Giggles! When I had a woodshop, and dust was impossible to keep out, we opened the north double doors, the south double doors and pulled out the two 4x4 foot shop fans and put it blowing IN on the south and blowing OUT on the northside. Along with my leaf blower, we just send it into the wind.... yes we were on 2 acres so no one cared.... back to nature!

This is so wonderful! I always loved yurts and to see you build such a magnificent version was the coolest thing ever. You are my hero! Every little girl should learn about you and your real world accomplishments. Your yurt is the prettiest thing. I was afraid adding the loft might hurt the prettier design elements, but it did not. I loved the use of furniture to provide the island, etc. 30 yrs ago I discovered how much cheaper old used furniture is than new furniture and have bought armoires and secretaries and tables and bookshelves... Incorporating these pieces into your homes and as others do into conversions is so marvelous--unique--and the quality usually is better than plywood. I love the personality and artistry. Thanks so much for sharing!

Love it! You can go back later and build fancy-curved planters between the yurt and deck, either side of the door. Planters for herbs or a planter one side, a little solar fountain/water feature on the other. At your "leisure."

Brook, you and Dave, sharing your lives, builds and wise commentary are a pleasure in my life. I have been interested in yurts and small cabins for a long time, since the late ‘60s. I used to be obsessed with drawing houses with logical flow and energy efficiency…long before it became a thing. I read the research done in Saskatchewan and Sweden on “Super Insulation”. I practiced drawing and went to an architect to learn. I read Malcom Wells and discussed drawing education with him in letters. Now, you and Dave have demonstrated courage, like Mr. Wells…actually, going for it. You guys touch my heart with your confidence, courage and willingness, actually sticking your necks out there for everyone to see and make comment. Maybe, your lights finding some experience, with the TV show, Alone, helped. I appreciate you…from an old vet, retired, in my small home, in the foothills of the Smokies.

Love this interior build. I watched the finished tour already. You are so talented. If I were sleeping in the loft, I would like to have the railing extened a few inches higher by making a shelf using short dowls or mini spindles and use it as a book shelf, travel clock, tissue box, etc. God bless you sweet 'girl in the woods'.❤

Yay! Habitat! I volunteer with them usually 2 days a week but sometimes upwards of 4. Good job with wrangling the heavy stuff alone. I feel for you. I once removed a 1000lb hydraulic car lift by myself from a pickup truck I borrowed from a colleague. I used an engine hoist, straps, and sawhorses to progressively remove it and lower it to the ground. It is an amazing feeling when you accomplish a task like that on your own.
