In my country, we don't have a prom as well but we do have a bunch of parties throughout the year hahhadh (most are not in the school and none have any adults overseeing and there's alcohol so you will see drunk kids) you can't dress like this to them tho, they would make fun of you (probably), def not "black tie" events

I was a lifeguard at a waterpark in high school and we had “lifeguard awards” and were nominated for things like: best whistle, most punctual, quickest dummy saves, best laugh…. etc. We used to re-wear our prom dresses with crocs (because crocs were apart of our regular uniform) to the awards just so we could have fun & rewear the dress that you usually only wear one time. The guys all wore tuxedos too. It was a good time.

I'm a lifeguard as well and my pool does the "Willlie" awards which is a pun on the name of the pool, and the like 'mvp' LG of the summer gets the "Wet Willie" lol. Its very fun. everyone else gets their own personal willie and its very fun and we go swimming after.
@teamarie1238 ай бұрын
Omg I was a lifeguard, but we didn’t do awards like that, but we had lifeguard Olympics where the different crews competed to see who would get 1st-4th place. It always had a theme though so maybe one year they would do something like that. There were themes like marvel vs dc, Disney, avatar, and it was always a lot of fun. It was basically a competitive in service.

I grew up in a thrift store!! My mom started it when I was 5 and she ran it until she passed so over 40 years! Generations grew up in her store, both shopping and bringing in clothes to sell. We news of her death (wreck, loooong story) hit my hometown, people wrote notes and memories all over the windows of her store 💖. She was posthumously awarded the state good neighbor award. I grew up the best dressed kid in school. Also, fluffy girls, I am a fluffer and yes, there isn’t as much, but there are treasures out there!!

A really good friend GAVE me my prom dress! I showed her my inspiration pictures and she said she had worn something similar to homecoming the year before. It fit perfectly, and while it was a common style that year (pretty much a dark red version of the blue ballgown in the video), we saved so much time and money by going secondhand. So grateful for my friend's generosity and I love that dress still!!

Yes! Wedding dresses! My wedding dress wasn't thrifted, but it was second hand. It was my Grandma's in the 50s, my Mom wore it in the 80s, and I wore it in 2016. The only alteration I made was to remove the sleeves (mostly for sensory reasons). It was so gorgeous every time and worked for all three very different style weddings. What can I say, Grandma had some good taste.

I liked the 1st one you tried on the best. Pink shimmery is so pretty especially with your coloring. My daughter had a gorgeous prom dress for her senior prom in 2001! It was completely beaded with tiny beads all over. We saw it on the rack while looking thru the dresses at a specialty store and just passed it over cause it looked bad on the hanger. Then while getting ready to walk out the door after not finding anything we saw a dress on a mannequin that was GORGEOUS! Asked the saleslady if they had it in her size and she pulled out the one that looked bad on the hanger! She put it on and it was absolutely perfect! It looked nothing like it did on the hanger. So don't be afraid to try a dress on if it looks bad on the hanger. Some dresses look terrible until you actually put them on and you could be pleasantly surprised!

My mom will be gone a year on the 29th of April. It has gotten a little bit easier to remember all of our good times without crying. My brother and I miss her like crazy. She was my best and only friend. I like watching Mia and her mom. They are close like me and my mom were. But we were way crazier together lol. I'm also a fellow Canadian as she is. Remember the good times and let yourself go through all the natural emotions. Don't let anyone tell you some weird cliché like " chin up" or " it gets easier" or something like that. Prom dresses where I am are $600-1200 cad new, thrift stores start at $125 and private preowned start at $300. I graduated in 2003 and my sample dress (only one available in a size 2 at the time) was $320 plus tax and $80 for alterations. Just over 2 years later my wedding dress (also a sample) was $450+tax and bartered childcare for alterations. My sister "needed" 3 prom dresses for high school and spent $300, $470 and $825 plus alteration costs for each and her wedding dress was a little over 3k all in.

I bought a $600 Jovani dress for $110 on Poshmark for my prom! And the best thing about it was it was already altered for my height, so we didn’t have to pay to hem it. My younger sister did the same thing, and she got a prom dress for $13!! Also, online thrifting tends to have so many more options than in-person thrifting, as long as you know your measurements ahead of time. Just a suggestion for people who may not have a lot of options at their local thrift store.

My friends and I had a tradition where we would go to the thrift store for the school dances (homecoming, snowball, etc.) to find our dresses. While there, we would also pick out the weirdest/ugliest dresses we could find and we would have to try them on and model them for each other. It was so much fun! We did end up getting our prom dresses at a discounted rate from a store, but we felt okay doing that since all our other dresses were purchased second-hand.

The red dress with the too-high-split could be saved by putting red sequined shorts under. That would make it very dance friendly, as well. Also, for the dresses that plunge, you can use double-sided clothing & body tape to keep it in place.
