due to lots of investigations, if your goal is to go big you can just turn them off, but if you want the added challenge gotta do more sloothin. (that was probably all the dead dehydrated people you found.) -I noticed when you raided the elves a lot of your unhappy pops left the fortress implying your military dwarfs were not liking their jobs. It can be a pain to micro at first but certain dwarfs hate being in the military and others love it so looking into certain traits or dwarf moods might be worth digging into when selecting units. You can cycle out the ones that are not happy and try other dwarf types. Your barracks setups were great though. -Definitely want to make sure you have enough hospitals that are staffed and supplied. I liked how you made a point to break up the housing so people could live closer to jobs and culture.

My suggestion for that early game is too use that meat from Muscles to make meals. They're worth way more than the ingredients especially if you bring a proficient chef in embark. You also actually don't want to sell ALL of your items during a trade. They actually measure by how much wealth you have at the end of the trade so keeping a bunch of high value items to keep your wealth high is a good idea.
