When I worked at Gamestop, I watched one of my GA's throw away the case to Mario Kart 7 because she said that she was told that we did not need them. I pulled it out and un-gut (put the game back in the case) and told her that its important to keep when its traded in because the person that wants it likely wants the case and any materials inside it. Any time someone traded in a game with the case, artwork, and manual, I tried to save it.

I had a conversation with my local GameStop Manager and he was super honest with me and told me why it's so bad. GameStop was purchased by money grabbers during the GameStop craze a few years ago and they told most shops to stop caring about older games and only do the most current PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, and "SOME" PC. They aren't allowed to even purchase old games any longer. They're told not to. And then of course the used games are required to be sold for far too much. That manager looked me in the eyes and said "GameStop is dying and they aren't doing anything about it."

I've had some great luck at GameStop, I guess. I ordered Yakuza Kawami 2 for the PS4 for like, $9.99, and they sent me the complete in box, metal case collectors edition. Same thing happened when I got the PS2 Godfather game. Got the full collectors edition version with all the papers and everything.

They are actively hostile to the people who would most likely be their best customers. I ordered a “new” copy of persona 5 royal and they sent me a generic GameStop box of a certified used game, wth how is that even legal, and sometimes a new game will have the right case but it will have one of those super sticky circle stickers on the case that are impossible to completely remove. WHY use that kind it is the dumbest move of all time when you sell physical media and the people that still want that are usually more particular about the condition then most. They are dead to me for online shopping.

To their credit (and they don't deserve much) the discs being inside envelopes inside the case is so if it comes loose it doesn't get damaged. Even my local game store does this. Also, if the disc is stored in a case that it wasn't made for, the inner ring can be damaged. I have that on a ton of my 360 games because they were stored in dvd cases by none other than gamestop.. Like I said, they don't deserve any credit..

Went to a gamestop for the first time last month (I moved from a different country) the store cleck was really nice of asking me what I need. I told him I wanted a physical copy of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe since I couldn't find it on the shelves. He said sure and went in the back to grab something and grab a random pre-owned case scan the game and said it will be $60. For a pre-owned game with no case? Hell nah I walk out and bought the same game on Ebay brand new for $50. "OhHh bUt iSn'T iT mOrE cOnVeNiEnT tO hAvE iT rIgHt ThEre AnD dOn't hAvE tO WaIt fOr iT tO aRriVe?" In the Uk we have GAME which is the equivalent of GameStop and they are pretty decent with preowned games but we also have cex which is all preowned games and they are super consistent. Some games are beaten up but if you order they usually pick a good looking copy, they don’t sell loose games and they are well priced.

that's because the same games shipped out from online orders come from store shelves. game cases at gamestop are empty and the games are kept in a cabinet in the yellow envelop. sometimes new employees would grab just the case from the shelf and add it to a ship out order. Also gamestop managers would need to print out paper covers for certain retro games before shipping out. most would just find it easier to just ship out the physical yellow envelope the game is in and a blank case since theres a 0 chance retro games will be traded back. Still inexcusable tho I back in the day was guilty of shipping out some poorly worn down retro games

i will say that that i think that just like any other stores that quality varies via location. i don't go to gamestop as often as i used to (since i don't trade games anymore) but when i do go i never have any problems with anything i buy/order from them whether it be games or consoles. i don't know maybe gamestop Canada is very different from gamestop in America? another positive thing is that at the 2 locations near me they never try to get me to join anything and they ask me what games i've been playing or anime i've been watching, so that's nice too.

When i was about to buy Witcher 3 for 15$, the cashier guy convinced me to pay up more for the game of the year, so i get the dlc, etc etc. I bought it, took it home. And it was just a regular copy of the Witcher 3. Went back to the store to complain. But the new GameStop guy said it was me who was trying to scam them. @@FrogJuiceJustice When I do sell I like to do it more on eBay because I get paid faster than Mercari. For Mercari you have to wait until the person rates the item or wait 3 days after delivery to receive your money. It also depends on what and how you are selling. With videogames I usually ship in the bubble mailer with the game wrapped in bubble wrap as well. I have not had any problems with my games being damaged when shipped.

For all the crap Gamestop gets. Especially if you are employed at Gamestop. Its considered the worst retailer to work for. Even still its the one of the few retailers and gane stores with a great return policy for used games. You essentially got 7 days to try a game out. If it sucks or you beat it in 7 days. You can return the game and get your money back. Granted sone stores will try to convince you to get something else in the store or turn that money into credit to put on Gamestop card. They will still give you your money back. If you have been buying used games for over a decade. Then you should be used to used games coming without a manual in generic cases. Or just coming in a disc sleeve. You can request to have them give you the display case if it has the manual. 9 times out 10 they will just give you the display case. Since I,ve been buying videogames from videogame stores for over 20 yrs. Whether its Software Ect, EB games, and Gamestop. I know exactly how these businesses are run and know how to get more bang for buck when shopping from these businesses. Once Gamestop goes away that will be the end of games being on physical media.

I bought Doom Eternal last year in store, drive home which was a hour away, and no game in the case. Called them and they said to come back to get the game 🙄. I go back and the manager was extremely apologetic, she soon became one of the only reasons I even kept going back along with one other employee who was a top tier dude, but the main manager, branch? Idk the ranks I just know he was the hire up that was at like 5 different stores all the time, this dude accused me of lying about the game not being in the case just to get another copy. It was a $10 game. After an explosive back and forth he finally "caved" and gave me the disc. GameStop screwing those, me included, who pre-ordered the RE4 CE over really put me off on wanting to mess with the store anymore. I was told besides getting a refund I'd also get a $10 store credit. Well with that plus $20 in points to redeem I'd figure I'd go grab Jedi Survivor. That main manager refused to honor that $10 credit and because of some glitch in GS system all my points were unusable. Then I find out they fired the store manager and that other employee that was really good for god knows what reason. After all that I officially was done with the store. The employees that were left there now work elsewhere and from what they've told me that store and a few others that manager runs has trouble getting employees to stay and it's more of a ghost town than what you hear about online.

Gamestop has always been fantastic to me, I bought lots of now "rare" 3ds games for less than $10 and with b2g2 free when they were cheap, while this dude and many other youtubers where scoffing at them at the time, and only hopped on the 3ds when it was rare and popular, even now i ordered a bunch of ps4 games online in the 4 for $40 sale and 95% of them came complete. Pro tip, if a game you order comes messed up, just return it, but i guess that doesn't get as many clicks though.

Scratch on disc, called and they sent out another and it came with the full case and it worked just fine. Other than that I don't purchase things from GameStop often. Find it elsewhere cheaper!

biggest point is gamestop shouldnt be charging full value of something if its not complete in box.. like even if that pearl was real. at $75 it should be complete in a nice condition box.. without it, and being loose should only be allowed to charge like $50

Back around winter 2021 I think, I finally committed and wanted to try out the Atelier series with Ryza. Ryza 1 was already out of print, but there were still a few copies of Ryza 2 new copies available. I decided to grab one from GameStop before they were gone for good. What came in the mail was a box of Ryza that was in a loose fitting plastic sleeve, not shrink wrap, and was battered to hell. Infamous sticker on it, dents, tears, dirt. And remember, I bought this as NEW condition. Obviously, I was not ok with this and immedaitely took it to my nearest store to talk about it. The lady there said to me "it looks like you may have gotten a shelf copy." I asked, "shelf copy? Meaning, the DISPLAY?" She answered yes. I asked how they could possible sell that as NEW and she simply said that the disc is new and this happens when it might be the last available copy in a select store (whichever store was selected when it shipped). I did not accept this and asked to have another ACTUAL new copy sent to me. She obliged, but noted that another shelf copy might show up if the same case happens with whatever store is selected to ship again. Luckily for me, when the second copy showed up it was actually new and sealed. Fucking clowns
