Is it possible to get villagers the way you did without the mod? Like if you make a copy world and go through portals to find the location you want, take note of the Nether coordinates. Then go there in your Nether only world and build a portal. Will they come through even though you can't see through the portal?

Piglins trade you bottles of water and you can put it in a cauldron and take it out with a bucket 😎
