Super fun to see you visiting my home town! I normally climb at Trondheim Buldresenter (and yes, I just saw that you have a video from there as well, I'm definitely watching that next!), and my experience bouldering at Grip is always as if the setters there just speak a different language than what I'm used to, if that makes sense. They use the same tape color grading system, and AFAIK they're supposed to be roughly equivalent in terms of grade, but every time I go to Grip I go from a solid blue tape (occasional but rare red tape) climber, to a "I can't read the beta of this green tape and can't even start most blues, what's happening?" climber. I definitely recognize a lot of your frustration, but I also think it's super interesting just in terms of being challenged in a broader set of skills and abilities!

Happy to hear that I'm not the only one who feels like this. Really want to go back soon, was such a great place though!

It’s always fun to go check out a new gym with different walls, holds, styles of setting, etc. Those definitely looked like hard V3s 😮 But great climbing and thanks for bringing us along on your session 👍🏻👍🏻

Nice climbing! Not sure if ya saw the grades for the tapes, but I can list them up for you. Yellow: 3A - 4C (VB - V0) Green: 4B - 6A (V0 - V3) Blue: 5C - 6B (V2 - V4) Red: 6A+ - 7A (V3 - V6) Black: 6C+ - 7B+ (V6 - V8) White: 7B - 8B (V8 - V13) They try to make it so that going from one tape to another isnt a drastical change in grade, thats why they overlap, and progress will be easier 💪

Wow! Thank you for sharing the grades. Makes sense that it's overlapping, most of the blue ones felt much more like 6b than 6a. I feel much better now 🤩😍👊

i really hate these grading scales Like if you're novice and climb 3 usually and 4 on a good day, then you can get completely shut down on a tough blue, flash an easy red, and then be potentially years away from breaking in to the Black scale. Completely waste your time trying to progress through there when you dont actually have any clear and linear progression, its just a mystery

@@jkel8319 I kinda disagree, the tapes Yellow to Blue should be significantly easier than what it is today, so more casual climbers can actually climb more. And for the routesetter, tapegrades are easier than actual grades, since it differs alot from short to tall person. But after you've climbed in a gym with color grades, you will feel the difference between a hard and easy blue quite easily 💪 But we shouldnt care too much about the grades, find those cool climbs and try them even if it has black tape

@jkel8319 I feel kind of the same, but I also see the value on focusing less on the grades. Still feels confusing though 😬

@Wibbzter I think this is the real climbing spirit. Just go for the boulders that give you joy and forget the grading part 👊🤩

I used to live in Trondheim and this was my climbing gym! I was never (and I am still not) good at climbing so it was frustrating at times because even easy grades were hard for me.

Nice, I really liked this gym. Would love to spent more days here 😍🤩 But yeah, felt hard 🫠

Warning: beta spray You're right, a new gym means new setting, which means a new (and likely unfamiliar) style of climbing. It looks like where you got stuck on the V3s were all mistakes of footwork and body position. On the last blue one, for example, I think you kept swinging out left because your left foot was too low and you had too little oppositional force to stop the barn door. Happens to us all, totally normal, it's part of the learning process

Wow, thanks, really useful insight and tips. Will work more on my footwork for sure! And also read the holds better to understand best possible body positioning. Easy to forget when you're stoked 😍 Thank you, really appreciated 👏
