I'm glad you managed to protect yourself from these scumbags. eBay are amazing when it comes to these things. They must get it all the time so it's difficult to pull the wool over their eyes! I sold a 2018 MacBook pro a few weeks ago and I had so many scammers trying to scam, but I'm fully aware of the normal ones. This one is definitely more precise!

Thank you for posting this video. I just recently started buying from eBay and made only two purchase so far, I purchased a tablet from a seller and expecting it in a few days and hopefully it will be well. I found your video looking for information on older MacBooks in which one to purchase, I just made a bid so hopefully I will be a proud owner of a used MacBook pro 15" 2014. I once sold a 2011 MacBook Pro on eBay in 2014. the buyer then claimed it wasn't working properly and it was running slow. I asked them to send it back and they returned a different machine. Fortunately I had pictures of identifying factors and the serial number. eBay initially upheld their case and forced me to accept the return. When I told them what had happened and that I was reporting it to action fraud, they returned my money and banned the buyer's account. Never sell anything you can't afford to lose on eBay.

Yeah its a real risk and glad you got sorted in the end. The latest on this case is that the buyer has now gone to their credit card company they are now doing a payment dispute however eBay protect their sellers from this and I'm probably gonna do a future video about it. Thanks for watching.

I sold a Camera recently and photographed it all and the box but what happens if the buyer claims they was just a rock inside around the same weight ?

eBay has procedures for this, call them and tell them what happend. Chance are seller has done before! Thanks for watching!

Seems certain items attract it, ie apple products, phones etc . .I wouldn't risk it

I'm preparing to sell my desktop PC preferably on eBay. Is there a way as a seller of protecting myself from scammers swapping out components (e.g. graphics card) then claim the computer is faulty?

Hi, good question. What I suggest you do is photograph all the components and if there are serial numbers jot them down. I know this seems a bit extreme, but this is really the only way. As a deterrent you could also put in the listing that you have made a note of all the serial numbers of all the components to stop potential scammers from trying this. Thanks for watching!

@@techhubwiltsuk Many thanks for the tip about noting the component serial numbers and saying it in the listing. Much appreciated. I did a bit more homework and managed to order in some tamper proof labels designed for such a situation. I've photo logged the labels in place to compare should a scammer try the old switcharoo trick.
