6 months ago, I hated furries and thought they were weird, but I got VR chat and the first friend I met that helped me with the game was a furry. Then I started meeting more and more of them and had a lot of lot of great discussions with them and made a lot of good friends. Now I am a furry and I have my own fursona and have had a lot of fun!

The identity thing varies a lot. I'd say it's similar to an online username to many, and a more core true self identity to some others (usually those with trauma). But the community aspect itself, which is inviting and largely LGBT (but not entirely) helps offer a welcoming and comfy place.

Consent is a huge factor in the difference since actual animals can't give consent, plus the fact it's disgusting. Whereas being a furry isn't entirely about s*x.
