that space looks so cozyyyyyy~ when I went to Tokyo, my buddy and I stayed in a capsule hostel. we really only had space enough to store personal items and sleep, but the walls between bunks were thick enough to keep most of my bunk-neighbor's the snoring out (honestly revolutionary), and the rest of the amenities were public like a normal hostel. 11/10, hands down the best experience I've had at a hostel, I can't express how desperately I wish the rest of the world would adopt the capsule concept

Nah! I am claustrophobic and I had no problem. Stayed at the 9hrs capsule hotel in Shin Okubo. Stayed for two weeks. It was so relaxing. Best sleep I have ever had

Honestly I am curious, how much to make a comfortable makeshift capsule room in your house? Like a kid making a pillow fort? I imagine an inflatable mattress, large pillows on the outside as the walls, laptop, a piece of plywood with a blanket stapled to the bottom and top of it as the roof and one of those battery operated lights you push to click it on and off and a fan blowing into it. I honestly feel that would be peak adult child zen right there.

I love, love capsule hotels. Cheap, convenient, clean and just awesome. I stayed in one very similar to this one for a week while I was in Tokyo. Oh I'm 6'2 and I fit perfectly fine surprisingly😁.

Hm renting a capsule seems to be just renting a bed and a TV set, kinda like an old flophouse or a barracks but with more privacy and comfort. I studied them alongside substandard housing like cubicle apartments and Chinese cage apartments. These are all good for temporary lodging but unfortunately they're used more and more as a form of "affordable" housing. I remember hearing about homeless Japanese students sleeping in Internet cafes for example.
