Very reasonable price considering the location and time of year. As a lover of salmon, that which you had looked excellent and clearly was, as you mentioned. The trip out onto the frozen lake was pretty incredible and great joy seeing Thumps having the time of his life. And, of course, equally great, that he and Gaby were, at last, able to be there with you.

I love how the snow sparkled. Is that why snowy landscapes seem magical? So lovely🥰
@LumiSisuSusiАй бұрын
Yeah, snow is literally crystallised ice, so it does have a wonderful, and magical, sparkle to it ✨.
@DewkeeperАй бұрын
As long as the weather stays cold enough so that the snowflakes never melt even momentarily, snow always has a beautiful sparkle. Sometimes even when it's just below freezing the sunlight might be enough to melt the top layer a bit and it can make that effect disappear.

Oh Rovaniemi for sure is very crowded during peak tourist time. Looks quite empty in this video though.
@FuxserАй бұрын
If u want no people go in the summer. It goes from 1 international flight pr day (not even every day) in the summer to over 40 during peak season in the winter. Thousands of tourists there now and the little town is ram-packed
@jackitupbiatchАй бұрын
@@Fuxser people arent looking at a video of Rovaniemi in the Winter thinking ''yeah I want to go in the summer when it doesnt look like that at all'' Rovaniemi is not packed, the tourist spots like Santas village, husky farms near center are packed but Lapland is literally wilderness once you leave town so there is space.
@minnaaa8393Ай бұрын
Not crowded? Wait, what? I live in Rovaniemi and around Christmas definitely avoid the city center. Crowded for sure! I'm happy you stayed at a hotel instead of choosing an illegal airbnb.
@jackitupbiatchАй бұрын
@@minnaaa8393 ofc the city center is crowded, I meant that Rovaniemi and Lapland has so much wilderness and things to do its not like you have to or end up spending your time in the citycenter. Also there isn't much to do haha. Ps. Airbnbs aren't illegal, the fact that there is so many is bad.

This was nice view of a point from tourist. I have lived in Rovaniemi 14 years ago and never had a change to go back there (working on it). So it was nice to watch this. I have been accually working in Nili as a dishwasher and can really recommend the food experience even for finnish people ❤ This is how every tourist should enjoy Lapland, without the rush! I have been working in place, where british just run the whole experience in 12 hours and go back to home and I never understood, how on earth that is something what people are willingly paying for. I heard that rush also in that guides voice, when he was explaining how to make fire. And it reminded me, how something this everyday thing can really be excotic for tourists, love it! Even the wooden butterknife really can be fun novelty for someone, but yes, we are accually using those in our homes also 😅

I noticed the wooden butter knife as well and your regional wording is absolutely charming! A REAL local to give us perspective!

I’m glad you liked the reindeer meat. I’m Swedish, and I don’t understand the hesitation about eating reindeer. They live their lives outdoors, often roaming vast areas semi-wild before being gathered periodically for sorting or slaughter. They generally have far better lives than industrially farmed animals, which are kept in confined spaces and slaughtered in stressful conditions. Reindeer meat is also environmentally sustainable, as they graze on natural vegetation and have a low ecological footprint. Additionally, buying reindeer meat often supports Sami livelihoods and helps preserve their traditional way of life. Please eat your reindeer with pride!

Absolutely. I haven't eaten meat in years but I have no problem with game, reindeer included (it's just that I live in Helsinki and rarely come across it). It's so tasty and much more ethical and environmentally friendly than industrial cattle.

The same people who complain about eating reindeer have no problem eating at McDonald's and other places like that, not to mention that they buy industrially produced meat from the supermarket. These people are so hypocritical.

21:15 Bread cheese , sometimes known in the United States as Finnish squeaky cheese, is a Finnish fresh cheese traditionally made from cow's colostrum. In America, cow's milk is generally used but can also be made with goat milk. Commercially available versions are typically made from cow's milk. The cheese originally comes from Southern Ostrobothnia, Northern Finland, and Kainuu.

Hi! As a finn it was nice to see your wideo and reacts. Glad you liked your visit. I want to comment about food. That reindeer dish is the most common way to eat reindeer here. That bread you had is very common in all Finland, we eat rye bread all the time 😊 At the breakfast buffet you can usually just go and find yourself a table. Sometimes there are someone to ask your roomnumber. At the buffees you find plates, forks, knifes etc at the beginning of the buffet table. I noticed you wondered couple of foods. One was that pancake looking one. It was probably just a pancake to eat with something sweet, or a blini to eat with salty toppers. Usually there reads what all the foods are. That white stuff at the dessert table you asked what is this, is actually local cheese. Its nice and mild and could be eaten as it is, or warm with cloudberryjam. I hope you tasted it, its good local speciality. Sad that you didn't see the northern lights. Maybe next time 😊

I'm Finnish and interested in your video above all because I got to see a bit of the building and its interiors! The functionalist style building is the former City Hall of Rovaniemi (designed by the architect Ferdinand Salokangas) and is protected because of its architectural value. There are also historical elements in the interiors, f.e. part of the lighting is designed by Paavo Tynell.

One thing I'm noticing in these videos is the production value. There is music, when it's needed, and the editing; with the added holiday screen wipes is spot on. You should consider a side gig or channel of "How to post to youtube" but this might be revealing your magic too much like Copperfield revealing how he made a 747 dissapear. Bing watching over the holidays and this stuff is SO easy to watch.
