Just an idea to reach florist. When I owned my shop we ordered heavy from the wholesalers at the beginning of the week. Towards the end week, things would start to look a little sparse. We had local growers that would drive around with buckets of local grown flowers. They would bring unique things like hellebores, flowering quince, etc. We happily bought their buckets because they were beautiful and a fair price. Florist are always looking for something that will set their shop apart from the competition especially since grocery stores have killed a lot of florist.
@caracoates483411 ай бұрын
My personal favorite was the mistral Bordeaux, but as ex wedding florist I would have bought all of the last group of the pastel colors. I think that is your safest bet. When these guys are blooming, it will be the spring and spring color palettes for wedding tend to be soft.

We divide our anemone and ranunculus crops into 2 spring successions (may greenhouse and june outdoor blooming) and 1 fall/winter succession (Ontario, 6a). I also found that second year old UB elegance corms (non-sprouted from 2023) soaked and rooted really really well if you feel like saving them for 2025.

@Dave-hr7yl11 ай бұрын
Have you ever considered a pick your own. Customers comes to the farm to make there own bouquet? Please also make a staggered staging for the market to show off your bouquets. If you are vertically challenged you won’t be able to see the flowers. Use of the floor could increase the number of bouquets on display. Use of tissue paper inside the brown paper of your bouquets to make them look more elegant. You should aim to look more high end. Can you also put a sign on your farmers market stand saying ‘locally grown seasonal flowers’ Also thought you need a van so that you can store all of the made up flowers in the back the day before the market. Cut out the need for the cooler. Looks like lots of effort to load the pickup. Love the flowers! Keep up the hard work. I love watching the videos.

I do not grow a TON of flowers in my garden as they honestly intimidate me with all their special needs and planting guidelines, which is silly as I thrive as a veggie gardener and those plants ALSO have their own fussy guidelines at times. I do grow zinnias, poppies, cornflowers, petunias and alyssum and bought a TON more seed packets of flowers last year to force myself to play with flowers more this year. I also am using the lasagna method for some daffodils, tulips, and crocus (if the darn squirrels will stop digging them up to plant their acorns). I absolutely ADORE watching your flower hauls, though, as I dream to venture more into some of these varieties and I love seeing the excitement in you as you share your new babies to grow.

Hi Serena, thank you for your vids. As a pro myself, both as “Your Gardening Angel” a residential perennial/veg service, and “The Petal Pedaler” where I deliver hand tied bouquets to clients on my electric cargo bike, I try and not grow anything that’s going to cause me issues. Oy! there is already so! much to do anything that doesn’t give me a bang, as much as I may love it has to go. That being said, as per what you described, I might delete the hot pink, the red, the Giallo, and no offense, that Striatto just looks a bit of a mess to me unless it is actually less strident in person. Love that you’re experimenting and wish us all the most amazing season!!! All the best, Sabrina

If you do have to part with some I would part with the common daffodil colors, if you want some yellow or white in your bouquet reach for the Daffs you already have, same if you have those colors in tulips. Also, maybe you don't have to plant the entire bag? Or if you have a bunch of pots laying around maybe you could fill the pots with soil and grow ranuculous in them to either sell as a potted plant or to just move to vacant/dormant flower rows?

Yes, Bordauex Anemone is amazing! Last year I paired them with Daphne o, “Zuiko Nishiki” for Mother’s Day, (family & friends, I don’t sell). Noticed more comments, photos and sharing than usual. Also they lasted a long time. 😍

I really like all of the Mistral flowers. Especially the Boardeaux. I love the moody colors. I’d love to have a whole garden bed of them. I might need to order myself some for next year. However, I suspect the brights will be the best sellers at the stand. They’ll definitely be eye catching and turn heads. I’d fill up the greenhouse with the rainbow mix and plant the extra pastels in the field under row cover. If you have extra corms, you could probably sell six packs at your roadside stand.

I would pass on the Carmel Pastel mix, just based on my previous experience. I have purchased them before from reputable sources and have ended up with them being a mix of mostly scarlet blooms with the occasional white bloom with red streaks. The Mistral varieties never disappoint, and I have heard good things about Fullstars as well.

I think you should focus on what the florists want so you can get more streams of income. That's probably not much fun though, and I really like those orange ranunculus. I think I'm going to try to grow some orange geums this year to satisfy my craving for bright flowers in the spring/early summer.

Decisions, decisions. A keeper for sure is the Mistral bordeaux burgundy anenome that you grew in the field. Can't help but think the other Mistrals would also grow well outside? Soooo.... I'd make room for them outside, and newer varieties/trial ones in the tunnel....Festival mix ran. etc. Geez..could you plant some in your crates? or are those all spoken for already. I wouldn't keep a lot of the wedding colors. Just a couple to put your toe in that pond. If they've been asking for that ..then ok..but I just wouldn't stress about that if you don't have to. White/pk/maybe a bicolor to match?..and just a dash of those....then keep all the wonderful colors! I've not tried anenomes. I didn't realize you'd have success w/out a tunnel. Ranuncs. a fail for me outside in a covered low tunnel. Good Luck guys!!

Allow me! HA! The flowers with colored edges are called "picotee" ˌpi-kə-ˈtē : a flower (such as some carnations or tulips) having one basic color with a margin of another color. The "Sfumato" flowers are named that because of the painting "technique of allowing tones and colors to shade gradually into one another, producing softened outlines or hazy forms."

Ranunculus varieties to let go of in my opinion; red and (keep the red anemone), the yellow with orange tips,(redundant with pure yellow), all the pastels except for the pure salmon,( they don't strike me as wedding vibes), Anemone to let go of in my opinion; mistral tirgra anemone,(redundant with the red), Levante mix anemone, full star mix, full star red, mistral edge Bianco,( very similar to the white with light interior, mistral milka, Carmel pastel. I may have missed it but you may want to add a super pastel yellow in either ranunculus or anemone.
