Inconsistent sizing is THE red flag that these items are poorly made in a facility that doesn’t cultivate or compensate for craftsmanship. I can’t even imagine all the returns they have to process. I’m happy the red set worked out at least because you deserved a win!
@sarahwenger4479 Жыл бұрын
Inconsistency with clothing is one of my pet peeves because they could easily make it better by cutting the clothing in smaller batches instead of stacking a bunch of pieces of fabric and having the blade shift as it cuts down so each piece in that stack will fit slightly different. Just do more cuts on smaller piles. With the amount of profit these brands are making, it would be so easy. But they choose more profit over the actual quality of the product and it’s so frustrating

My mom worked in a dress factory decades ago. When they had a quota, supervisors would push them to sew in whatever tag they needed to meet the quota to whatever size they made. If the garments are being made in less than stellar accomodations, they might just be grabbing a tag and sewing it in.
@Julianaao2601 Жыл бұрын
🥴 it makes so much sense now!
@blaireshoe8738 Жыл бұрын
I was thinking, the Quality Control at the factory handling the fleece items seems worlds better, ensuring the labels matched the items. The items that didn't fit were all made in another country, another factory, and clearly have different QC practices. Your quota comment makes a lot of sense, that they are still actually a size that they sell, just with the wrong tag, so it's just XLs and other sizes being labeled as smalls as opposed to them just making wildly differently sized smalls. Any way you slice it it's a sign of poor management at best and unethical worker conditions at worst.
@flow8eraleutica Жыл бұрын
This is so true. This is just a sign of worker abuse and unreal quota. I literally got fired for not meeting unrealistic quotas. Everyone in that favotory were miserable and sick and worked even breathing in fumes of burning oil from machines bc they can't stop or they wont meet the quota fuck the textile industry. I’m from Mexico and my mom grew up working in the clothing manufacturing industry. She recently told me that when she was 14 she had worked a 12 hour day and was really looking fwd to going home when the “managers” told her she couldn’t go home because they were going to pull an all nighter to meet the quotas. She tried to refuse and mentioned how she was so sleepy and didn’t think she could do it so THEY DRUGGED HER!!!. I was so sad for my mom when she told me this story and my heart broke. I couldn’t believe that they drugged a 14 year old child after working her for 12 hours straight just too meet these companies’ quotas. She says that once she was drugged she was so scared to have the needles go thru her fingers because she didn’t feel in control of her body, she had the jitters and all sorts of other bad things. And I’m pretty sure my mom was barely making enough money to buy food, nothing extra. (And I’m also sure it was a very basic diet like eating rice and beans most of the time) These companies truly need to be held accountable because to this day my aunt still works in this industry and she makes $3 a shirt MAX, often less. And when I’ve gone into stores like Macys I can’t find a t shirt for less than $45. So what happens to the other $42?! But to see the amount of work and time my aunt puts into making these clothes for that much money is truly sad. Plus, some companies refuse to pay her if she doesn’t finish the quota on time, they take all the clothes that are already made but don’t pay her or if they are “nice” they only pay her half the money. My aunt gets no sick days so if she gets sick or has a family energy that slows her down she already knows she’s not getting paid for the work she has already done. Thank you for all that you promote Mia! 🫶🏽

So I went to check out their size chart, because as a plus sized woman, most things are not what they should be. For me, on the plus end, I usually wear a 2x or 3x depending on measurements. KHY's 4x is about 10 inches too small for me, so nothing they make would fit me. I would say that their sizing is just waaaaaaay off because they didn't have enough difference in between sizes. So their XXS probably should be a small and then skew the rest of the sizes up to actually match what they should be. A lot of brands do this to pretend like they're size-inclusive without actually being size-inclusive.

There is also one whole size missing completely between L and XL (there is a 4" gap between the end of one range and start of the next range).

@@carnifaxx i just noted this in my own comment (though @ksicheneder, you and i have quite different experiences while shopping other brands, it seems! let me know where you shop, i'm tired of being too big for items when khy's XL are my exact measurements) but it looks like they skipped a true XL (the 5" gap you noticed) and went right for 1X, labeling it XL instead. a lot of people think those two sizes are the same, but they aren't, and that's the discrepancy here!

@@carnifaxx i know you weren't saying that, i was adding that information for you! i am saying that size is, genuinely, missing. that 5' gap is supposed to be covered by the XL size, and is instead skipped over for their XL size to be equivalent to a 1X. i said i noted it in my comment already, so it was an observation i already made, separate from reading your comment! i just thought you'd like to know that range missing is for that reason. everything else seems fairly consistent with... how do i say this? more generous? sizing in the US. however, most brands i run into lean far smaller, which is why i was asking @ksicheneder where they shop, as our experiences in sizing seems to differ a lot! (i am, for instance, a 1X in certain target clothes, but shopping online often sets me in the 3XL range, and it's near impossible to sense which listings will be in which size ranges)

The reason the sizing was off for items in the second collection is because that collection was a "collaboration" with Entire Studios - a brand that already exists and has been extremely popular within the fashion crowd. Kylie's collab with them was basically them giving her their designs and letting her produce her version at a fast fashion price and quality level, and add her label. Entire Studios is unisex and their small is a men's small, their medium is a men's medium, etc. I suspect no one on Kylie's team caught that detail, that they needed to adjust the size labels to fit their own brand's size chart.

Mia, as a Canadian who lives in one of our snow places, you're also qualified to judge the puffer coats. It's -23 with a windchill of -32 in Winterpeg today, and I hope that you and your loved ones are warmer than I am here, I've got my oven on to stay warm enough. At least it stopped snowing!

We Canadians need real coats. The functional kind, not the kind just for show. It's -38c with chill in Edmonton today. And people still need to go to work.

I’m actually really happy you’re taking a stronger stand on the ethics of the brands you review. Ngl I was a bit wary of your channel before when it was just a bunch of hauls without much focus on the ethics but you’ve really grown in that department! Thank you for your transparency

Honestly 😩 I’m a fashion designer & handmake latex clothing, I feel bad charging £2-500 for an extremely intricate item that can take me days to make, to a customer’s measurements and kylie Jenner is Churning out unoriginal S^*T made in China for half that price and calling it affordable 😂 same with skims and their latex line. It was extremely offensive for her as a latex wearer to be selling latex at that price. (It was basic and boring at best though)
@kinleymarie7x Жыл бұрын
I wish people who had enough money to shop on brands like KHY and Skims would just pay people like you to make better quality, ethical, and custom clothes. Like it would be the same price or maybe even less?? Rich people suck lmao.

I have worked in fashion manufacturing here in LA for well over 10 years and I can tell you... the mark up on theses types of items can exceed 500%+ profit margins, depending on the type of item... and that's for a small name business at that. I can imagine her mark up is wayyy over that :(

Mia, it has been so lovely to see your channel continuously promoting thoughtfulness (about fashion, but also life in general). I am so overwhelmed with the world nowadays and it feels good to be reminded that sustainability and equity is possible in these areas. we should never let these brands make us lower our standards! our earth, people, and closets deserve better! 💖💞💝💗💕

I saw the ad and would never buy it myself but i was soooo interested to see what you had to say Mia and you did not disappoint. The fact that they can put these “labels” out there as money grabs like this is honestly sickening. To a. Not be good materials b. Still be really expensive c. Not have a good fit and d. Not even be the right size????? At the very least even if you buy clothes on shein or other terrible sites you get the size you order. Its revolting and im glad you called them out!

hi mia! thank you so much for reviewing brands with their sustainability transparency. as someone who lives in a developing countries, it’s a very common occurrence for brands to outsource production to us and most of it is not ethical at all 😬 (e.g underpaid workers, no health or insurance cover, overworking their workers etc)

It’s so fun hearing you talk about fashion production! You can really hear how much you have learned! I work in fashion as a pattern maker for a big company in Sweden. For these clothes you can really see that they have issues controlling the sizing probably due to poor quality control. It is expensive to reject clothes that measure out of tolerance from your measurement chart so for there companies they just approve whatever. But if you want to build credibility for a company you really need to be consistent with your sizing! Anyways thank you for another fun video!

I’m pretty cautious about fabrics due to how sensitive I am to how fabric feels and that I like to wear clothes for years (I literally have a skirt I got over 5 years ago that I still wear). Faux leather is not a material that normally lasts long so I prefer to just avoid it if possible with clothes. I’d suggest thrifted and/or vintage leather if you want something that’s sustainable that’ll last. On sizing I’d say pretty much all of the pants would not fit me with Length, I’m 5’1. Pants from brands that have no sizing issues are too long for me.

I love that you talk about the fabrics, probable labor ethics, and sustainability, and directly call out the insane profit margin. Fabric is now #1 on my list of what I filter out before I even look at the design, I'm fed up with wearing sweaty polyester. (Also what was up with the diaper shorts? They look bad on a thin girl and a thick girl, what's the point)

Also, I believe the crotch diamond is a gusset. It's just extra fabric meant to provide more room if you need it. You sometimes find them in the armpits of really fitted tops to allow the arms to move without compromising the silhouette.
