Hi, Kriksis! I just discovered you today via a KZbin suggestion. I watched your video about your favorite art supplies, and enjoyed it so much because of your honest, natural personality that I looked for more . Now, having watched this one, I feel like a proud grandma! You've worked so hard, taken on so many challenges, and learned so much, despite many obstacles. I love your thoughts about wordless picture books for children. I'll continue following you, but for now I want to wish you the very best in your artistic and professional career! Maggie S., a 77-year-old mixed-media artist in Oregon, USA.

Hi Kriksis. I feel so thankful because i found you talking about a course i'm interested in. I really love doing illustrate. I do illustrating a lot. In my house, on my smartphone, even in my work place. You know what, I'm actually currently teaching english in a primary school in indonesia. I Have been teaching for 5 years. And i feel so blessed to be a Teacher. A lot of time, i do illustrating about the topic and material i'm teaching. And by doing so, all of my students feel so excited and so interested in learning english with me. Because i do illustrating.. And then i start thinking that i need to give much more benefit to any students, not only the students in my classroom. So im trying to find a course for my postgraduate segera related to my interest. And i did a campus research. And finally i found this. A children's book illustration course. So my question is, what skills do i need to sharpen before taking to that course? AND how big is the career opportunity for my future? Thanks...

Hello! I enjoyed hearing your story! I graduated University during COVID and our graduation ceremony was cancel and never did we get to reschedule it so I can relate to your disappointment in not getting to the children’s book fair. 😕 but sounds like things have worked out for you.

Hi Kriksis, I just recently found out video and I was wondering how was the atmosphere of the uni? How was the teacher and make friends as an international student? I heard there were mixed reviews in the uni but perhaps it was for different courses. Thanks in advance!

hello, great blog. I have a question I cannot get a definitive answer. In case you wanted to create a children book with digital media, do they give the advice to use rgb colors then convert to cmyk or to paint in cmyk right from the start?

Hello Engin! This is a good question by I’m not sure if I have the right answer as I’m mostly traditional illustrator and use digitally only editing part. I think I would definitely do more research but If I was you and wanted to create picture book for printing I would start with CMYK in the beginning.

Hi! I have a question and hoping to get an answer or insight for my dilema. I got my bachelor degree in computer science, but I always been interested in art/ illustration. I started to dive in into the children's book illustration since 2022 and have worked on several children's picture books. Recently, I've been thinking to apply for art school. My question is... 1. which university I should apply for if I want to specifically study in children's book illustration? 2. Should I apply for bachelor degree or master degree? Any answer or insight on this matter would be very much appreciated 😊

Hi kriksis! Very helpful video, as I'll be applying next year in 2023 (giving myself some time to populate my portfolio and generate funds to study). I have a few questions: 1. Is there really no scholarship or fee assistance for international students? 2. When do applications open for the September session? 3. How did this course benefit you in your work quality/work opportunities/artist fee?

Hello thank you! Best of luck for applying to this University this year! 1.I took student loan to study, I don't know if things have changed but at that time international students could get it and repayment of this loan starts only if I am earning more than 21k a year. 2. So I applied in March or April I think, got my answer around May and was offered conditional offer. I needed to send all my grades to them, but first needed to finish undergrads to do so, I also needed to do IELTS exam. 3. Yes I feel it helped me to plan my time more wisely. I don't necessary think it gave me work opportunities, but it depends from the person itself. A lot of things really depend how much emails you send and show your work to more people. But it gave me a better understanding of what kind of portfolio to make, what to focus on, how publishing world works. hope this helps!

Hi Kriksis! Thanks for your sharing!! It's very inspiring! I'm also very interested in this school and illustration. Can I ask that before you got this conditional offer, except for submitting your portfolio, did you also submit a personal statement and recommendation letters? Is the recommendation letter a must-have document for applying the school? Thanksss! Hope to receive your answer! 😊

Hello Kammy! SO wonderful! First of all good luck with the application and getting in! Yes, I submitted recommendation letter. My illustration teacher from undergrads wrote a few nice things he discovered working with me thought the lectures. I think it can be any mentor even if its not from undergrads. I think it was must have? But maybe things have changed as I was applying in early 2019. Hope this helped! All the best to you! Kriksis

May I ask if you study part time or full time and if it’s full time does it work in semesters or is it constant? I’d love to go but I’d need to work same time hehe
@kriksis

Hello! I studied full time and I had 5 semesters in total, but we had summer work too where we needed to keep on working on new ideas. Part time is twice as long, but longer time, so more to focus on other life things too. Hope this helped! :)
