The stock seat actually bruised my posterior on my ride home from the dealership. That is definately a MUST do. Love what the Vortex did to this bike. Wrap around handguards and radiator protection definately worth the peace of mind. I did the AXP skid plate with linkage protection. That is one serious bash plate plus the fact it is plastic helps is slide over obstructions a bit easier than aluminum. Ive reached the limits as to how much money I am willing to spend on accessories. Aside from the weight, the stock exhaust is nice and quiet...... Im currently saving for another BMW touring machine like the R18 Transcontinental or maybe another RT. I love my current R1100RT but it is starting to age into the realm of antique. The 450L provides a nice change and is now my go to "going out for a quick ride". Then I get to add accessories to my new bike! Even BMW's benefit from the aftermarket world. 😁

Bought a '22 used with 560 miles on it (had Seat Concepts and alum skid plate already), I added a Vortex, full Yosh exhaust, tires, grips, Flo Pegs and that puts me around $11,500 after state sales tax. This thing is dialed, fast, smooth, just plan fun. Got to mention how amazing the traction control is for hill climbs! Once you go to the Motul 7100 on the oil changes, wow really noticeable improvement with very smooth shifting. Loving every minute of riding on this super capable bike.

I put a 2019 CRF450R Acerbis 3 gal. tank on my RL($180), just have to change the radiator shrouds to the 2019 CRF450R($30) and make a simple little bracket for the bottom shroud to radiator attachment hole. Much slimmer tank than the IMS, doesn't have the weird horns sticking out front either, and fuel pump bolts right in no problem. Just throwing it out there as an option, a lot of people don't know about it. Looking forward to your ECU video, keep up the hard work!

Wise words at the end. I have been really enjoying my first 2000km on my 22RL and it's bone stock. Never felt the need for an ecu but curious to see what it does to the bike!

If you don't feel the need for added power, get the rekluse clutch over the ecu. The jerky feeling and stalling issues everyone is buying an ecu to fix will be solved with the rekluse clutch. But if you want the added power, go for the ecu.

Really like you're channel, and you're last video about no regrets is spot on! Currently waiting on my Vortex as well, been 6 months now, hope it's worth it. My 22 quit running altogether and it's been at the dealership for 2 weeks now waiting for a new factory ECU under the recall. Which Polisport Frame Protectors did you use? Those look like they fit better than my Acerbis. Thanks, and really looking forward to the shootout video.

Thank you. I used the 22RL frame protectors they fit better than the Acerbis the swingarm protector is off the 450x You have to make a cut on the sprocket side to get it to work but they do the job. I would ditch that stock ECU and buy the AiM or GET ECU you will be shocked at the difference

Well said brother. I feel the same way. I feel the same on my street legal XR400. I have a supermoto set along with a dirt set. It checks both boxes for me. It is not as powerful as the 450 though. But it’s 80% rider 20% bike. I have passed many a crotch rocket on my little XR. Plus you can’t kill old XRs.

I have same bike with a per commander 5 and Warp9 super motorcycle wheels and race tires. I love it. It’s twitchy but I’m on the gas most the time and it’s fun as hell. For a dirt bike yeah you need all that shit for sure bro

Ecu is a must have . Put the GET ecu on mine and it runs awesome now . Before the ecu my 1984 yamaha maxim 400 ran better lol .

You DO NOT need to buy an ECU! After the motor breaks in, the throttle response is greatly improved. If you have stalling issues turn idle speed up to 1800 rpm. The seat and suspension break in as well. Agree with getting rad guards and hand guards. A seat is also nice. Use the stock tires to learn how the bike works, then put some rim locks on, as well as UHD tubes and your fav tires.

Theres really two schools of thought when it comes to how much youre spending. 1) you can get another cheaper bike and do all the mods for maybe what this bike costs stock. Perfectly acceptable way to look at it. 2) you are going to do all the same mods on a cheaper bike too and the mods themself are the same price, so you can start with the more expensive bike and be even better off in the long run. I still think i want the less maintenance, slightly more streetable, less powerful DRZ and instead of having to buy an ECU I could rebuild the whole engine into a 462 and still ride it 6k miles before having to even think about oil. On the other hand throwing a new ECU takes about 2 seconds. I want a trail bike that can also go on the street or a road track or dirt bike track. I dont want a full blown race dirt bike to put on the street or trails. Maybe once I get the DRZ and finish modding it (is that even a thing?) a 450RL would make a killer dedicated sumo.

I’ve done Yoshi exhaust, vortex ecu, baja designs headlight, seat concepts seat, moose racing skid plate, kuba lowering link, Barkbusters, doubletake mirrors, Yoshi fender eliminator, precision rear rack, zeta shift lever, and Upshift decal kit. I don’t want to know how much I have into this bike, but it’s a great dual sport bike.

The link dropped the rear an inch, I dropped the front about 1/4 inch in the triple clamps to offset that some. I can’t claim to be an expert at bike setup or feel, but to me there was no noticeable change. It’s still perfect off-road, and cruises at 75 on pavement with no loss in stability. Between the lowering link, and a seat concepts low seat, the seat height is now 35”. Being 5’09” on a good day, that seat height is much more manageable on rough terrain.

I don't agree with this. The first mods to be made I think if you're going to spend that kind of money are, the seat, the exhaust, the g2 throttle, the rekluse clutch, the large fuel tank. The rekluse clutch and g2 throttle will solve all the problems you are using the ecu to solve. The ecu will however, will give you more power. The exhause is important because you get a lot for it. Drop 8+ pounds of weight, looks and sounds better and gives more power. The stock seat is crazy uncomfortable and having a larger, clear fuel tank will not only allow you to go further, but also know how much fuel you have. Oh yea, tires... needs tires. It's like $3k at full retail.

Bought a brand new 2022 Honda crf450rl the same bike you have I have already put 4,000 of mods on! even have the suspension reworks $900 let me tell you this bike suspension even after rework is the stiffest suspension I've ever felt in my entire life it rides like a covered wagon in the dirt so don't ever ever ever never take it off road that's my only complaint about just a bike

My suspension has already been all taken apart and reworked not newsprings I think they revolved it it is as smooth as you can dial it in and still stiffer than 1850 covered wagon I'm going to have them tear that suspension all apart revolve respring different oil all the way down so smooth that you can get it so you can ride it in the dirt the same guy did my Honda 92 CR500 and that's suspension it's better than any bike I have ever ridden in my entire life I want this 2022 Honda crf450rl to be the same

It's a little unclear what you want to convey here, the Honda crf450l only needs an ecu, everything else is your personal construction according to your needs and also indulgences, check how much money the owners of the 701/690/500/501 invest, and that's even before the investment in the Austrian suspension, which is simply garbage, ready to shop, I had seven Honda450r and Honda RX450, for me this is the motorcycle with the best value for money

I really like these but the service intervals in the rebuild in a role get me. I think the rebuild interval on this is 20 or 25,000 miles. That and the electronics cannot take me away from it I love it it’s a better bike and it’s better technology but I’m probably just gonna buy an XR 650 L. Yeah it’s heavier but it’s simple and see you or that’ll go 100,000 miles out much other than valve adjustments and oil changes and I guess that this is better tech and a better bike but I just don’t think it’s worth the money for me plus XR 650 L is much more comfortable. I don’t know I like this in the seat concepts it will make it more comfortable but I still love the XR 650 L writing position and the seat on that’s fairly comfortable and it’s just simple and easy to work on and this is higher performance but not worth the three grand plus all the upgrades I’m going to need video. 20 years ago I would’ve thought that was stupid and had to have the latest and greatest but as good as this is I think they need to do better for that price point. Honestly I wish they’d come out with an XR 400 L. Simple air cooled thumpers are just so much easier and more reliable it’s a huge selling point and I’m willing to trade a little performance for it because I’m not motocross racing and I’m going to do it I just want a good multipurpose bike and I can do some trails and some dirt on. I get it though, it’s incredibly tempting but the maintenance intervals and the rebuild intervals and all the tech that’s going to start falling apart in a few years just isn’t worth it I wanna bike I can drive for 20 years and not have to worry about it and the CRF lineup isn’t that come on mouse gets in there and starts to and stuff up you’re talking thousands of dollars to replace crap on an XR 650 L you’re talking about a couple bucks worth of butt connectors to fix it. I don’t know I’m tempted but I don’t think it’s quite there yet

@@BornAGoon yeah you just Gotta make sure your oil is clean and not low and has good viscosity so it depends on how you ride if you’re going to go out and ride 3000 miles a month you’re going to have to change it every month or two if you’re riding 800 miles a year or you could probably go three or four years without an oil change no problem. Just make sure you have good oil in there change the filter every few thousand miles and that’s good keep your air filter sort of clean if you don’t run out of oil you’re probably gonna be good for tens of thousands of miles on those. And eventually you’ll need to do some valve adjustments but it’s pretty easy to do on those have got a little Cappy pop off loosen a couple of nuts check it with a feeler gauge it’s got little windows on the side that you can see a T on so you know when you’re at top dead center and the specs are all over the Internet but if it’s running good it’s probably not a big problem anyway and they’re usually not that far out unless you’ve got a lot of miles and where on the engine. You’re basically just readjusting for sloppy timing chain and if you keep it clean don’t let it sit with gas in it and keep it full of decent oil that’s gonna be your biggest repair is changing out the timing chain before it breaks and that can be 30 or 40,000 miles. If you go to adjust your valves and they’re way out of whack then you should consider doing it soon otherwise you’re good. Try and apply that to a CRF 450 L 😂😂 they want you to change the oil all the time and rebuild the entire motor after 20,000 miles. I don’t care how good the performance is I’m never gonna buy that because I just don’t want to deal with maintenance I want to bike I can ride. I want to ride motorcycles not fix them. lol. Call me lazy butt these are better built bikes they’re simple mirrors highest performance as the newer bikes but honestly I don’t care that thing is a ton of fun and more importantly it’s easy when you want to go riding it’s always gonna be ready and if you forget to do your maintenance for six months it doesn’t matter. 😂 I’m jealous, I want one. lol
