Like others have said, you miscalculated your true outs on the 68h hand...but I don't mind an occasional gamble. For me, it keeps the game fun ~AND~ it can lead to potential action in the future when you've got your opponents putting their money in drawing dead because they have the wrong image of you. Love the channel and content! Cheers!

I find that gutshot draws to broadway require a few conditions to be profitable: 1) You need to be playing deep with your opponents (who cares if you hit it but can't get stacks for hitting) 2) It needs to be disguised (AK as two overs can be a little obvious, especially with pre-flop action) 3) Your opponent needs to have a strong holding or be in a big bluffing mood/think you're full of air. Ideally the gutshot would hit them too. I think you played the AQ hand perfectly: if they check, it's not likely they have a flush draw or KJ. You had air, but it came off as AK or a nut flush draw/strong combo draw based off the pre-flop action. Not sure what your image is like at these tables, but that is a factor as well. Just my two cents; liking the content so far!

Hi Cato! I'm the mad hatter who was sitting next to you at ATX last night. It's was nice talking to you. As promised, I've clicked the subscribe button. :-) Since you say you want to grow, here's some constructive criticism. This is stuff I know theoretically but I'm only just getting around to being able to apply in the heat of the game, so I know how hard it is. I imagine that doing this while you're also trying to manage the camera makes it even harder. 8h6h hand: You have already heard that you counted your outs poorly. I'll go a step further. This should be your thought process: Flush and OE (double gutter) straight outs is 15 outs. (You shouldn't even need to be saying 9 flush outs plus 8 straight outs minus two overlap is 15. Just know this one. Also, just know the next step.) So 15-to-31 odds (or 15/46 chance, whichever you're more comfortable with) which is a touch worse than 2-to-1. You make the comment that you've been criticized for not being aggressive enough, so you decide to make the call since it is only a little worse than 2-to-1 pots odds. This is terrible in 3 ways! First, that's not being more aggressive, that's being more GAMBOL. Aggression is where you are the bettor and forcing the other guy to make a tough decision. If he had checked and you shoved, THAT would have been a good (well, OK), aggressive move, because in addition to the pots odds, you'd have fold equity. Obviously, calling an all in bet means you have zero fold equity. Second, the shortcut for turn outs is that 15 outs is just shy of 2-to-1, as we calculated above. HOWEVER, that's only if they are 15 clean outs, and these are not. As you mention, if you're facing a better flush draw, you might be looking for pair and straight outs, so that's only 12 outs. Even worse, though, is that AhJh, KhJh, QhJh, JhTh are all in his range, which would mean you're looking at your straight outs only, so 6 outs. Ick. You have zero showdown value, just those outs. Again, ick. Third, the rule of thumb of 15 outs for a 2-to-1 call only applies if there is some implied odds when you hit. And that 2-to-1 is a hard stop, the point you need to be BETTER THAN, not the target that being close is good enough. For a 31-to-15 pots odds call, you are even (if your outs are clean), so there's no point in making the call. If it were exactly those odds, it would just represent increasing your variance for an EV-neutral play. Since your actual call is a little worse than 2-to-1, you are a dog and you really need implied odds. However, he is all in, so there is no implied odds. This should have been an easy fold.

That JJ hand you need to bet smaller on the river and try to induce him. He knows you will basically never have a flush when you bet flop and check turn. So if you make it look like you're going for super thin value on the river (betting like $80) then you might get looked up light or, even better, raised by a bluff.

86s is a nice button hand and multi-way hand. And like Tom Dwan says, it's hard not to call pre-flop with any 2 cards when you're getting 4 to 1 or better. Limping is perfect and raising once in a while is ok too, since if you only limp with suited connectors and one-gappers like that you may as well just turn your cards face up. When you turned the double gutter you had 15 outs...the 9 flush cards plus the 3+3=6 non-flush cards that make a straight. So on the turn you are roughly 15 x 2 = 30% to hit, and need about 2 to 1 odds to call. You had slightly less that. You generally want slightly better pot odds than the math dictates so you can consistently profit over the long haul. It's ok to slow down in big decisions like that and make sure you're getting the correct odds to call. What's nice is since the other players folded, your calling closed the action, so you didn't have to worry about someone else behind you opening the pot back up with a raise. Playing hands like that in position, and especially on the button, can be very profitable!

I dont want to backseat poker, but I personally believe that for the AK hand at 9:33, you should have c-bet, given that u are in position and you have a hand that has a chance to improve. Against a better player like the guy UTG, you should not show weakness by checking behind, as as seen later, he bets $40 to throw u off ur premier hand. This is just a tip, thanks for reading thru.

I'll go through the math for the 8 6 hearts hand for anyone who is interested. 52 card deck, 46 unknown after the turn is exposed. 15 outs. 15/46 = 32.6%. This is a $420 call. But that's assuming best case scenario. You have fewer outs vs set of 2 or 5. Higher flush draws. Made straights. J6. Drawing dead to Jx of hearts. I might make this call for 300, definitely not 470
@Jobysworld
@Jobysworld 3 жыл бұрын
Few things. On the pocket 2s hand, you played the hand perfectly fine, but you said "I need to raise for protection" that is not why you're raising. A set doesn't necessarily need protection, the point of the raise is to get value out of draws and worse hands. A big misconception in low stakes is that you need to push players out of the hand so you can win rather than getting maximum value when they miss. 2. The 6 8 hearts, you had the correct odds up until the river in which you're no longer getting the correct odds to call. Calling off is not what people mean by "you're playing too passively" calling is actually a passive option in itself. What they're saying is you should be betting draws and raising with combo draws more.

@@downwithputinsaveukraine1313 This one feels pretty close, but with no chips behind, I think it's a fold. We have 8-high, so even hitting a pair has pretty much zero chance of winning (if it does, then we're against a stronger flush draw, killing some of those 15 outs). I don't think it's a catastrophic call, but when you're talking about being "more aggressive" (which is fine) calling all-in doesn't accomplish that goal. Be super careful not to overcount your outs. The probability (p) of A (straight) or B (flush) occurring is p(A) + p(B) - p(A and B). In this case, 8 + 9 - 2 = 15. You might also consider that your opponent has (an) out(s) locked up; here, an overpair containing a heart.

Your call on the river was very close. Your outs aren’t necessarily clean though. You actually had 15 outs. I think you’re double counting the outs for your straights. Plus, factoring in dirty outs, you probably had about 25% equity there. Not quite the odds you need. But one thing is clear, being profitable at 2/5 is very doable for your skill level, so long as you go into it not being scared money.

It’s definitely not bad etiquette. Slow rolling and cussing are bad etiquette. Making the decision to stay in your current seat is no different than the decision to move seats. I did like some plays you did but others like omg man but at least you admitted your mistakes, you learn from those, I thing I like to do is to pay cheap for info on da river on showdown even if u lose the pot you valuable info on that player even better if someone else pays for it 😆

Not trying to flame, but am I the only one that sees you stack your singles in between your reds and gets bothered? It'd probably tilt me trying to count your stack. Also my OCD kicks in and gets frustrated at having to move stacks just to grab more whites.

big fan but watched you play at the Lodge, that's a rough game also with 15 outs you definitely want to run it twice, play games you're comfortable at not because you can

8 outs to the straight + 9 outs to the flush = 15 outs, not 17. You're double counting 2 outs.
@bryancuellar9202
@bryancuellar9202 3 жыл бұрын
9+8=17, nothing wrong on maths there. The point was to realize that 2 outs were already taken by the flush so it is 9+6 which does give 15 outs

Half right. They can be very profitable in "their game", and if their post flop game is solid, limping may be a valid part if their strategy.
