Can’t tell which Denomination he’s from- only that he’s clearly a Believer in Christ. That, in itself, is SO HARD to pull off nowadays. Most usually need to, either insist their denomination is totally “Right” or every one else’s is somehow, “Wrong”.

I love that you can see the humor in religion. So often it seems to me that many people, especially Christians and Muslims, cannot bring themselves to see this side of the Creator or of the Creation. Good for you! As a Jew, I find your channel endlessly informative and fascinating - but also as a Jew I am culturally conditioned to see the funny side of all this too. But here's something else I've learned about Christians and Muslims: Quite often, the clergy can laugh with it. It's only the congregants who are afraid to laugh with it or feel "wicked" doing so. And note that it's laughing with, not at. You get that. And you probably make it ok for your viewers to get that. We call that a great mitzvah - I'll translate that as "good work" but it falls far short. A mitzvah is a Commandment, a responsibility, a responsible act that brings Good into the world. A mitzvah is not only a good thing to do, it's a righteous and holy thing to do. It elevates the world, if only by a single notch, but doing it elevates the world. This is what you have done by modelling, as a pious and educated Christian, that it's OKAY to laugh when something in religion is funny. It is HEALTHY, in every sense of the word, and it's no accident that some call it "the best medicine." Remember, He sent an angel to tell Sarah that she would have a baby even though she was well past menopause and had been unable to conceive when younger; and Sarah laughed, and nothing bad happened to her. Because sometimes, the Creator is funny and when you hear something funny you laugh! Simple as that. And then she had the baby and named him "Laughter" (Yitchak, Isaac) - - - and tell me please, who had the last laugh there? Because I think it was all of them, laughing together.

At first when I saw the title it would be like one of those "which denomination fits your beliefs best" quiz type things that's more popular on personality quiz sites. Which can be fun too, to really think about if what you believe lines up with the church you go to, and makes you think about what you value.
@yahccs1 Жыл бұрын
It reminded me of that too, as I mentioned in my comment. Some denominations are not as narrow in beliefs but open to quite a wide diversity, so it's not so easy to measure. If we all had to go to our nearest church to save using fuel, that might make most people attend a different denomination, but they would be there with their neighbours not people from a long way away. How different the congregations might be. Maybe that might have to work when we run out of petrol, or if there is a "Nearest Church Sunday (or Saturday)" to encourage it from time to time. I go to my nearest church anyway but sometimes wonder about others... maybe there should also be a 'Visit a different church weekend" to see how the others do things.

So funny...last night, i looked up Free Methodist on your channel. I had been attending and totally love it! I had never been to a Methodist church and had no idea of what to expect. I think this particular church is the best that i have ever attended in my life, and i am an older , very older, adult. So, i thought after 6 months, it was time to double-check their beliefs and consider membership.. Then, today, the pastor started a series on the Free Mehodist Church...history and founding principles. Tah-dah! He began by asking how are they different from the many Christian churches all over this city. The answer was great and unifying not divisive. We, of course, have a common cause. It was not theological per se. Loved this video, thanks.

I enjoy your channel. I was saved through the Catholic Charismatic renewal movement 10/14/1969. Yes, I am old. Yes, I pray in the Spirit, tongues, although I currently identify as Missouri Synod Lutheran. A priest at a Charismatic conference told me that a person should only take communion at a church they totally agreed with theologically. After reading the Bible through three dozen times or so in over a dozen translations I have never met a denomination with I agreed with 100%. Lutheran is the closest which is why I am there. I would love to have you discuss the topic of whether one must agree totally with a denomination to be at home, and take communion, there.
@thomasmaughan4798 Жыл бұрын
"I would love to have you discuss the topic of whether one must agree totally with a denomination to be at home" IMO, you are worshipping God, not a church. There can be substantial differences with the other people at a church that in their way are also worshipping God. But "at home" means you have no significant differences that would start an argument with those around you. Some people can be very demanding to conformity with this or that.

@@Lorrainecats "don't feel like I belong anywhere." I have had that feeling most of my entire life. Where I most feel like belonging is by objective standards pretty sucky; but that's before I discovered only a couple of years ago that I'm substantially Scotch. Not the whiskey. I love stormy weather and dark clouds; sunshine makes me a bit anxious. Churches, even within a strongly hierarchical denomination where they ought all be the same, aren't the same and one congregation can be relatively welcoming and another just a few miles away I'm totally invisible since I'm not driving a BMW. Where I felt the most belonging isn't a lifelong choice I think; I loved going to church while I was in the Navy. Everyone there has made the choice and there's a lot less economic strata or inequality. To be sure, enlisted aren't even on the same ladder of equality as officers but that's just a fact of military life. That's one reason, maybe THE reason, Christianity does not insert itself into these facts of life; such as slavery in ancient days and military life (nearly the same thing) in modern times.

*Here's what OpenAI told me about the differences between the Philippine Independent Church and the Apostolic Catholic Church in the Philippines:* The Philippine Independent Church (PIC) and the Apostolic Catholic Church in the Philippines (ACCP) are both independent Catholic denominations that were founded in the Philippines in the early 20th century. However, there are some significant differences between the two churches: 1. Founders: The PIC was founded by Gregorio Aglipay, a former Catholic priest who led a movement to break away from the Roman Catholic Church. The ACCP was founded by Gregorio Lorenzo, another Filipino Catholic priest who was also a critic of the Roman Catholic Church. 2. History: The PIC has a longer and more established history than the ACCP. It was founded in 1902 and played a significant role in the Philippine Revolution and the struggle for Philippine independence. The ACCP was founded in 1922 and has a smaller following. 3. Apostolic Succession: The PIC traces its apostolic succession through the Old Catholic Church of the Netherlands, while the ACCP claims to be a continuation of the original Catholic Church. 4. Beliefs and Practices: Both churches share many beliefs and practices with the Roman Catholic Church, but they also have some differences. The PIC emphasizes the importance of social justice and has been involved in social and political issues throughout its history. The ACCP emphasizes the importance of spiritual renewal and Filipino cultural traditions. 5. Liturgy: The PIC has its own liturgical practices, which incorporate Filipino cultural elements. The ACCP also has its own liturgical practices, which it claims are based on the original Catholic liturgy. 6. Recognition: The PIC is recognized as a legitimate denomination by the Philippine government and is a member of the National Council of Churches in the Philippines. The ACCP is not recognized by the Philippine government or by the Roman Catholic Church. Overall, while both churches share some similarities, they also have distinct histories, beliefs, and practices that set them apart from each other.

*Here's what OpenAI told me about the Apostolic Catholic Church in the Philippines (ACCP):* The Apostolic Catholic Church in the Philippines (ACCP) is a small, independent Catholic denomination that was founded in the Philippines in the early 20th century. The ACCP claims to be a continuation of the original Catholic Church, and it seeks to uphold traditional Catholic teachings and practices while also incorporating elements of Filipino culture and spirituality. The ACCP was founded in 1922 by Gregorio Lorenzo, a Filipino Catholic priest who was a former member of the Roman Catholic Church. Lorenzo was a critic of the Roman Catholic Church's practices and believed that the church had become corrupt and had lost sight of its mission to serve the people. He founded the ACCP as an alternative Catholic church that would be free from what he saw as the corruption and influence of the Vatican. The Apostolic Catholic Church in the Philippines believes in the seven sacraments of the Catholic Church, including baptism, confirmation, the Eucharist, confession, anointing of the sick, marriage, and holy orders. It also has its own liturgical practices and traditions, which incorporate Filipino cultural elements. Today, the Apostolic Catholic Church in the Philippines is a relatively small denomination with a few thousand members. It is not recognized by the Roman Catholic Church or by the Philippine government, but it continues to have a presence in the Philippines and has some followers in other parts of the world.

Joshua, I like your videos. Even though I have a BS in Religion and attended a Seminary to get the MA in Theological Studies (MATS) and I am currently finishing a M.Div. with a focus on Christian Apologetics this question surfaced in a Disciple Path 1 class: What are the qualifications, if any, to administer Baptism and to administer Communion? You might want to explore this ad it first appears straight forward based on one’s denominational slant, however, the New Testament demonstrates that only select people administered Baptism and only select people administered Communion. That is, in the case of Baptism, John the Baptizer was appointed by God to do so. Apostle Paul gives the spiritual baptism to the twelve men who had only received John’s baptism of water (repentance) [Acts 19]. Another example is Phillip, a deacon of the Church, who baptized the Ethiopian Eunuch. In most cases, Baptism is followed by the mating on of hands, as with Paul and the twelve men mentioned in Acts 19. I look forward to your response on the issue of necessary qualifications to administer Baptism and Communion, assuming this is the case and not just anyone can administer the Ordinance or Sacrament (denominational terms used here).

*Here's what OpenAI told me about the differences between Protestants and Eastern Orthodoxy:* Protestantism and Eastern Orthodoxy are two branches of Christianity that have some similarities but also significant differences. Here are some of the key differences: 1. History: Protestantism emerged in the 16th century as a result of the Reformation, while Eastern Orthodoxy traces its roots back to the early Christian Church and has a history that predates the Reformation. 2. Theology: Protestantism and Eastern Orthodoxy have some theological differences. Protestantism places a strong emphasis on the authority of scripture, while Eastern Orthodoxy places more emphasis on the authority of tradition and the teachings of the church fathers. Additionally, Eastern Orthodoxy emphasizes the mystery of the faith and the importance of the sacraments, while some Protestant denominations place less emphasis on the sacraments. 3. Worship: Eastern Orthodox worship is centered around the Eucharist (communion) and liturgical prayers, while Protestant worship tends to be more focused on preaching and music. 4. Church structure: Eastern Orthodoxy has a hierarchical structure that emphasizes the authority of bishops and priests, while Protestant churches are often organized around a congregational model where each congregation is self-governing. 5. Liturgy: Both Eastern Orthodoxy and some Protestant denominations have liturgical traditions, but the liturgy of Eastern Orthodoxy tends to be more structured and formal, while the liturgy of Protestantism varies widely depending on the denomination and congregation. 6. Iconography: Eastern Orthodoxy places a strong emphasis on the use of icons (religious images) in worship and devotion, while Protestantism generally does not. It's worth noting that both Eastern Orthodoxy and Protestantism have many different denominations and traditions, so the differences between them can be more nuanced and complex depending on the specific denomination or tradition being considered.

A multiple choice quiz would be a lot quicker where you don't have to take time working out how to word the answers and type them. I once found one that works out what denominations (and other religions) you agree most with, and gives you percentages of how much you agree with each, but the Christian denominations were not that specific, just generally Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Mainstream protestant (liberal or conservative) and Seventh day adventist... liberal or orthodox Quakers, and lots of other almost-Christian or non-Christian religions. It was very interesting. A few of the questions were rather difficult (e.g. definitions of the trinity!) It's even more confusing doing the one one which political parties you agree most or least with. Every time I do that sort of quiz I get different results, as if none of the parties are that clear on what they stand for or against, and they are mostly moving towards a compromised middle where the policies get mixed up, and there's less distinction between them. Maybe because each party represents a wide variety of people with differing ideals and moral values.

The reason the program is so attached to "the main difference" questions is because they are more quantifiable compared to open ended questions. This really shows the limit of the software.

Interesting, that ChatGPT gave that response to Lutheran baptism. Most Lutherans would stress the importance of batism, but I've never met one that believed it was absolutely necessary. The only time it has ever come up, was when I first started dating my wife. Her mother (who has baptist roots) was concerned thinking that because I am Lutheran, I believe unbaptized Christians are not saved.

*Here's what OpenAI told me about the differences between Protestants and Oriental Orthodoxy:* Protestantism and Oriental Orthodoxy are two distinct branches of Christianity that have significant differences in their history, beliefs, and practices. Here are some of the key differences: 1. History: Protestantism emerged in the 16th century as a result of the Reformation, which was a movement that sought to reform the Roman Catholic Church. In contrast, Oriental Orthodoxy traces its roots back to the early Christian Church and has a history that predates the Protestant Reformation. 2. Theology: Protestantism and Oriental Orthodoxy have some theological differences. Protestantism places a strong emphasis on the authority of scripture, while Oriental Orthodoxy places more emphasis on the authority of the church fathers and tradition. Additionally, Oriental Orthodoxy places more emphasis on the unity of Christ's nature (miaphysite), while some Protestant denominations emphasize the duality of Christ's nature (dyophysite). 3. Worship: Protestant worship tends to be more focused on preaching and music, while Oriental Orthodox worship is centered around the Eucharist (communion) and liturgical prayers. 4. Church structure: Protestant churches are often organized around a congregational model, where each congregation is self-governing, while Oriental Orthodoxy has a more hierarchical structure that emphasizes the authority of bishops and priests. 5. Sacraments: Protestantism generally recognizes only two sacraments (baptism and the Lord's Supper), while Oriental Orthodoxy recognizes seven sacraments, including baptism, confirmation, Eucharist, confession, anointing of the sick, ordination, and marriage. It's worth noting that both Protestantism and Oriental Orthodoxy have many different denominations and traditions, so the differences between them can be more nuanced and complex depending on the specific denomination or tradition being considered.

Feel like Chatgpt is a bit off in its understanding of reformed vs Calvinist. All reformed folks are Calvinists, not all Calvinists are reformed. reformed is confessional, covenantal, and Calvinistic. Would you say I’m identifying that difference correctly?
@ReadyToHarvest Жыл бұрын
I think there's dispute on both sides of that equation though most conservative confessional Reformed folks would agree with you. There are liberal Reformed denominations (Like the United Reformed Church in the UK) that are not necessarily Calvinist, and there are people who claim the name "Reformed" that are not confessional (like some reformed Baptists) Other Reformed folk might have good justification to reject both of these as being "truly Reformed", but nevertheless they do use the name to identify themselves.

Take the matter entirely to God, he will not lead you astray! Confess your sins and pray for his help! Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: for every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? Matthew 7:7-11 KJV Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. James 4:8 KJV If I regard iniquity in my heart, The Lord will not hear me: Psalm 66:18 KJV Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
