You know it. That is a hard task to be able to give back to your parents when they’ve done so much as parents to make sure they give their children every possible opportunity at a better life that they possibly can. It’s such a genuine good heartfelt feeling. I say hard task referring to myself because I often feel guilty accepting anything from my kids. Growing up, my family had always been the type to have the oldest generation taking care of things whether it’s a group of family going out to eat or if we go on vacation ( which wasn’t fancy but best times of my life ) it’s been the older generations taking care of the reservations and things. So my mom ( fighting over the bill with my grandmother) runs it the same as well as myself and siblings. When I’m with my kids and niece and nephews I cover. Just the way it is . tradition. Same with gifts, it’s always the return game for the same reasons

The best part of this series for me is seeing the close relationship between Alexandra & her parents. I can see why Alexandra is so talented & wonderful. The apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree. Such a nice thing to have done for your mom and dad. I love how the ceiling was different in the guest bedroom, and the color continued down the wall. You lightened up the entryway and hallway, took care of the shoe problem, and opened the living room to be an incredibly inviting space. The dining room was gorgeous. Good job. I’m a fan and also an artist. I suggest that you shop second hand stores for good, real, inexpensive art maybe to have on hand for this type of job. We have Goodwill in the US and you can shop online. I’m sure you have something like it. Artists get a bit testy when people download art. Love the makeover! It would be so lovely to see a series of makeovers for people who live under the poverty level. Something as bold as an entire apartment/home with up-cycled furniture/items etc. to help stretch the budget. That would be something truly life changing for a person who has struggled to get by. I'm sure the social safety nets are much better in Canada but in the U.S. it's rough.

Alexandra and team came through and really hit this one out of the park. Mom seems to be the “no nonsense”type and would have shared her disapproval had there been but she genuinely seems pleased and happy. You can tell by how surprised Alex was at her reactions. They’re getting to know each other better through this renovation. Dad on the other hand could have walked into the home with it looking exactly as it was before the work started and would have only had compliments and kind words for his daughter, which warms my heart. He is such a great daddy and loves is baby girl no matter and will protect her feelings at all cost! What a wonderful man and such beautiful sentiment. A tip about mixing patterns is; you use different patterns in different scales. Like you could use a stripe pattern in a larger scale, along with a smaller scale stripe pattern.( like a pin stripe scale size). And they will work together fine. I do this with florals as well. When showing these differences in scales to a client, I would show scale by using my hand wide open for a larger scale, compared to a smaller scale the size of my fist. This designer tip is quite easy to use. Then if you keep repeating a few of the same colors, it feels more cohesive. Working together fine. Try it.
