Depersonalization/derealization
@NyanCatHerder2 жыл бұрын
@@avoidlucasy Depersonalization and derealization are more linked to dissociative issues. I think this sounds more like an identity problem, which can be its own (relatively minor) thing *or* a symptom of another more serious issue (particularly some personality disorders; it's only part of the diagnostic criteria for BPD, but it's not uncommon for people with one condition to meet some of the criteria for others, and the idea that Bret might be Histrionic is...unsurprising).
@Pimebv2 жыл бұрын
Also its a normal part of forming a personality so if you are 13/14, it's okay. If it doesn't go away tho, thats a personality disorder

@@NyanCatHerder could be PBD because it’s common for those with BPD to have conflicts with their own identity & experience depersonalization
@NyanCatHerder2 жыл бұрын
@@ftwjoseph7660 So, I kind of dismissed out of hand the possibility of Bret having BPD because he doesn't seem "coded" as having that particular illness. That said, I had a friend (who I convinced to watch the show) compare me to Bret, and...yeah, you can probably see where this is going. I know the diagnostic criteria for BPD because I had a psychologist read them to me to help accept the reality of my condition. "Quiet" Borderline Personality Disorder is very much a thing and, while it isn't nearly as obvious as the classic presentation of the condition, it can be extremely painful. As in, "I regularly fantasize about killing myself" painful. So, it's entirely valid to read his character in that way. I can personally relate to quite a bit of it. Every relationship I have with another person is defined by an "Almost physical need to be liked". A little dark for the comments on a comedy clip, I know. But, hey. It's worth pointing out, because BPD is a condition with a double digit fatality rate, and it's important for people to understand that "Girl, Interrupted" isn't the full picture. I have an MA in political science, most people seem to like me (although I have no idea why), and I work a full-time job. If I hadn't received treatment after the crisis that led to my diagnosis, I would most likely not be replying to your comment right now.
