I stayed at The Grand Hotel Scarborough owned by Britannia Hotels which has futured on the BBC news as the England's worst hotel.
The TripAdvisor reviews are awful but I decided to go and spend a night there to find out how bad it was first hand.

we have a hotel like this near me its a travel lodge so yea its pretty bad inside, the rooms have odd layouts, thin walls, bad smells every where, faulty lights, creeky floor bords and every thing its so bad yet from the outside it looks like some fancy luxury building you walk in and see a nice looking reception area a massive stair way going up, a nice little bar and seating area, it looks so nice yet then you go up the stairs and its like a horror movie is about to take place, it was owned by another company for a number of years and was a very nice hotel for wealthy people but then obviously the town went to shit, the local council sold a bunch of land to make affordable housing and so on thus the more poorer less wealthy class of people started to be moved there and along with the increase of the poor poping up the crime rate and drug usage also went up witch lead to the wealthy people no longer wanted to live there, as the wealthy moved away the shops started to suffer as the poor obviously couldn't afford to use them thus places shut down and this beautiful luxury hotel ended up selling the building to the Travelodge who decided to turn it in to an affordable hotel for the lower class and well yea that meant there wasn't really enough money to keep it properly maintained and again as it was now mainly lower class people who went there things like theft, abuse to members of staff and other guests and damages to the rooms and so on went up making it an even worse place to stay i guess something simular happend here this was probably once a beautiful luxury hotel privately owned but due to changes in the location ie lower class people being migrated there more or loss of tourism interests for what ever reason they just weren't able to keep up with the high standerds as the money wasnt coming in so they either just made alot of cuts budget wise and switched to catering for the lower class or they straight up sold to someone else who took over with the intentions of making it affordable to the lower class in witch obviously the high standerds that it once held couldnt be matched due to the massive difference in revenue coming in and small reapers were either ignored or botched by cheap local cowboy builders instead of real trades men

Ay up cal. Bit of context on the hotel: It used to be called the e four season hotel back in its hay day. If you noticed the four black towers on the top of the hotel then they represent the four seasons of the year. To answer the room question, there are 365 rooms in the hotel to represent the 365 days of the year, 52 chimneys for the weeks and 12 floors for the months. The last time the place was renovated was in 1978 and the company that own it now haven’t touched it since

33:47 to possibly give some context as to why there’s someone singing: iirc the Grand Hotel is an entertainment hotel. It was originally owned by Butlins (yes the holiday camp) in 1978 - 1999 and they’ve pushed their source of entertainment into the hotel location. Britannia hotels since purchased the hotel arm of Butlins around 1999 - 2000 after the whole situation with Rank going bankrupt and needing money to fix up their problematic amounts of things they’d owned and I’m guessing they’ve since kept the entertainment aspect within the holidays that was previously owned by Butlins.

Such a shame as it is/was a beautiful building! Built in the 1800's it cost around £11 million in todays money, and once made it was the largest brick building in Europe! It also has one bedroom for each day of the year!

Ive stayed here, it was the pits let me tell ya, We got given a room on the bottom floor and it was next to the boiler room, it was tiny 2 beds, no windows and you couldn't breathe in there it was so hot, it was more like a quantamino prison cell. anyway we complained (my wife doesn't let shit go easily) we got upgraded and the room was really nice, great view, nice and clean etc, but this was one of the best rooms, the average room or cheap room as we booked was absolute pish shite.

It's like he's never stayed in a hotel which offers entertainment for their guests. The performers have to be booked months in advance, so there's no way that the hotel could have known if there would be 6 or 600 guests staying on any particular night that far in advance.

There's a pub that me and my parents went to a fair amount when I was little and it was THE place to go to and we went back recently and it looked very dated much like this hotel. I can imagine way back when, that hotel would have been absolutely bustling!! Live shows, cabaret, couples and lovers dancing on the ballroom floor, while a live band is playing, lovers meeting secretly in rooms! I bet it was an amazing place to be, the place to be ❤!! Now architecturally it’s still beautiful, grand and has amazing presence! Maybe a bit run down and in need of a little TLC.. However it seems so sad, deserted & abandoned 😢.. Would have loved to have seen it back when it was in its prime and bursting at the seams with people dressed to the nines 💃🕺🏽!! Can you tell when I would have preferred to have lived out my adult years? 😂😂 Thank you Callum for letting us see the inside of this magnificent building, and what it’s like today! As a functional hotel today, the general and cleanliness standards are just not acceptable. The windowsill and headboard in your room are just dirty!! That should have been cleaned by a maid as standard, the stains weren’t exactly easy to miss! No customer should choose your hotel, pay for a room, where they will be staying for the next however many days, only to walk in and find its dirty, with rubbish mattresses and funky smells!!! Not acceptable!

It used to be a luxury hotel in the Victorian era and pre-WWI. Winston Churchill once stayed there. It’s owned by Britannia Hotels who buy all these old historic hotels and put the bare minimum in upkeep. You might end up visiting the Adelphi in Liverpool which they also own

One place u need to go to which just came back yesterday is deanpark California cliffs resort in great Yarmouth 100s and 100s of caravans. U get 6 bedrooms kitchen tv shower ect etc. Its worth have a review and a interesting one of ur reaction. U can upgrade if u want

I had the pleasure of going to Scarborough once Cal, and I was so excited as a little boy for a classic seaside holiday. What I experienced was the worst burger I had ever eaten. It was from a little shop overlooking the famous Scarborough fair. It was a grey, dry, fatty patty slapped in a bun. Disturbing stuff. Mcdonald’s was definitely the right choice for dinner!
