One thing about working with large animals, you work as quietly and as gently as possible. Prudent pace, yes, but fast and quick startles and unsettles these animals. You're a credit to your industry, Sir.

I follow several hoof trimmers, and Nate is one of my absolute favorites BECAUSE of his gentleness and BECAUSE he takes the time necessary to ensure the animal is as comfortable as a reasonable level of care can make it. And there's not a damned thing "wrong" with that. And speaking as both a woman AND as if I were a cow, I'm choosing and sticking with the man who "takes his time" EVERY TIME. 😉 Great job, as always, Nate!

That comment echoes a sentiment constantly made on the hoof gp channel, where he feels the stress of being in the crush is a big problem. (Or maybe it's the fact he's paid by the cow; do faster work, which means more cows, which means more money).

I feel like I need to apologize on behalf of the critic who said you need to work faster! I suspect I know why. Another hoof trimmer made such a point of that the other day! And then I saw mistakes being made because of the speed! Yes! The other cow was flinching more! Nate- please do not let those who do not know of what they speak to pressure you to work differently! We love you for your precise and delicate work!

@@helmaschine1885 I am not a hoof trimmer or a farmer, but I think he should slow down a bit. I get very nervous at times on behalf of the cow! The other day, from the camera angle, I could see he had clearly touched the corium and the cow flinched. And it wasn't due to a newer injury where there wasn't a clearer separation. He had plenty of room to maneuver. He was just not taking the time to aim and lift that false sole. I almost wrote a comment- the opposite of what Nate got- "Please slow down! You have a whole team helping you!"- but I stopped myself. I understand that maybe a bull needs to get out quicker- the issue of that radial nerve. I wonder, though, when he has a huge queue of cows to get through, the pressure is greater to move faster, so easy for me, as someone said below, to be a keyboard warrior and be just like Nate's critic! I am glad I said nothing. The guy is a pro and needs to figure that out my himself. He obviously cares about the cows, as does Nate.

Also, I know Dairy cows aren't pets, I know they don't need humans for comfort, but I don't know how you work so quietly haha. I am constantly comforting patients or giving them praise.

I love to see the relief on the cows' faces at the end. As an ex vet-tech, I can't stand watching those "faster" farriers butcher their way through the cows. Thank you, Nate, for giving each animal the care and respect it deserves.

I always appreciated how much care and precise work you do on these cow hooves. I've seen other channels and they just hack away without much care. A cow is going to be more adverse to entering a shoot when it's a place they experience pain. It's better that he's gentle. The cow is just chilling.
@user-xm1od9nb1m2 ай бұрын
Ive never seen anyone ”hack away without care”. I feel like different cows have different hoof hardness depending on the bedding theyre on. Sometimes when the hoof is hard it looks like ”hacking” bc they have to put more preassure behind the knife, not that theyre doing anything wrong or not being careful
@maggsbufton19694 ай бұрын
One thing I’ve noticed about all the hoof trimmers in the UK and USA is that you all have a strong fondness of the cattle you treat and therefor have great compassion and concern for their stress and comfort. I’ve often wondered, what does a cow think when she is in the crush?

Regarding the person who told you to work faster…. I’ve seen a few videos of hoof trimmers who do the “faster, faster, FASTER” routine and the work they do on the hoof is noticeably below average. Even I can spot the raggedy edges and damage to the corium that speed causes. Very happy to hear (and see) that you don’t play that game and instead you do it the right way.
