Layout certainly better than Virgins 787. Flight looked pretty reasonable as did the food but what a bizarre situation with the change of aircraft. The constant change of direction in the lounge reminded me of IKEA with a bit more glitz, cigar lounge was very disappointing but not sure I'd fancy a cigar at breakfast time. Certainly room for improvement but a good experience, enjoyed watching your review.

Both avios redemptions, first class at 103,000 avios + £235.30 and business at 77,250 avios + £139.90 tax. Very happy these redemptions. Another point, redemptions with JAL intra Japan are very reasonable, you could do a short series from Sapporo down to Okinawa, comparing HND v NRT etc. Anyway, good luck and I hope you review JAL - especially their new BC/first product soon!

No changes in Oman Air, I see. Customer service is a hit or miss, and information when things go wrong is just not a priority. Crew do a great job at hiding in the galleys, and it is important to get the passengers to sleep as fast as possible. To change the aircraft after boarding shows how bad they are at planning. They are a ON/OFF airline, you can have the best flight ever on day, and the worst the next.

I recently discovered that I can get Qatar business class Heathrow to Muscat for 45k points, which is 20k less than the full hop over the sea to see my friend in India. Now I just need to convince her to pop over and meet me a third of the way in Oman, instead of me visiting her home country (again)! This will save me shelling out £260 on BA's subscription scheme for the 20k of Avios I will be short to go the extra leg to India. This will be a great result as I am both proudly cheap and am not in the mood to give BA anymore of my money after they dropped their xmas Exec club bombshell on us all! 😁 Matt, do you know what lounge Qatar makes available in Muscat? I can't find any info on that.

I thought three point seat belts were due to the angle of the seat rather than the distance to objects in front of you. So if you’re in club suites you have 3 point because you’re at such an angle to the forward direction that without it your head would be more likely to hit the sides of the seat.

I wouldn't fly Oman simply because it's a Boeing fleet. Since BA's change, all sorts of silly little flights I did to gain my 1500 TP will cease. I'll still use BA within Europe and Iberia if going west and Finnair if going east, but I shan't do random trips, just ones I really want to do. I'm the winner, cos I'll still have a lounge every time. I'll also be able to use non OW airlines if they're better value.

Definitely agree that you should spend more time in Oman. We were there last January. Had a week in Muscat then 10 days in the desert and on the coast with a self-drive 4x4 and camping gear. It absolutely bucketed down for the first few days and it was fun to watch the Omanis enjoying the novelty of rain like we would with snow. (And the rain caused the same chaos on the roads as an inch of snow does here.) It did clip our wings somewhat on the camping section though, as many of the wadis and (normally dry) river bed crossings were impassable. We flew via Doha with Qatar Airways, but the leg from Doha to Muscat was on an Oman Air aircraft. (Had Qatar Airways crew IIRC).

JAL have the same seat on many of their planes (along with their excellent soft product), though they've got their new seats on their new A350s, those new suites also look great though, and on par with ANA's the room, which I would argue beats the Qsuite as it avoids several of the main issues with that seat (such as how narrow it is). Would be interetsing to see you give JAL and ANA a go and see what you think, though they're far from the cheapest airlines out there, but if you have any virgin points left you can use those to book on ANA, and if you can find the availability ofc you can use avios on JAL

Great video Matt. I flew the Apex Suite on Gulf Air from LHR to Bahrain. It really is a great seat, just that there's a lack of storage and the IFE screen seems to be miles away. I got off a Q Suite flight from LHR to DOH a few hours ago (B777-300ER) and really enjoyed it as well. It's a close call between these two hard products, but the Q Suite gets my vote, because im nowhere near as tall as you so the foot well doesn't cause me much discomfort. I will agree though, that the Apex Suite is certainly up there with the best business class seats currently on the market. The 3 point belt on some seats has to do with the seat beat off axis instead forward or rear facing.

Emirates does have the polish, although some of the Emirates business cabin seats are quite retro - the 2-3-2 is still operating I believe?

Isn't it amazing that we get three-week old comments on this video that was published just an hour ago?

That's the third comment to this effect! i release videos to Patrons when I complete them, and they may comment straight away.... BA's changes pushed this release back a little.

And so he descended from the Cobus 3000 to deliver the message to the gathered crowds. “Be thou in the north or south, and from east to west, thine airport wilt have a WHSmith or Relay. For this shall please thine weary travellers in dear want of a Puzzler book or recently published sporting biography.” And so, the crowd dispersed in the knowledge that their departing visitors be entertained midst a 2 hour equipment change. Matt 7:87-9 That’s my favourite verse from the Gospel of St Matthew of Planet, in a letter to The Patreons. My business class seat in the handcart to hell has long been secured. Indeed, this comment probably gives me an upgrade voucher to first. Anyway. I didn’t spot either of these retailers in Djerba airport the other week. Praise be for the lack of overpriced Buxton water. Muscat airport looks fantastic, and congratulations on reaching any gate on time trying to find the exit out of that maze… I mean lounge.

I was going to comment in a video but the Saudi WH Smiths I passed by didn't have a single book or magazine on sale.... Which would make Mr W Smith turn in his grave I would suspect!

What KZbinrs don't actually tell you is they are promoting 1st class and business class in the hope that they get a bung from the airline. What joe public sees is exactly this, and prefers to spend that extra cash on a decent all-inclusive hotel that "said youtubers" dont even do in thier videos. This format meets the "Noel Phillips - he must be good so I'll do it too brigade" or Josh Cahill "I can beat Noel" or "Scott from Paisley" etc etc etc Honestly.....a seat on a plane is a few hours pain, a nice hotel with a weeks all inclusive is much, much better. I do get it though, your English and you love over analysing everything to the 9th degree., that Sherlock Holmes dna in you.

Unfortunately, you're wrong. I wouldn't accept a free flight from an airline and never have - although I notice Noel did accept one from Emirates recently.... My videos (usually) show options available to people at a very low cash cost as they can be bought using points... And if you want to spend a week in an all inclusive hotel, what's the point of travelling somewhere exotic as you'll get no idea of the place you visit if you stick to the hotel all day???

Have you been to Paisley? No one from there goes to the airport, they can barely make it to Arran!

4 fights on Oman air -Concur with your experience- slightly "stand offish" crew..... must disagree about them improving...I don't think they see that as a priority (dropping first class a good example) they are generally much cheaper than Emirates or Qatar - attracting the workers who value their hard earned cash over comfort on sa tour Manilla flight Time will tell.
@MattsPlanet13 күн бұрын
Time will indeed tell - I took dropping a First service to be a signal that they're focussing on what they need to do well rather than being all things to all people

It was all a bit strange! I probably could have walked quicker than it ended up taking, although I'm not sure there was a walkway on the motorway into the terminal!
