This is how my perception of motorcycles has been changing over time. From liking nothing but sportbikes to appreciating them all from dirt bikes to sport-tourers and everything in between.

@martonlerant5672
@martonlerant5672 3 жыл бұрын
Thats heavily dependant on where you live. Autobahn is still a thing. And at lest here in my homecountry Hungary, i know plenty of nice quality backroads that close to noone uses, where you can be a hooligan to your heart's content - as due to lack of useage police presence is non-exsitent. Ofc. if you want to be a hooligan on heavily used roads or the main street you will get fined. ...which i couldn't care less, about, to me it always seemed like a dick move.

I’ve got no plans for upgrading as it suits my style of riding perfectly. It Provides all day comfort, adequate off road capability, reasonable weight and ample performance. Cheers from Canada! 🇨🇦

I was an ex-r1 racer, all supersport guy, then i started riding all sorts of bikes (rode literally all bikes under the sun by now), and am loving adv bikes and supermotos, they are just so versatile, and the tech is often a 1000 times better than a supersport, performance is way too much for the dirt, and weight feels kinda heavy, and the versatility is amazing !!! Wandering mallu, i say keep the panigale (a collectible), get a GS , or a superduke GT (If you need power) not the multi, it's a different thing all together..

I've gone from a sports bike, had a 2-yr gap with no bike in the garage, and then just before Christmas bought a naked bike - a GSF 1250 Bandit. I love it - yes, it's not as nimble as my SV was in the twisties, but it does everything well enough, and the torque is awesome - no downchanges at highway speeds to overtake, just twist the throttle and go. Nice upright riding position, super comfy seat, and good ergonomics. I can't see myself owning a pure sports machine again - at 51, I just can't sacrifice comfort for performance.

I feel you man.. I've sold my sv650s because as I get older its too hard on the wrists/back...I've since been lusting after harleys, and even a goldwing. But when I sit down and make a list of what i really want from a bike : comfort, good looks, a little storage, small enough to lane split, and able to do 100km/h with ease...I've arrived at a big Vespa.

Buying a cafe racer for my first own bike was the best decision Ive made. First two "real" motorcycles after 125cc was 1300cc custom and Hayabusa, loved both for different reasons and cafe racer was the best middle ground. I dont care going fast on a straight, I just want to chill. When you give up on prejudices, you realize there is so much that you didnt understand before.

I own a naked BWM S1000R and a R1200 GS Adventure. Both are such amazing, contrasting machines. Every time I ride the S1KR, Im blown away by how visceral and agile it is. I think to myself, "Self, this is the only bike I'll ever need." Then I take a spin on the GSA... It's remarkable how smooth, comfortable, and all around ridable the thing is. It opens up an entirely new world of riding with long distance touring and off-roading. All types of bikes are fun for their own reasons, but it's hard to ignore how incredibly well rounded the newer, more refined adventure bikes have become.

I started on a ZX-10R, moved to a FJR1300, had R1200RT and now have a R1250 GS Adventure. Hands down the GSA is the best bike I've owned, I can flick it through the twisties, take it off the pavement, spend days cruising on a tour in comfort, and pick up groceries on my way home from all of it and not have to hang the bags off my grips. I'm 46 and probably considered old, but I don't feel it.

Old man here! Way past his midlife-crisis, turning 62 soon. Well I for one swapped the GS for something sportier and not a lot less practical if you ride without a pillion: Kawasaki Ninja 1000sx. I own a duke, and my next bike will probably be some kind of "sport touring" or adventure bike.. I´ve recently tried a friend 790 Adventure, and a 390 Adventure too. and i liked them a lot. even more than Bigger adventure bikes.. because i think that they have enought power for having fun and travel with good prince and mantenaince costs.. on the 390 adventure you will probably feel some limits in some situations. but is a lot better to have fun and travel with a bike that you can buy and afford, than keep looking for some suuper adventure bike in your couch..

I started on an old 48HP 500cc adventure bike that I got from my dad. I kept thinking its way too uncool and heavy, but I kept riding nonetheless cause it was the only thing i could afford (lol). Now that I have been riding it for about 2 years, and am able to upgrade my drivers license (yes, there is a thing in Germany where you can only get certain licenses for motorcycles either at a certain age, or when having the license below for 2 years) I feel like I dont really need any other bike. I have grown to love my bike now, and I'm enjoying every ride. Just because its heavy, doesnt mean it cant be fast or agile, its all about the technique. I will likely get a bigger bike next year, but I will certainly not decide on power or looks alone like I originally would've done. Appreciate every bike, not based on looks, but based on what its like driving them!

Wanted a cb500f but got a cbr500r (looked 100x better) which started great but gave me such back problems (at 6ft my rider triangle seemed wonky). Ditched that for an upright Versys 650 and oh mah lordy, its the best. True eye opener and turned me on to wanting more ADV-ish bikes. I would of NEVER looked at them before. Wind protection, upright posture and bars (over clip ons) aaaaaare incredible. The turning radius in parking lots speaks for itself.

It doesn't matter what it is as long as it has two wheels and an engine and I'm riding it then I will have a smile on my face. A gs is a pretty good bike though. Easy to ride fast, easy to tour on the thing it is worst at is riding in challenging conditions off road. Fine is you have mega skills but most of us don't.

For the past few years I've been on an Indian Springfield. It was a great touring bike but at almost 400 kgs I thought it time for this old guy to get something lighter. The BMW sales guy I know suggested the GS. I replied, 'Retired guy buys a GS? Too much of a cliche for me.' He laughed and said he knows what I mean. I ended up buying a Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro, the road version of their adventure bike. It's a great touring bike (only half the cliche points), and beside it in the shed is a Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 as a fun (=hooligan) city bike - the Swedish version of the KTM 390. I know the Tiger could double as the city bike, buy why stop at only one? :)

Age has nothing to do with it. I started riding when i was 19 years old and only liked naked and sportbikes. 4 years later i switched to a versys 650 because i realized i liked to travel and see many places while being comfortable. Then i decided i wanted to go off road and still have the long trip capability so last year i got a 790 adventure R. Not as comfy as the versys but i find myself more comfortable riding stood up because it has a higher handlebar, i can do some serious off road, i have fallen of the bike and minimal scratches to it, suspension is fully adjustable, the engine is very fun and despite having a 21 inch front wheel, the bike is very flickable and stable while cornering,, also is lighter than the versys. So it has nothing to do with age, but with what you want to do.There are old guys still ripping in supersportbikes so yeah, welcome to adventure touring! You will not regret it

Lmao, I had one look at the BMW S1000XR and I went: "Yeah... I think i'm gonna skip on sportbikes..." And so it was. I've never owned a thoroughbred supersport and I just don't feel the need. Why would you want a supersport BMW S1000RR when you can have the exact same thing but comfier? I still do trackdays with it and it has no problem keeping up with the top of the pack in intermediate groups which is where most people likely peak in their trackday experiences. To clarify, I had an Yamaha YZF R125 and so I'm familiar with sportbike ergos, and I feel there is no need when you can get an arguably better package for the same money and significantly more usable on the road. I just realised you have actually ridden one so surely you must understand what I'm talking about.

Well, that is normal, I would say. Myself, guess I never was young...did driving school an a Suzuki in a rather sporty position and hated it (if you go only superslow through low-speed areas...you learn to hate it). So I decided I never wanted anything sporty and went for a Yamaha XT 600 E. I loved the riding position, but I was just a bit too short for it. It mostly liked to take a nap when I tried to manouever it around. So for my next bike, I decided I needed something lower, and that a street-oriented bike would be fine. I ended up with a Benelli Leoncino, but after a while I noted some discomfort in my neck. So yes - I installed a bar riser and added some cushioning to the seat to get a more relaxed knee angle. I am that old. Now this thing is just perfect for me.

I was super bikes all my life. You realize you can do everything you can in a super bike and more. Off-road, comfortable long rides, fully loaded adventure. I’ll never go back to sport bikes, they are a waste to the current adventure bikes available. They were old man bikes but old men have experience and have the know.

I've been there, done that.. Soon you will have get one adventure and other bike styles will still be nice, but you won't ride them :) A tip, instead of jumping to the biggest adventure bike (1250gs), try the mid weight (F850GS or 890R). :)

I've had a newest XR 2021 recently and didn't like it's size, lack of character (sound) and weight. For riding two up it was not so practical and i felt insecure on U-turns and stop and go traffic. Just switched it to the MT10 fully equipped (plus comfort seat and low foot pegs for passenger) and it's just much nicer for commuting, short and longer rides, even two up is nice cause my gf doesn't get much wind (like on XR cause of high rear seat). It all just depends on personal needs. For me, i fell in love with MT. 🙏

You should try a more off road oriented adv bike like the 790 or 890 adv r from KTM.. An Africa Twin, or a Yamaha Tenere 700 or a F850 GS too... You might like them more than the GS if you were serious when you said: "its just take it off road"... Cheers!

Theres' no shame :) I'm 26, and my first two Bikes were a used BMW F800 GS in 2017 and a new 22' Harley Pan America Adventure Bike. They are super versatile and usefull - and during Group rides on the street i can easily keep up with my friends on Supersports and Nakeds - 1250cc will do that for you. Just don't expect her to go quick around a track :D

It's not about getting old, it's more about fitting your needs. I'm just 37 and my first "real" bike is a GS1250 which is also a childhood-dream ;-)

I threw out my back (age 62) and popped a joint in my hip out while trying to throw a leg over a Honda Africa Twin. Didn't know it was a bit taller than my 2017 BMWc650gt scooter. Owwwwww......that hurt.

i started the other way round. with dreambike african twin in my mind and doing my license on a 850gs i only started to see sports bike as a possibility. but when i took a honda cbf out i was like "hell, this aint shit" and now am fan of fully dedicated motorbikes instead of in-between solutions.

A 1250 off-road is completely different feel than a light 100kg enduro. For off-roading the lightest the better.

A sports bike is for kids, and/or people who don't venture much far from home. As you get older, you usually understand that you need a comfortable bike to ride hundreds of kms, space to put your stuff, and possibility to travel with your girlfriend/wife. There's a reason, the two most sold bikes in europe are the GS1250 and Africa Twin. Besides, a sports bike is mostly useless and uncomfortable on the road. That's why, most people i know, included myself, usually start with a sporty 4/2cyl naked or sports bike, and end up with an adventure/touring in a few years' time.

You gotta give the S1000R a try. Taking into account all the bikes ive ridden its the perfect compromise between a torquey road bike while still feeling like a balls out super sport.

I’ve never cared about sport bikes, they can’t go off-road… so what’s the point? The roads I ride on my VStrom are always empty because sport bike and cruiser riders are afraid to ride them. Perfect for me, the less of them I have to endure the better.
