The man of the hour! I hope I didn’t ruin your tip 😂. And if I did I hope I made up for it in saying nice things about you.

Can you breakdown the guitar stacks? I can hear clean, fuzz, low oct. high oct.. would love a vid breaking those down!

I was about to comment and ask “is this mix engineer Doug?” And then you said it, lol. I heard him mention this on that podcast but wasn’t sure how to achieve it, thanks!

Yep - Doug is a beast! Loved this tip. I'm not 100% sure if this is how he does it, just tried some stuff from listening to his interview on the song I was working on yesterday. Worked out really well!

He is! Every time I get a mix back from Doug I learn so much. “Oh that’s what I SHOULD have done there.” 😂

I’ve recently just gotten hip to the ozone exciter. It is really cool. Glad to see how you are using it in context I would love a good explanation on the difference between Clippers, saturators, exciters, expanders, maximizers and limiters. I see all these kind of plug-ins, but don’t really understand what they do and why they should be used
@christianhaleofficial3 ай бұрын
Love that - great idea! For starters, I would mess around with any of these tools on various sources and just see what happens. If there’s a track you would normally add compression to, try clipping or saturation for example. Or maybe there’s some frequencies you want to boost, then try multi band saturation. That’ll be the best way to see learn the differences in a practical way.

No matter what I do, it will only sound like a cheap home recording mp3 and never sound like a vinyl or cd quality balanced track. Loud mp3 guitars in the mix left and right and the rest of the music sounding swha-shwa 😅 I still only make $0.0000000007 per stream and I have to invest another $1.000.000 in plug ins to make it sounding a bit better. I can’t shake my old school proper recordings in the studio, but of course I shouldn’t complain either to make music at home! Anyways your advice and channel is much appreciated!! Thank you!

I understand the frustration of your music not sounding as good as you know it can. I’ve been there!! The good news is that you can work on your skills and see your music improve over time. It’s just an incremental process. As someone that’s done this full time for awhile now, I’d be embarrassed for you to hear some of the stuff I was making 6 or 7 years ago 🫣🫣. You can also get really good results without spending a ton on plugins. Check out a fairly recent video I made on mixing a vocal with free and stock plugins as an example. You got this 👊🏽

@@christianhaleofficial Thanks for replying on my comment and sharing your thoughts on your past recordings! You are doing this full time and that's nice for you! Of course recording progress comes with more experience for sure, I will check out your recent video as well!! In my mind it would still be best if I just handed my recordings to a Pro who ensures top quality results but that will be too costly :) I got to learn to be happy and improve my skills and keep the faith, I do believe I have got good ears and that's a start, haha.. Thanks for the encouragement! Cheers

But what about the 2 plugins that are on the gtr track?

It was just little alter boy on two tracks doing an octave thing, nothing major to the mix.

@@Mixbyab Right on! Yeah, the chain has gotten a little excessive over the years lol. Just from having something I like, then wanting to tweak the whole thing, etc. I'm working on making a simpler vocal chain with less plugins to make available for you guys, and in the mean time, check out my video on mixing vocals with free & stock plugs!

I don't know, I think the guitars don't sound good for this song. The guitar distortion sounds like digital distortion. Trent Reznor did it well but for this genre....I would go with something with more even ordered harmonics.
