Should also be mentioned: All helmets produced in the U.S. have to meet the same safety minimum no matter what. Even a cheap helmet can save you life/keep you from turning into a veggie. However, most higher end helmets ($80 and up) have a technology called MIPS. It’s essentially a plastic liner that allows the helmet to move a little, essentially has a little give so that if you fall and the helmet is twisted in any way it won’t be as harsh on your neck

Some brands like bontrager also have a honeycomb structure in the helmet that is designed to be crushed on impact, and it can replace mips. Doesn't POC have its own version of mips as well?

A helmet generally should break on impact. A hard helmet that doesnt break will transfer that force into your head (see newtons cradle for how exactly that works) A softer helmet that breaks on impact will actually absorb it more, and is the same reason cars have "crumple zones"

The cheap one is actually alot more safe! So helmets are supposed to have bad durability. Mostly so that if you where to fall the helmet takes most of the force from the impact. So it's better if it breakes. But if you would buy the expensive one you would suffer alot more pain and sometimes you might even die from it. Because the force from the impact will go to your head damaging it. Tho you will most likely get hurt by any helmet it's better to hurt yourself than actually having a big chance of death.

Hey now, I can confirm cheap helmets work GREAT. I cracked one and only came away with a concussion, overall really good product. (I fell REALLY hard off a curb. Taking a sip of water from my camel pak, went off curb, handlbars go sideways and I slam down at the speed my front tire was going.)

The thing was destroyed yet my head was fine Now i know why my father wanted (and still do) me to keep my helmet on while biking and always buy top quality gear When friends wait for me to take my helmet they always ask me (once not more) why i keep taking it.
