Looks like the cheapest one was a low-effort VRoid model, so you’re technically right about it being repurposed. It’s a free program with standard models where you can slightly tweak the proportions, repaint the textures, and paint on hair. People can make some pretty good stuff from it.

I've worked with vroid before and being honest, the hair was 0 effort or either they don't know how to do proper hair and they used the preset school uniform model and just repainted the vest texture. That's all, at most 1h of work.

The 3rd one is obviously the highest quality by a landslide, like straight up better than some hololive members...but I really like the 2nd one. It's a super original look. He even went through the process of redoing the sketch-style lineart. I think it woulda looked better with clean lines, but it definitely shows an attention to making vtuber rigs interesting, not just a character.

The model is fine though but the rigging is just way too low effort for such an insane price. The range of movement and expression of mouth movement lacks expression in them

I just started learning Live2D after getting into model art commissions so I can’t comment that much on the price tag of rigging. However, with the art I would need to say that it’s quite standard for an unprofessional artist. With art in that style I would personally pay at most $200 for a half body and $100 for the rigging. It’s not worth the $800 as most artists who price it that high take into account the art’s worth in the market (e.g. is it a popular art style?), the time spent on drawing, and the amount of work put into developing their style (e.g. I’ve spend around 4 years doing digital art). Though I don’t mean any disrespect, this artist clearly needs more practice and research of art styles to live up to their price tag but either way uninformed people will still buy.

I think Yagoo (Hololive CEO) said it took $3k USD to produce the model, not sure if that includes stuff like rigging n whatnot though. Not to mention most of the girls also have multiple costumes and even 3D models

To be honest, you can get higher quality than this for $1k. But it's Fiverr and I assume he didn't look around super much or anything. But if you want agency or iron vertex tier models and rigging it will total you 2-3k usually. But I paid about 900 total , 200 of that being rigging and I had the model itself drawn by a Japanese artist who was very experienced and has worked on a lot of professional stuff. So it's really just about finding the right people and for that price you can get something a bit better than this. I cant link my model because I have my real name on this YT but yeah.

I found Connor through Emirichu (after about three years, just got Connor back in mid-December). Then I found Mori through Connor (subbed to Mori 20 days ago on January 10th, 2021). Then I wanted to see the actual video/podcast collab. So I just watched it... ... AND IT WASN'T IN THE VIDEO!!! i don't have a lot of time, college, work and stuff, but i'm done with all my work for a time and though i'd watch it, but the scene isn't even there. i have only a couple more episodes of my anime to watch, but i really wanted to see it. needless to say, i'm a little sad. ... (Yes, I have my I's in lower case. I saw a video from CDawgVA in which he was fixing voice acting in anime and he mentioned a dark skinned character was speaking in lowercase. I don't quite know what that means, but is this similar?) ... Note, I like to say this. I'm not the biggest fan in the world to my content creators, but I try to support them as much as I can. I watched the entire 11:35:00+ long stream to one million subs that Mori did. I woke up at 14:00, the stream started at 20:00 and I had work the next at 7:40. The stream ended and I had to walk out the door, with zero sleep, going to work (no, I did not fall asleep at work). Mori fixed my sleep patterns with that stream.

I use live 2d the software used to make that and if you can tell it was made in live 2d then it's not good model. It looked like it took them an hour to make. Still very cheap but you do get what you pay for
