Hey Buckin, just want to let know that I‘ve just bought an vintage axehead online and will now look for a nice piece of wood to shape a handle for it. It’s all your fault! Can’t stop watching your videos and I don’t even own a power saw. BTW: nice drum playing, I play saxophone for a living. Let me share a quote from Goethe, the famous German poet: He who does not love music does not deserve to be called a human being; He who only loves her is only half a person; But whoever does it is a whole person.

My guess is you scabbed the bark off the tree with an axe because on the side of the road it's probably full of sand from plowing and it's going to dull the chain and the fun is over.
@keithrayeski6417

Yep, it could but more so…I think, all that bark, when you put your wedge in, your not gonna get lift because your under just thick soft bark…not the meat of the tree that will give you lift. Before you know it, the tops settling back because you got nothing lifting it the other way. That’s my thinkin..

I would say that tree tree moved a minimum of 6 ft at the top maybe 8ft. Love your formulaic thinking and mapping out the motions of the trees. Your cervical spine must be well oiled and flexible after looking up so much. When i had neck problems my chiropractor told me to look at the sky to reestablish the cervical curve. My neck problems caused my hip to be 2 inches out of place with severe lumbar pain. Thought i was going to be crippled for life but the cervical curve was realigned and low back and hip problems were resolved. 💪🤓👍 Ride the Ball Stay safe Stay strong Be kind

If the distance from back of tree where wedge is to the hinge is 15 inches, a 100 ft tree would move 6.7 ft, 10 inches to the hinge is 10 ft assuming the tree is rigid, but if the tree bends some as it moves to the fall then it'd be more or less depending on the bend direction, say if limbs are holding it back... 😉

If your backcut was 18" to the hinge, then the top would move 5.5 feet with each inch of wedging. looks like you may have had 2" of stacked wedges, so the top moved 11 feet before it broke the hinge. I'm a surveyor and math is fun, be it flat on the ground along a property line or vertical up a tree trunk, all the same. Love ya, Buckin.

So I'm only at 8:33 but I'll finish. I always do. But being impatient by nature, I had to go ahead, you responded to me yesterday. "I wish I was there" was the beginning of your reply. I agree. I wish you were. But as you say, you don't recommend back cut first in residential areas until you have it down. Now I've done it recently over powerlines, but today I had the customers son, in the sun room, where the tree was most heavily leaning and honestly, I had to ask him, a seven year old, to go to another room to watch what I was doing in case something went wrong. At that point, I had to re-evaluate my confidence. I took another step back and my tag line was NOT 100% opposite the lean. More like 70%. Now I've been to tree felling camp, done the ISA cert, been doing this 6 years. And well, watched maybe 95% of your videos in that time span. Stopped, rewound, rewatched, slowed down things on your channel and vids and buckin, it wasn't right today. I ended up spending the day cleaning up yesterdays solo climb work, instead of continuing to take down trees because you told me yesterday-opposite. I know what you meant, there's a lake right next to this house with no 'opposite' available. So I have to climb and rig to reweight this tree for a fall. But good lord, it's an oak with root swell, so probably some rot in the center, and half my holding wood may be gone, once I'm in it. I've seen your vids with those and how to manage post felling. But for a real bang, posts just don't cut it. You don't know how much I hear your voice, and reg coates voices in my head daily. But for falling it's you of course, and I'm so grateful you replied to me yesterday. 2 extra hours of rigging and climbing is better than a lifetime of regret cause I didn't double-check the tag/pull line angle. Love man. So much figgin appreciation for you. Btw buying a 7310 echo tomorrow. Saw your comparison. They aren't bad. So I'ma get one. My huskys are in the shop at the moment. Thank you for taking the time to respond to me yesterday.
