Nadia Blasutti LMFAO HER OPENNESS 😂😂😂😂 you realize she says in the plop and Laura videos she wants to “debunk” why STC & the others I mentioned should be “dropped” but to debunk something you have to test and prove. You don’t just “debunk” by saying “this is what I know and I don’t have to prove anything I can use say “take my word” cause I have been certified by deva curl 😂 lmfao TOO FUNNY! If everyone walked around with stylers in their baglike HAIR DRESSERS (ninja) to restyle and wet their hair ALL DAY ON AND OFF then I’m sure she would still have an issue. Lol. She’s got nice hair with lots of frizz but it’s nice ...her attitude sucks and she attacks every one who does anything different from her. She tests NOTHING or even once on her hair on video so it’s just “take my word cause I’m right”

What you described, is the hassle that I go through every wash day!! I’ve never been able to understand why it happened....so frustrating! My hair is natural high porosity with medium and some coarse hairs. So wet styling like most people say to do, just made me have a few big barrel clumped curls. This video was like, “Yes! I’m not crazy!” Thank you so much! Very helpful!

I have learned so much about my natural high porosity from your demos! I’ve been able to achieve voluminous, no scalp showing curls with the kicker being that I haven’t had to refresh for THREE DAYS! I think the most significant tip I have taken is that I can manipulate my hair when it’s wet. We are constantly told not to touch our curly, wet hair. My hair will grab curls from all of my head if if I don’t continuously keep it in its place while drying. Your tips have been so life changing and I hope you know how many people you are affecting. ❤️

I’m so glad to hear you say that about the shampoo. I struggle with needing more than a low-Poo. Your videos are spot on Stephanie. Your research and intelligent but caring approach to this subject are exactly what the industry needs. I still struggle with slip.. if I don’t condition I can’t get even my fingers through my hair. A lightweight yet still having slip is what my coarse DHP hair needs. I think the tangles come from the open rough cuticles catching on each other as the hairs cross each other. Makes even finger defanging hard.
@StephanieMero5 жыл бұрын

This is really good thinking! I find the Giovanni Weightless leave in is (cheap) and has good slip even when using a small amount.

I have a similar experience when finger detangling my hair. I have found using a smallish/moderate amount of conditioner, followed by running my hair under the shower quickly to totally saturate with water, helps SO SO much to make detangling easier. The addition of extra water (as opposed to conditioner alone on top of wet hair) helps to distribute the conditioner through my strands and provides extra slip so that I can more easily get my fingers through my hair. Plus, then I'm not using half a bottle of expensive conditioner every time I need to detangle :)

Yay!! This is my porosity and it’s been so hard styling it the longer it gets. I feel like short haircuts are the way to go with this texture so the hair isn’t weighed down. And I think you are on to something about the acidic shampoos because the only time my hair looks it’s best is after a clarifying treatment with a sulfate shampoo. P.S. One thing that has really helped me keep volume with this texture is refreshing with a steamer. The steam brings the curl back by adding a minimal amount of water. If I add water or product with my hands or a spray bottle, it tends to look dirty (over producty) and weighed down.

Carla Castaneda This is my hair, too! I have a bob right now and I can use a gel bc I kind of want fat more barrel like curls, but when my hair is long, I don't use gel at all--just a light cream, or my hair gets so weighed down. And yes to steam! Even if it's just from my husband's shower!

Your client’s hair sounds similar to mine not damaged high porosity. My hair is straighter at the top almost like finger waves. Then starts curling around my ears. It holds onto water & takes hours to dry. It is very frustrating. The deva low poo & the bumble & bumble curl shampoo you suggested don’t work for my hair. I hope you look into more brands until you can make your own shampoo. Most products & cleansers have -ate in the first 5 ingredients even salon brands. Courtney May in one of the porosity videos Stephanie explained how hair weighed with water stretches, I only have high porosity in my ends, but my roots didn't start to curl until I took the advice and started squeezing and towel drying as much as I can and separating sections (I don't have layers), the difference was huge even first time, but each washday my roots get more similar to the rest! Would you say that a vinegar rinse (store bought or home made, within a reasonable ph of course) or a conditioner with low ph (I believe EvolveH has one) could be a nice alternative or supplementation to such a shampoo? I have porous ends and I really like what the ACV rinse does to it, much less tangly, very shiny and less swollen. Funnily enough, for me it seems very stiff and yucky for like 2 minutes after, first time I tried it I was terrified. Ive also read that using oils before washing prevents too much water expansion on high porosity and to my amateur eyes it seems to be plausible. Two more questions (I hope I'm not bugging you too much): I've noticed that you like to air dry low porosity hair, but intuitively I thought that a little blowdryer heat could be nice to open the cuticle and let products inside? Or is it different than warm water or steam? Could you please do video (or maybe series of videos) about ingredients you like and dislike for different porosities in the future? DevaCurl is not internationally available and there are always people who might be allergic to one of the ingredients, even to fragrance. It would be helpful to know what to look for and avoid.
@StephanieMero5 жыл бұрын
My rule for medium and low porosity is no words ending in “ate” in the first 5 ingredients. Heat for absorption on LP hair is useful when applying product but not when drying. I am working on better understanding ingredients and pH so I can do the video you’re asking for.

@@StephanieMero thank you for your approach, I'd rather wait for you to do proper research, than act like most influencers and spread misinformation with absolute confidence. Ditto this. My hair used to be straight and normal/medium porosity. Then I stopped coloring 2.5 years ago, got a pixie, and have now grown it out past my shoulders. Lo and behold, I have silver/pewter curls! Just 2b-c, but it's a significant change from the 45 previous years of my life. However, I get maybe a couple of hours of good hair on wash day before it fluffs up and my curls fall out. My hair has always been "sensitive" and would break and split easily when it got longer and I've always taken care to baby it as much as possible. Now, I haven't had a cut in 2 years and have hardly any split ends or signs of breakage. Before, it'd be getting limp and greasy by the end of day 2, now I can go 3-4 days before it feels greasy (but it still looks fluffy). Any advice you can provide on changing porosity/texture or how gray hair may affect this would be helpful! In the meantime, I'm going to try the Deva light products and see if I can get this fluff under control!

I have similar issues, I saw a video that uses a diffuser to dry the roots (not touching or scrunching the hair at all, just aiming the diffuser on warm toward the roots). I start out up side down, then move side to side, tilt head back, and diffuse roots until dry and the rest of the hair has a cast. Without my hair actually going into the diffuser though. It's helped a ton with what you're talking about. Idk if that makes sense at all.

Learning more and more from every video you produce. I realized after your last vid that maybe I’m fine, but super dense high porosity from years of faking big beach waves with my curling iron (when legit real waves / budding curls were underneath). Hair is taking forever to dry, sticking to the head like you describe here, but stringy AF and feeling very moisturized. Just bought a mega sized no poo and one condition after what I thought was a good first run with the regular sized bottles but experiencing the challenges I mentioned. Haven’t opened them yet and have the receipt and now pondering a little silicone like in the B.B. product you mention here! Maybe I need a touch of cone to shutter the open shaft a touch. On another note, do you have any clump increase / reducing the stringy advice? I’m thinking your foam recommendation might be key for my next styler purchase. Working my way through wave maker right now. Light bulbs every day with these videos I tell ya! And can’t wait for those graphics. I am sooo loving all of the content and truly appreciate how much you are trying to help educate us on what might work best for our given hair type!! I am hoping you might have some sort of insight for me because I have done several float tests on my really fine hair - ranging from strands just washed with shampoo, shampoo & conditioner (float on top, float in the middle if I push them under but will be back at the top after several hours), and on strands that were chelated no conditioner and then with conditioner (float in the middle) and my results all point to either low or medium porosity but when you describe the hair in this video, mine tangles super easy, dries very quickly, clumps and gets stuck to other hair which disrupts my curl pattern on my top layers and the front. I am so confused and honestly feel like I am not getting any closer to figuring out what works best for me. Any thoughts or wisdom to impart? Is there something other than porosity at play with my tangling, clumping, curl pattern disruption? Thank you for considering 😊

My hair does this. I thought I had straight hair all my life except for some wave at the nape of my neck. One humid day (not normal for Melbourne, Australia) the baby hairs all curled up and I was confused. But recently tried scrunching/cupping my hair and was amazed to find that the 3A ringlets I had a little girl were still there. I have fine hair and Im still trying to figure it all out, Ive got some bleach damage and I can only seem to get 2c with random curls becoming 3a (not even the same ones each time! 😂) my roots are flaaaaaat... depending on how I dry them. I have no idea what to do except experimenting and getting as much from your vids as possible. Do you have any suggestions on how to position the hair, cup to encourage the curl, and then dry upsidedown to prevent that? Im still making a lot of mistakes. Thank you.

You are right about one part of this comment: that the styling products aren’t strong enough to style low porosity hair. I totally agree and that’s why I recommend the bumble and bumble anti humidity gel oil as a styler for LP until the Deva shampoo and conditioner I prescribed the client makes their hair return to a normal porosity that absorbs water the way it is naturally supposed to and then they can use the Deva stylers. Most of my clients are black or mixed. They have incredible results over time with my recommended regimen. Changing your porosity doesn’t happen overnight.
