Wow, I just watched an hour long documentary of a man and his group's descent to madness. I am a big fan of online ARG's and puzzles and i've seen tons of documentaries on them, and i can safely say that this entire kuudra mandible hunt puzzle was one of the most brutal out there, mostly due to how vague it got towards the later parts of it, and how much you had to sacrifice to get to it. GG's to you and the entire team.

I’m really glad they acknowledged the fact that the second half of this hunt was so poorly designed. Even when you have the solution it’s still not entirely clear how you were supposed to reach it. The fact that dozens of hints had to be given makes it glaringly obvious that the information required to solve the mystery was not readily accessible to even the most hardcore of players and that the puzzle itself just was not designed well.

The hunt was really hard and brutal. But sometimes it was unfairly brutal, for example what item to click the block that got you kuudra relic. Divan drill had bp 10 which had no other use, but nothing hinted at drilling the block or something, and the bp 10 existed before nether. It was by far the most expensive part of doing the kuudra quest if you knew what you were doing, but they nerfed it to any drill. Anyway donating coins must have been so unfairly brutal. Especially figuring out what the total (blank) means. You had to use 3rd party tools/mods to figure that out (while allowed, kinda goes against hypixel's policy of not endorsing these). I could talk about other examples too but you get the point. At times the amount of information given was not enough and random testing had to be made, which when it's the only option, is kinda bad design. Though I have to applaud some hints like what the weird sailor talked about. The hints were very vague but they told what you needed, unlike many other parts of the hunt.

It's so incredibly impressive that you guys beat such an insane and poorly designed hunt. There were points in this video I was getting so frustrated on your behalf! You have some insane dedication for toughing it out all the way to the end and getting the mandible! Congrats to the whole team! Vaugue clues, huge amounts of RNG, instructions from the devs that were contradictory or misleading!!! A well designed riddle is challenging but does NOT have multiple possible, equally defensible, answers. Having to grind and collectively scour the map for elusive clues is expected in these sort of MMO games, but those equations are just indefensible. The fact that the devs had to resort to giving daily hints, and some of the admins even helping the team with answers on discord, speaks volumes to how well put together this hunt was. Some of these requirements, like forcing the players to wear a freaking CLOWN mask to get a "hang in there" cat photo on a soggy napkin... Mocking all your most invested and dedicated players... real classy move. That must have been so frustrating for people. This was not a brilliant and challenging hunt. This was a thrown-together goose chase, with clues that weren't so much "intellectually challenging" as they were technically true about as often as a broken clock. I can't imagine people had a lot of fun with this after the first few months, but I can imagine the relief at finally beating it after a year.
@testerwulf3357 Жыл бұрын
Yes!! I was baffled throughout the video, my frustration and shock growing at the crazy shit the admins threw together as a "hunt" or "puzzles"..no hunt should EVER be nearly impossible without hints, that's just a bad hunt. It really was just a wild goose chase, and the "hang in there" cat was the shit icing on the moldy cake..it wasn't for anything just a mockery (and later got in the way of the hunt as people attempted to use it in some way to solve VAGUE MATH). It felt like the hunt was at first a joke, the item didn't exist, but as more got invested they got scared of saying "lol trolled, there is no item" they added more things to it and eventually the item..at one point they did say the mandibles didn't exist! It's obvious they plan the entire hunt from the beginning, just went along adding more slowly, and if it was planned from the beginning it really doesn't look like it for how horrible it was. The only good thing most doing the hunt liked was the friends they met along the way, they never really enjoyed the hunt (as it was so frustrating, grinding, and like throwing eggs at a wall hoping they stick) they just enjoyed the community aspect and all the cool people they met.

So I was probably one of the few people who loved fishing enough to where I tried to participate in the hunt specifically so I can help unlock the mandible. I reached 5 mil magma cream, 3 mil netherrack and got the other two pieces and the wet napkin when the helmet was found. I tried to help but was constantly met with hate towards my ideas and it felt like I was not wanted. Then to top it off, I heard that the follower artifact was found and the hunt was over. Despite everything, for 4 months the mandible was just not in the game and the hunt was pointless for me as I just wanted the mandible. Then add the change to all of the tasks making it easier and my friend just free riding all of the pieces before me and that just left a REALLY sour taste in my mouth that I just stopped playing after...

I'm at minute 44 of the video so far and I must say it's incredibly well edited and surprisingly fun all the way throughout, great pacing and storytelling ! Although I must say from an outside perspective this event seems a bit bullshit hahah, lots of unfairness going on and a few things that are impossible to figure out besides brute forcing it (such as elbuod having to be 4 different values constantly taken onto account, only being confirmed it was -2 through an admin saying so in a discord server) The scavenger hunt events seem incredibly fun if well executed, so I hope developers keep adding them to unite a dedicated community. I hope that with time oversights that were eventually added later (Type of volcano eruption or adding extra dialogues to the weird sailor whenever you met a requirement) are fixed for future projects :) I also hope that if they make new scavenger hunts with different steps (Like the 5 npc's here signifying the steps) they make it so each step takes a similar amount of time, to give a better sense of progression and not destroy motivation due to feeling stuck. Anyways, my opinion might be very skewed giving that I wasn't a hunter during the event, but what I do know is that it's genuinely so neat that Hypixel is still updating Skyblock and adding events that keep people intrigued, the creative minds of hypixel have been going at it for 10 years now and they are still going strong, even developing Hytale ! Props to them.

I will say, the hunt was impressive, but the event itself seems mismanaged with stupidly obscure answers, some straight up untruths, and the only way it was finished being a ton of discord “hints”. Im proud of all of you for getting through it! I hope they can host a more clear hunt of some sort in the future.

This is probably, if not 100% my favourite skyblock video. At the end, I got some weird kind of feeling in my stomach (you know when you finish a really good series? yeah). Absolutely banger video and one of the best videos ive watched in awhile

I love stuff like this, it’s something I always love seeing in always online games. It’s an advantage they have over singleplayer games, community secrets. If Hypixel Skyblock was a singleplayer game they’d never be able to do something this mysterious and hard, people would know all the requirements by the next day thanks to dataminers.

This video was one of the longest videos I've ever watched without taking a break, skiping 10 seconds etc. One of the perfect Skyblock videos I've ever watched. Keep up the great work, you just earned a sub. It isn't much, but it's the least I can do

I dont care about any of this and yet sat completely enthralled for an hour. Insane find, but honestly with events like this the “puzzles” HAVE to have hints since they are created by illogical conclusions within developers minds which is not really fair.

1. Missed you pig, glad ur back 2. thanks for taking us on a roller coaster of emotions, this was.... a tiring and brain hurting process of just WATCHING. 3. if you need a good break, its understandable, I cannot imagine how much effort and energy was poured out for this. 4. Finally, I wanna say how much of an inspiration this was, truly. Great determination can lead to great success. Thank you for everything over the years and this. today. Minecraft has many insane "pigs" but its always the pigs that would probably be beasts in real life at any field they pursue haha..... alr ill stop talking now ty for stopping by and bringing us on this journey
