Stihl for the win. I’ve always just used a round file and had great success, but you’ve got to get that rake right. Good video Tony.

The more I saw, the more I understand, the rakes are super important.

You barely had gotten started into the video and I will say this, I prefer the Sthil sharpener over all. The next choice would be the Oregon sharpener set. The Sthil simplfies things a lot more meaning that all you need to know is the basics about sharpening. The Oregon requires a little more knowledge of sharpening and a little more work in the process if your rakers need filing. The Sthil does it all in one step. I just think that the Sthil is a big time saver and accurate. Thanks for the video Tony!

I agree. Nothing will be as accurate as the Timberland, but the Stihl will be so close it doesn't matter.

Hey Tony. Got to try out the Makita today after you sharpened it. It cut some healthy chips and sliced through some four inch trees back there like butter. Great job.
@TonysTractorAdventureАй бұрын
I am glade you liked it I played with it a little more than the video showed. A fresh sharping would even do better.

Razor Sharp Chain . Have a guide on your file . Sharpen each tooth, now remove the guide and sharpen each tooth again . The second time is sharping the Gullet under the tooth . Remember to pay close attention to the Rackers , they need to be below the tooth . Razor sharp chain .
@TonysTractorAdventureАй бұрын
Yep, I said something like that in the video. We are in agreement.

Tony Ive been hand filing for a long time and Have a Raker gauge. I do have the Stihl 2n1's for each saw that I carry with me. They are quick and nice it you hit something and a very portable. Good Video

Thank you. I have definitely found my most favorite.

Glad you like them! I enjoyed making the video.

I've had that Stihl for years and without a doubt the very best sharpener ever. It even files your rakers in one process. It's small and easily toted into the field with you.
@TonysTractorAdventureАй бұрын
It is definitely my favorite

I own a few different sharpeners. The little orange anodized model with the small hand cranked burrs and a full fledged grinder and one of those hand held gizmos that show you the right angle supposedly holding the file at the right depth. I prefer the hand file used freehand above all of 'em. . I use the grinder only for diamond wheels for carbide chains

It seems you have a plan that works for you. 👍

@@TonysTractorAdventure It was Buckin Billy Rae. For no reason I can articulate, I was resistant to just freehanding, years and years and I never even tried it. it and then I saw his videos. So I tried it. Won't go back.

I’ve got a pferd brand. Definitely an effective sharpener. Looks identical to the stihl….not sure which one came first.

I think Stihl bought the rights.

You may have noticed the angle for the file direction is on the top plate of each tooth if hand filing, but the 2 in one works nice
@TonysTractorAdventureАй бұрын
That is not accurate. Many chain manufactures do not have the marks on the cutter head.
@kerrybowden9097Ай бұрын
Sorry for my ignorance.. Didn't mean to put out the wrong information. Thanks for the correction.
@hillcresthayfarms9664Ай бұрын
the 2 in 1 do work well but they wont work on a skip tooth chain

I use Bucking Billy Smith methed off sharping. Your is all good you probably have seen his channel . God Bless 🙏

That guy is a real pro. I doubt I will get to his level of understanding.

Hand file with no little bs tools is the best. 1 file with handle and a vise to clamp the bar is all you need. Everything else is a waste of time and money and needs 110v. IF YOU BUY ELECTRIC SHARPENER BUY A SIMINGTON 451 C and go square grind
@TonysTractorAdventureАй бұрын
Thank you for your opinion.

That first one is the shiz for the casual user. If you use the saw daily you will soon pick up the freehand/oregon skill and save yourself a load of time.
@TonysTractorAdventureАй бұрын
I don't know. I think the Stihl is faster.
@BodhranaramaАй бұрын
@TonysTractorAdventure of the rest it's good too, especially with the simultaneous raker file.
@TonysTractorAdventureАй бұрын
I will admit. I am not a pro. Most of the guys that do it everyday. likes the old hand file the best.

💁🏽♂️ Stihl has ALL the files available. Including the square for square teeth. Works perfectly. Been using mine for years. Won’t cut without it. 😎 🦌🐎🦅🪶🕊
