@@nikitaedell way more leaps is kinda the main thing. More complex in general but the leaping is why people don't play this version, past a certain point it becomes near impossible to play pieces like the 1838 Paganini etudes without wrong notes. Definitely a recordable piece, but you'd have to be insane to want to perform it live, especially since La Campanella generally isn't really well liked on the modern day to begin with.

I keep coming back here for a few days now and for me, I think I prefer this 1838 version more. I have been dreaming to become a professional pianist but piano doesn't like me even a bit. Lol I would definitely take several years just to reach this day 1 practice level of this piece. You're incredible. I would to see you play live soon. I will start practicing again. Can’t wait to hear more of this! Main reason why I prefer this version over the S141 version is because of the part with Paganini’s 1st concerto 3rd movement.

Violinist here. La Campanella actually is the 3rd movement of Paganini's lesser-known 2nd violin concerto. Paganini's 1st violin concerto is played most often out of all six that he composed. However, an arrangement of the 3rd movement of Paganini's 2nd violin concerfo, La Campanella was made by the Viennese violinist/composer Fritz Kreisler for violin and piano, which is now a popular virtuoso piece. But to be honest, I prefer the original 3rd movement played with orchestra without any changes to the solo violin part (Kreisler decided to take out the hardest section of the movement to shorten it). I also prefer the original to Liszt's version for piano, but obviously, as a violinist, I am very biased :)

Unusual would be the 3 other La Campanella arrangements Liszt made, S.420 and S.700i/ii respectively. Liszt experimented a tonne in these works, producing both amazing and mediocre passages, if you have some time, you should listen to the bunch.
