When you think about it, Greta is so much more tragic than Thom. “Greta” has been there, caring for lost souls for god knows how long. All she wants is to spare them the same fate that she has suffered through for ages.

Giving him everything she never had. If you think of she’s rationing his food he will live for maybe 50 years max. And we can see at least 6 other ships in the Hive. So she’s done this for possible 300-400 years. Alone. Isolated. Whose only company are mammals that see her as an abomination and she sees them like we see a pet. On the surface is benevolent. Under the surface is a tragedy for everyone involved

I feel sorry for "greta". She is just as trapped as they are. She more than them as it seems she is immortal but not nearly as advanced as those aliens who built the teleporter. Her "simulated existence" is even worse than the shortlived creatures in her little simulation. Her being a higher being alone makes her existence more painful, as knowledge is pain. She has much more knowledge about the situation than the humans, yet she knows her abilities are very limited, she might even be trapped there herself. Immortality is truly a curse, as oppose to evolution and generational immortality with the constant wiping of trauma, as well as constant evolution. She seems to be frozen in time.

I feel the saamee, if this episode was longer and had a much longer plot. I imagined that another person gets lost here and understood the alien who's trying to help. Later on, the alien helped him rebuild a ship, locate another station, and leave with the other victims. There's so many good episodes from LDR that I wished that continued on like those episodes with the three robots yo.

My head cannon was the entity was making webs that looked like dream catchers to give you good dreams and as such it is what she gives to those who gets lost in space where the only thing she can offer is solace, because what i noticed was behind the web was pire darkness almost as if she's catching the poor souls from travelling further.... Further to an even more hellish nightmare than what it is...

The people who appreciate this short are those who have the ability to look beyond what they see. They are capable of understanding that this episode is very deep. Showing the endless possibilities that we humans can experience is the vastness of space. It is beyond our understanding and we are so significant. I believe the story was that the humans were using hijacked “portals” to travel from one point in space to another. These portals were created by another alien life form but that civilization collapsed and these portals were no longer being maintained. Because of this, these portals were malfunctioning and would at random dump travelers into this area of space where the creature would care for the dying passengers and try to comfort them with illusions and hallucinations as she had no way of providing sustenance for them. So she would care for them until they starved to death. I THINK this is how the story goes I don’t remember entirely

If you read the short story it explains that there's a whole system of portals build around the galaxy by a bygone alien species, which "fractured" while the the Milky Way kept expanding; humans learned to use the portals in the local bubble (the part of "dense" galaxy our solar system is right now) but never managed to go beyond the Aquila Rift. The space station the protagonist dinds himself in was the Hub of the ancient portal system, built purposefully out of the galaxy by the ancient aliens to unite all portals around a "central" station which got in disrepair after those aliens went extint and the system collapsed. Ships which use the portals system, around 1% of times malfunction and get stranded un the Hub out of the galaxy, thousands of light years away from everything. The creature is just another stranded sailor, who got stuck on the station centuries ago, and went on to care for all those lost souls who got stranded there after here; she actually has no mean to sustain them but manage to give them peace in their last days while they die by hunger and thirst, making them believe a more "acceptable" lie. It declares that all those lost souls who understand the truth usually go mad by ot so it usually wipe their memory every time they do to five them peace. There's also a spine chilling passage in the story about Tom, starting to realize the truth, asking the creature how many men got lost in the station before him and the alien answers with something like "of all those I helped before, I never met a creature like you"

@@andreamarzorati5375 There is no such line as the one you quoted. There is also nothing Greta said that implies that those who live through their arrival actually die. Rather they eventually become her helpers and assistants... "...bustling along with the frantic industry of moles or termites. The things were seldom alike, even in the most superficial sense. Some moved via propulsive waves of multiple clawed limbs. Some wriggled, smooth plaques of carapace grinding against the glassy rock of the tunnels."
