If I had to guess, I'd say she was one of three things in the past. A traceur, a pole vaulter, or a gymnast. Whatever she was, she's crushing it on the wall for three years in, really good at the modern coordination problems as well :O

A bit late to the party here, but super cool to see you at my home gym! Felt really weird to recognize a lot of the boulders you were climbing - I knew I could have fond memories of specific boulders, but it was still a strange experience to have those through someone else's youtube video. You're definitely much stronger than me on the overhangs, that's for sure - I did a few of the ones you did there, but some of the harder moves towards the end of the video felt out of reach to me, so kudos for doing those and making it look easy! Now, to be fair to your friend, the rental shoe rack by the entrance definitely makes the immediate experience of coming into the gym kinda stinky, but it's much better further in! I mean, it still smells of stale chalk, rubber and dust, and as you say when it's hot outside it gets *super* hot inside, but it's so much cozier and friendlier in terms of atmosphere than Grip, at least in my experience. Hope to see you back again!

Super fun to see you visiting my home town! I normally climb at Trondheim Buldresenter (and yes, I just saw that you have a video from there as well, I'm definitely watching that next!), and my experience bouldering at Grip is always as if the setters there just speak a different language than what I'm used to, if that makes sense. They use the same tape color grading system, and AFAIK they're supposed to be roughly equivalent in terms of grade, but every time I go to Grip I go from a solid blue tape (occasional but rare red tape) climber, to a "I can't read the beta of this green tape and can't even start most blues, what's happening?" climber. I definitely recognize a lot of your frustration, but I also think it's super interesting just in terms of being challenged in a broader set of skills and abilities!

One tip I have for you Kristine is to work on your body tension. Being loose is often good, but many problems require a lot of core work and lock off strength in order to send them. You have a very loose and dynamic style, which is really great for many type of climbs, but the further you get up the grades, the more body tension plays a significant role. I think this is something you can improve on for sure. Also thanks for yet another fun and entertaining video!
@KristineClimbs

Thank you so much for taking time to give me tips, really appreciate it! I know you're right about this one. I never really pay attention to mye core, just rely on my arms (and sometimes feet) to do the work. My question is: How do you train to improve this skill? Is it enough to be aware about it when you climb, or do you do like specific drills or exercises. Thanks again <3
@gunnaruppstad3574
@gunnaruppstad3574 Ай бұрын
The short answer: train the pulling muscles of your upper body, they are important not just for reach, but also to move tension in the right direction into the foothold. Train your obligues, they're important for weight shifts, balance and flagging. Pair those with climbing specific, on the wall core drills that are 'closed chain' and targets your posterior chain (walk your feet across different footholds, some incut where you claw your toes in, some smeary where you engage your back and shoulders to give your feet an opposing base to push against) and hip flexors (intentionally cut loose, then bring feet back on hold, see how far to the sides or down you can get before the extension becomes too difficult, and then get repetitions somewhere close to that failure point). It's important that the drills are closed chain for strength transference, traditional open-chain core exercises are not going to give the same benefits because of lack of coordination and specificity. Best of luck:)

Hey, good video! I climbing just 2.5 years, can climb around 6b-6c. I always warm up before climbing: few minutes of joints rotations, stretching, sit ups and different body bends in all direction. Maybe few pull ups, maybe little fingers warm up. So like 15-20 minutes to warm up and only after I'll do warm up climbing. But I just about half year was climbing alone, after that I only go to my gym to climb in groups with trainer, so, I guess, it helps a lot to really push forward, to help find weaknesses, some suggestions and answers from him.

Warning: beta spray You're right, a new gym means new setting, which means a new (and likely unfamiliar) style of climbing. It looks like where you got stuck on the V3s were all mistakes of footwork and body position. On the last blue one, for example, I think you kept swinging out left because your left foot was too low and you had too little oppositional force to stop the barn door. Happens to us all, totally normal, it's part of the learning process
@KristineClimbs

Nice climbing! Not sure if ya saw the grades for the tapes, but I can list them up for you. Yellow: 3A - 4C (VB - V0) Green: 4B - 6A (V0 - V3) Blue: 5C - 6B (V2 - V4) Red: 6A+ - 7A (V3 - V6) Black: 6C+ - 7B+ (V6 - V8) White: 7B - 8B (V8 - V13) They try to make it so that going from one tape to another isnt a drastical change in grade, thats why they overlap, and progress will be easier 💪

i really hate these grading scales Like if you're novice and climb 3 usually and 4 on a good day, then you can get completely shut down on a tough blue, flash an easy red, and then be potentially years away from breaking in to the Black scale. Completely waste your time trying to progress through there when you dont actually have any clear and linear progression, its just a mystery
@Wibbzter
@Wibbzter 2 ай бұрын
@@jkel8319 I kinda disagree, the tapes Yellow to Blue should be significantly easier than what it is today, so more casual climbers can actually climb more. And for the routesetter, tapegrades are easier than actual grades, since it differs alot from short to tall person. But after you've climbed in a gym with color grades, you will feel the difference between a hard and easy blue quite easily 💪 But we shouldnt care too much about the grades, find those cool climbs and try them even if it has black tape
