It’s wild that they’ve not just taken combat inspiration, but everything else as well. No other RPG does the insanely dark nights, none implements forgeries of items (allowing you to keep “story” items) which change quest outcomes & future results, heck - no games do quests like Dragon’s Dogma, where the outcomes of the quests are determined by action & not dialogue trees. You’re seeing the princess be strangled? You can sit & watch, or run out there. The princess is fleeing tonight? Better be there tonight. An NPC died at the end of a quest? Revive them - new quest. Two NPCs in a fight? You can’t just “pick a side” in a dialogue option, you’ve got to win & there’s like a dozen different outcomes. Babysitting a shitty kid? Three different rewards based on how you physically babysit. Got the best reward? Then forgery the reward & change other quest chains because it was a forged idol. Dragon’s Dogma might not have had the best story, but the quest system was second to none, so many ways for a quest to end, so many ways to influence quests before, during & after. I can only hope DD2 can improve on this unique aspect & they don’t ditch it because some people were like, “Uh, how am I supposed to know if I’m getting the best result to a quest if I don’t have a dialogue tree that says ‘choose this for best result’?” & “Huh? I missed the quest line for the witch because she got killed, why would ‘tonight’ actually mean ‘tonight’ - why doesn’t the world revolve around me?”.

Going into the Everfall with Rook. That's a mistake for a new player. Running around with Rook is like a challenge veterans do. On hard mode. Also, congrats on finding the ballista in the shadowfort! Hard mode without a new game loaded or very little experience, forces you to have knowledge of combining curatives and their uses and the necessary pawn lineup and usage of their commands. Just keep your expectations realistic. Because this is essentially a remake. It's the finished version of the game they never were able to make. It's not going to be a wholly original experience from DD1. Rather and improvement on all fronts. So less sequel, more remake. If you approach from that mindset, you'll have a blast

I remember when Dragons Dogma came out in 2012. I was new to rpg and gaming in general. It looked interesting, so I ordered it. After installing it I made my character and soon found myself in a small, enclosed village. I can still see the tall gate that I knew led to freedom, but I could not figure out how to get past it. I spent a couple hours exploring, looking for a way out, but to no avail. In the end, I uninstalled the game and concluded that this game was stupid, and broken, a waste of money. Like I said at the start, I was a noob when it came to games and rpg's. I barely knew what the WASD keys were for. Then, 10 years later and playing lots of rpg's and mmo's, I ran across this game again and it looked great. I had no memory of ever having seen DD years earlier. So I bought and installed it. And, it was fantastic. I spent nearly 600 hours playing. Incredible game, one of my top 5 games of all time. And now there will be a DD2. Holy Moley, I am so ready to spend another 500 to 2000 hours playing this game which is even bigger that the first.

I even saw it in the $9.95 bargain bin at Walmart a couple years after its release, but I still passed on it. I just assumed that it was probably a noble but failed attempt by Capcom to cash in on the massive popularity of Skyrim, which is why it was being clearanced out for 10 bucks less than two years after its release. Nintendo put the switch port on sale for $5 and I finally went for it last week. I haven't been able to put it down since. Just a great GREAT game. Shame on me for shunning it for 12 years.

In dragon dogma u need to understand every enemy weakness, the hint in the pawns. The pawns will tell you the enemy weakness. For ex cyclops its his eyes and lightning, goblin and lizard man weak to fire, etc. For human u need to see his armor, heavy means more resistens to slashing, u can weakening them with lightning/piercing attack or u can blind them too so the fight more easly. Oh, and not every acounter need to be fight, listen to ur pawns adivise, if they say run just run 😂😂😂😂

I like the concepts of this game, but the fact that you have absolutely no direction after you get to gran soren is very frustrating and also that it doesn’t show you the reccomended levels for quests can be very annoying cause you wanna level up, but even just getting to your quests at the early game without much knowledge of how the fast travel works which isn’t even explained by the game slows it down so much since there are no mounts whatsoever so you just walk forever and following the minimap which is inverted too. I love the combat but the game design is definitely a little older as new games do kind of explain things much better. I don’t know if I have the patience to keep going and i’m seriously considering just waiting for the sequel and playing that because as of now i’m not having fun because i’m just walking forever and dying. Each quest I have in the city requires a lot of money that I don’t have and venturing into the world always means I’m dying over and over to reach any objective. I really wanna see this through but if I have to force myself through it to get to the fun parts seems more of a slog than anything.

The story is okay and I do agree with the world being empty. There are barely any interesting NPCs that you can meet on the road besides random npc pawns that you can recruit. Enemies spawning in the same spot and resetting the traps doesn't help either. Killing goblins, harpies, and bandits became more of a chore after 15+ hours.
