When I was in the U. S. Marine Corps in 1976, I came out to a guy who I was friends with, another Marine. He was, and is, straight, and said he could not reciprocate those wants and wishes, but that I was a really good friend. That's nearly 50 years ago, he's on his second marriage now, we live 1,000 miles apart, but talk to each other on a weekly basis. The risks you don't take are the ones you'll never know what might have come from. It is really nice how some young fellows like you are so open to sharing intimate details of your lives like this. Good for you. I'm an 85 year old gay guy who supports your mature views on relationships. When I was your age there was no way to do what you've done without suffering severe consequences from family, friends and school mates. In fact, when I was your age what I am and what I felt was ILLEGAL with fines and even jail time if caught and convicted. My partner & I are celebrating our 48th year together this year. All that said, there are potholes in the roadway of life. Try as you might to avoid them, it's almost a certainty you'll land in one or more. They hurt. But you'll survive. Good luck!

I just wish that the Gay world of today, particularly amongst young people, had more respect for my generation; because, in truth, if it weren't for the suffering and pain gay men - I'm not dissing Lesbian Women here as that was never illegal in the UK - of my generation, older and dead endured, they wouldn't be able to enjoy today's freedoms. I had a good life and if I passed away now I would hold no regrets, my place in time is special to me, and there are many kids who still face prosecution. The difference is they have less freedom unlike you and I which we can make decisions for ourselves now. It's not all bad and I love all the anime, music, and moments I had in life back then when I was a teenager. Some parts of the taboo also make it more exciting as it's forbidden love. There is something poetic about that

I've heard people say that an online friendship or relationship isn't a "real" relationship because you're not in the physical presence of that person, and what they may say online may not be a lie or disingenuous. Well, at the risk of stating the obvious, people lie "in person," "IRL" as well. Anyone can be deceptive under any circumstance. Some of the best friendships I've ever had have been online ones. And yeah, I agree with what Leon said about "falling in love with their mind" and not being distracted by their physicality. It is, in a way, a purer kind of friendship or relationship because all that's left are your and their thoughts and feelings. Looks are, to some extent, novel, and novelties lose their appeal quickly. It's when you have good chemistry with a person's character and personality, and their thoughts and feelings when you have something that lasts. Looks fade. But a person's heart and soul lasts a lifetime.

There's this girl at my school, who's new this year. After the first week of school, we became friends after talking in one of our classes. I gave her my number, and we started texting. We found out that we have a lot in common and I learned a lot about her. It's been about a month since we became friends and we've evolved to besties. We're a lot more physical now, hugging and leaning on each other. A little bit of context, I came out to my friend group as a lesbian last year, and now this year, I'm not trying to hide it. This girl I'm talking about knows that I'm lesbian and has clearly expressed that she supports. However, a little bit ago she came out to me as bisexual or a lesbian (she's not sure which yet). Now I've started to develop a crush on her. I'm really scared because I really like her and our relationship and I don't want to screw it up. I really want to tell her how I feel, but I'm scared that it's too early and that it'll just create a mess. Also, I'm closeted non-binary (which means I'm not technically a lesbian), and I'm afraid that even if she expresses the same feelings that when I eventually come out, that'll mess things up as well. But the thing is, she's been dropping hints and I think she might be into me too. But maybe I'm just being delusional and she doesn't like me that way. Anways, I don't know what to do!!! This is incredibly sweet and I hope the both of you stand the test of time! When I was about twelve or thirteen I started online dating my best friend. I never even knew what he looked like. The “romance” didn’t last long between us and nothing even really changed in our relationship aside from the fact that we started saying “I love you” which we kept doing even after breaking up. I lost contact with him about six years ago and have never forgiven myself. I think of him all the time and wonder where he is in life. I won't say I'm not a lil jealous of him but I'm happy you have a chance at something real! I had a long distance relationship with a guy in the Philippines over a couple years time - smart, funny, attractive with an absolutely adorable smile (though a little heavier than I usually go for,) and schooling to become a nurse. Things ended because he couldn't deal with the long distance and ended up dating someone from Australia who was able to afford to fly there and be with him occasionally. It was heartbreaking though I understood. Flights from the US to the Philippines isn't exactly value priced lol I pray you have a good relationship that lasts a lifetime. You deserve it.
