Is $540 for this custom tailored bespoke suit and a shirt a good value? Leave a comment down below!

Are you heading to Bangkok in 2022 or 2023? Thailand has a lot of tailors, with varying levels of quality. If you don't know how to tailor a suit, this video is for you. Tailoring a men's suit is a long process with dozens of details, so you need to know a few things before you go.
This is NOT a sponsored video. I reached out to one of the oldest tailors in Thailand, and one of the few that runs its own garment factory, even stitching for other custom tailors. So they have full control of the product from start to finish. They even have a small in house tailor shop located on site. I paid full price, and was very happy with this shop.

If you are traveling to Thailand in 2022, this is definitely a fun thing to do, and can save you a ton of money over custom made suits in London.

Nice video! I would’ve listened to more of the tailors advice, they know their product and what looks best. You had them cut this suit very slim. Like the guy said, I hope you don’t gain any weight. Also for what you paid, a glued canvas, you could get 2 suits at a department store. Also if you go back, have them adjust the sleeve pitch/attachment. Anyways, still a very entertaining video!

I came past one such tailor in Bangkok a few years ago. His elegant suits were displayed at the front of his shop. I looked at a stylish pinstripe suit on a mannequin there. Upon closer inspection, the "pinstripes" were actually the words "f*** you" written in tiny print. I guess you can find anything in Thailand.

The service seems friendly but the sleeves of the suit crease way too much when standing relaxed. There should be no wrinkles or creases on the sleeves when standing upright and relaxed. Their Professionalism is awesome, don't like the fact that in this Tailor shop they did not offer the "little idiosyncrasies" of the inner-lining, being made as same design as Pocket square( being the same as the upper pocket's closure, so as not to have to utilize a pocket square, and be charged(extra)for it, as @ Suit-Cut, in the BMK center( like the fact that Robert & Jay, was genuinely looking out for the customer's(saving's); thereby solidifying a totally repeat customer(return, and recommendation) to other friends, and family(especially, in the PassPort Bruh Movement), from the US, and other participating Countries) We are Vast! Interesting video but you are stepping into a bit of a minefield with suit descriptions. A bespoke suit is crafted from a unique pattern, created by the tailor, from your individual measurements. There was no mention of the pattern in the video, but based on the collar gap issues, I suspect yours is an MTM suit, i.e. modified from a existing block pattern. If, at some future point, you are in the market for another suit, it would be very interesting to do a back to back comparison with a tailor just around the corner (Narin), who has a very good reputation in Bangkok. You would not normally expect to be offered a Polyester blend material for a Bespoke suit.

This is a very interesting video and I was interested to know how all the comments were very different so I watched the entire thing! 1. The suit was half canvassed sewn! Look at the fitting suit with the canvassing to the lapel. Saw folks going back and forth about this. 2. You had 2 shirts in the video, assuming cost is with two shirts? So I know what to ask for when I go in. And I saw a mention of a wool blend rather than a polyester blend? Is that right? Or did I misunderstand? I thought the other cheaper black was the polyester blend. 3. Saw some illiterate guy mention 100,000 for an Italian suit. Pretty sure I heard the Mana guy mention 35000-100000. I also know my suits and have bought zegna for 70k a suit. Pricing seems to make sense for me? 🤷🏽‍♂️ Love how most people ignore the facts provided! P.S loved how detailed oriented you were with your clothes. You gave that Mana guy a run for his money for sure! I am gonna check this place out and will report back. May actually try out the Italian fabs to be a good test.

Haha thanks Benny. Yes, a lot of the comments ignore the fact that I knew exactly what I was buying, and even explain why I prefer half canvas to fully canvas. (If you watch the full video 😅) Yes, the price is inclusive of the shirts. I did the mid grade half poly half wool. If anybody knows a truly better deal, not just a cheap place, I would love to try that one next. But I thought it seemed reasonable and knowledgeable for the price.

This tailor is giving better advice than most Asian tailors. However, your jacket is definitely too short (and you wanted it even shorter!) And your gorge height is too high. Also the arms are very wrinkled and don't drape at all. That's the downside of going too tight. Would be interesting to know what the suit lining was made of. Not much point in avoiding polyester in the shell fabric of the suit for better breathability but then adding a polyester lining.

@@Hanto_san the suit pattern is wrong, meaning what, this suit or all suit patterns. Right at the very beginning you've got to get the material correct. Asia is full of polyester blend material presented as 100% wool. Don't take any notice of the label, they've got fake stuff out of China all over the place because it's cheap and if you're not switched on they'll rip you off. The right material is vital, if you can't get that right you might as well wear a pair of jeans.

While this is a useful video for showing the typical process of buying a suit in Bangkok, it also inadvertently illustrates some of the pitfalls of buying one there. Let's face it. The vast majority of guys who are buying suits in Bangkok ( or anywhere else for that matter) are uninformed consumers. They generally know little or nothing about fabrics, and the various methods in which suits are constructed. And this is completely understandable, since many guys only need a suit for the odd occasion, and don't feel the need to do a deep dive into research. Therefor, they are prime targets for being over-charged or downright scammed by Bangkok tailors. The Crown tailor charged you a somewhat premium price for a poly-wool blend suit with a cheap inner liner At that price-point, you should be able to get a decent 100% wool suit with a silk liner. It should not only be half canvassed in its construction, but should also be stitched instead of glued. at this price. To his credit, the Crown tailor alluded to the fact there can be a lot of poly-wool blends being fraudulently sold as pure wool suits in Bangkok. I think you could have done much worse than Crown Tailor. By Bangkok standards, they are better than average. The tailor was at least attentive to your concerns, made extensive notes, and incorporated them into meaningful adjustments to your suit, shirt, and trousers. For those considering buying a suit in Bangkok, keep in mind that the term"bespoke" is commonly (and improperly) thrown about by tailors. This was not a bespoke suit in this video. It was a made to measure. Only a couple of tailors in the city actually make suits on site. The rest send your measurements off to local factories to be made. Be prepared to pay a premium price for a premium quality suit -even in Bangkok.
@on.theworld
@on.theworld 8 ай бұрын
Thanks for this, I’m planning a follow up video. Which tailor would you recommend for people that want the best quality in Bangkok regardless of price?
@russianwolfhound1
@russianwolfhound1 8 ай бұрын
@@on.theworld From a "price is no object" standpoint, Narin Couture and Tanika Tailor should definitely be on your short-list. I can't think of any other tailors in Bkk that can produce full canvassed suits. And certainly from a quality standpoint, these two shops will be very hard to beat. The same holds true for their half canvassed suits if you decide to go that route. One thing that sets Narin and Tanika apart from pretty much everybody else is that they will produce your fully canvassed suit in-house. This is a really important distinction, ensuring that the tailor is involved in the whole suit making process. The vast majority of other places in the city (including Crown and Rajawonse) merely take your measurements, and contract out the suit-making to a local factory. You won't encounter the typical Bangkok tailor pledge that the "suit will be ready in 24 hours" at Narin or Tanika. Be prepared to come back for many fittings over at least a two week period. A quality suit takes time to make. At a lower price point, you may want to check out Tailor on Ten. However, they're only able to produce a half canvassed jacket. Also keep in mind that although they have an in-house alteration team, their suits are still made off site. I've seen inconsistent results from them, so my recommendation comes with a bit of trepidation along with a "your mileage may vary" caveat. Still, they're probably better than most of their competitors, and enjoy a strong following among the ex-pat community. One thing to keep in mind when going "upscale"for a suit in Bkk is that the cost of Italian or British wool is pricy. It's quite expensive to import into Thailand, and the tailors who actually offer authentic European wools don't tend to buy in large enough quantities so as to receive a significant discount. Passing off polyester or poly blends as pure wool is common practice among tailors in Bangkok. No such concerns at Narin or Tanika. So keeping the above in mind, apart from their much higher quality in-house tailoring work, the use of authentic, expensive fabrics is another reason why you pay a much more premium price at Narin or Tanika. While your wallet will undoubtedly end up considerably lighter at Narin and Tanika, the bottom line is that you'll at least be walking out with a high quality suit that won't disintegrate within a year. Regardless of where you end up going, I recommend that you conduct a bit of research and arm yourself with some basic knowledge about fabrics and the various methods in which suits can be constructed. Knowing exactly what you want, and being able to accurately convey that information to a tailor will go a long way to ensuring a positive outcome.

You never buy a suit made of cloth that has polyester in it, any amount. A suit, a good suit should always be 100% wool of good quality, preferably from an Italian or English Mill.... don't use Chinese cloth, it's inferior.

Dino Filarte, one of the worlds leading fabric mills in the world. Is milled in China, using Australian Merino Wool. If you would like to shut yourself off from a country, you miss out on all the value and the good fabrics out there. It’s just unfortunately a lot of mills don’t really advertise, even some high end mills from Italy and England are hard to really research. Take my dress shirts for example, I used Giza 45 Thomas Mason Extra Long Staple. But yet I have now got my shirts using SOKTAS Long Staple which I think is softer and creases less than TM. Yet SOKTAS is milled in Turkey, not Italy or England. Turkey is a major fabric hub in the world and a lot of premium fabrics come from there. Like yes I would agree a good suit should be 100% wool, not everyone can afford that and having an honest tailor explain the fabrics and prices. Is really refreshing to see. Someone shouldn’t buy a suit because of the price tag or if it’s “100% wool” or “fully canvas”. They should buy a suit that fits there needs. If their only going to wear like a tuxedo 2-5 times a year, a fused suit will be fine. No point getting Zegna Bemberg Fully Handmade MTM when you’re not going to wear it as much.

@@anaussieinjapan I disagree with 100% wool statement. I own linen/wool blends for the summer, Tweed, Flannel and even a cotton one. Blends are fine so long it fulfills a purpose and is quality, Polyester shouldn’t be in a suit VB has in its hope line some polyester blends. China has good quality and so long a western company does not produce cheap suits there (while exploiting labor) I am fine with it.
