I'm in Florida, and I have only been doing this 22 years but I get GOOD gator blades, and keep them sharp. I gave up on chute blockers, and Mulch kits year 1.

I put a mulch kit in my grandstand last week and just finished the first week and 80 accounts with it on. It works perfect on 80% of the accounts but we did have some that left stringers that we had to come back snd blow. Even so I’m really happy to not be bagging grass and will leave it on until leaf season.

That's exactly what I do with my z master 5000 series. I bought gater blades removed my mulch kit and made excessive passes to continue to mulch all the while redirecting debris to a designated area. It works wonders and saves a lot of time not trying to deal with the hassle of blowing none stop and the leaves still not being in smaller pieces. Smart choice.

Same here, one can waste a LOT of time just blowing leaves. And that's not even counting windy days. Worst leafy scenario, it's still easier for me to reduce with the mower, then bag and remove.

When you have the mulch kit on the mower does it still strips the lawn good ?

I recently put a mulch plate on my 36' stander and I'm happy with it.. but with lots of leaves on bigger yards.. the open chute method sounds like a beauty.. ;)

hey man recently bought a grandstand I'm wondering if you recommend the mulch kit? I'm in v.a thank you
@kenboxx2655 жыл бұрын
I installed a mulch kit on my old grandstand for leaves only and I thought it was fantastic. I mulch everything so well it looked like it was bagged.
@LawnCareRookie5 жыл бұрын
What blades did you use? Was it the Toro kit or just a plate over the chute?
@kenboxx2655 жыл бұрын
LRC it was the complete toro mulch kit. Wonderful for leaves but did remove for grass. Kinda of a pain to install the baffles but no way I would use for grass.
@techevar7 жыл бұрын
That's exactly why we do not put the mulch kits. We do some commercial properties and we can use the mowers as blowers. Also what I noticed with the mulch kits the grass will clog much easier when the grass is wet.

i use gators ( and now, g6's on the rider and walkbehind, but those things are heavy ) all season, even on my push mower, but let us know if you see an improvement with leaf cleanups if you try gators while the kit is still installed.

I think you are on the right track. There comes a time when there are just too many leaves to mulch. I don't own an LC business, but care for 4 acres of HOA land. We have a TON of leaves. When it gets leafy, I switch to gators, but never mulch. I usually direct the leaves to a single strip, and then hit them several times and disperse them out, as long as I can do it without running over the grass too much causing damage or terrible stripes. If there are too many for that, then I still run them to a single strip, run them over a few times, keeping them in the same area, then bagging. I can reduce 3 or 4 trailers full, to a single trailer. Less than one, actually. Saves time in the end, but, the tarp will be heavy! Keep up the good work!

I would also be curious about using 6 gators in X blade config. Just a curiosity, it is time and expense, and I would engage the deck at lower throttle, and then throttle up to ease tension on the clutch if you do.

How much extra do you charge for taking care of leaves each service?

Double pass, when even necessary, with the recycler kit evaporates leaves. What type of leaves is it not doing well with for you?

Rookie, On Gator blades. I've seen other lawn care sites that the provider cross bladed. Using two crossed blades on one spindle. So I'm assuming on the Grandstand you would use four blades on two spindles. I got that from Dan's Vlog if you were interested in that method. Hope this helps.

I mulch the big piles of leaves with my 21 first. The problem with a big mower is the blow out you get before you get to a big pile. You can control this better with a 21. It makes the piles a little more dense then you can turn them into dust with the big mower.

hey man I really appreciate your videos, i know this one is a little older but i would really like to get your input on how you feel about the mulch kit now would you recommend it for regular cutting season? i recently bought a new 48" grandstand and trying to decide if i should get the mulch kit thank you !!
@LawnCareRookie6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah, it's best for grass. Tall wet thick grass in the Spring can be a little tricky. Just keep your deck clean and blades sharp. Leaves not so much... Grass flap is a good alternative. I'm gonna try it on my next mower, so I can open it up when the grass is crazy thick.
@JJ-dm9cx6 жыл бұрын
@@LawnCareRookie thanks for the response! hope things are going well, i currently have the operator control toro grass flap, have you found that a considerable amount of costumers request to have their grass mulched in your area? i just realized you are in the richmond area im a little north in fredericksburg. thanks again man
@LawnCareRookie6 жыл бұрын
@@JJ-dm9cx no one really cares or requests anything. Some want bagged and I say I don't do that but it's mulched up pretty good so they wouldn't notice, and they're normally fine with that. Some people have actually complained about some clumps, but that was my fault for not breaking them up before I left after a really wet day. So you have to be careful when the grass is really long and wet.

Im in the same boat. Undecided. Usually I leave (no pun intended) it on and have reasonably good results, but I also have a leaf vac and a dump trailer and using the discharge to push lawn area leaves toward my rig might save me time. Decisions.

I side discharge with my grandstand, no block off plate needed. Have a worker blow excess leaves apart or in the woods if necessary. Been working great for me.

I thought about going with a mulch kit as well, but decided to buy a GrassFlap instead so I didn't have the hassle of removing the mulch kit. No, it probably doesn't work as well as a true mulch kit, but that wasn't really my intent. I use it mainly for flowerbeds, cars, sidewalks etc. I think with limited equipment to work with, I made the right choice, in my situation. If I had a fleet of mowers I would probably run true mulch kit on some units. I just purchased a set of Gator blades to try out on leaves. So far they seem TERRIBLE in grass. I'm having to double cut in some cases. I haven't been able to test in leaves yet, but will soon!

My gator blades cut great on my grandstand, cutting bluegrass and fescue. I keep them sharp and they work great. Not sure why yours aren't. I'm looking into a grassflap or mulch kit. Sounds like grassflap is more all-season friendly for helping mulch leaves up than a mulch kit. Surprising...I've seen Blades of Grass Landscaping use his Vantage with the mulch kit and the leaves disappear. Thought we could get the same out of the grandstand since there basically the same machine.
