For the food everywhere, that's rude. But in one hostel, I learned that I HAD to put the towel on the floor, otherwise they wouldn't renew it, so it felt weird. In some hostels, they even have a written instruction to do so, because some people don't do that naturally (and I am one of them) ^^

I wish more people were like you, not expecting someone else to clean up your mess. We once had friends that let their kids make a mess on the floor at restaurants and would say "The staff is paid to clean it up!" Just sad. I also love how you just go with the flow, understanding that things can just go wrong. As you said, it's how the crew handles issues, not the issues themselves, that matter.

A surprising number of people think that servers or bar staff are there to help with their kids. It's very strange. I'm happy to make a small kids drink off menu, get some pencils and paper or push through the kids meal to come earlier but that's about my limit. People expecting us to take homemade food and heat it up (health risk), chasing kids down when they run around or cleaning up huge messes is a big reason I don't work in hospitality anymore. I've had people ask me to take breast milk into the kitchen of busy restaurants to heat up multiple times. Like the chefs want to stop their work, clear all contamination and deal with that. Have a bowl of hot water instead. Sorry bit of a rant there 😅

Larry, I grew up in a family where almost everyone worked in restaurants. I can't help but pre-bus my tables, and I do tidy my room in hotels and on cruises. I'd rather the staff only has to worry about the essentials of their jobs, like replacing towels. I now work for a hospitality company and the tip I've gotten from the HR and Employee Relations execs I work with is to strip the bed right before I check out. It saves the housekeeping staff 10 to 15 minutes per bed by doing it - so I do it.
@TheMeloettaful2 жыл бұрын
@@suzannadannaTARDIS I worked in hotels/motels for 10+ years, and since then I always try to keep my room as tidy as possible. And at the end of my stay I'll gather up the trash, towels, and dirty linens. My family looks at me crazy for doing that while we are on vacation. But when you do that kind of work you understand how hard the work is for others. So I try to make it easier for the staff when possible. Same goes for restaurants when we are done eating putting all our plates together etc.

I am glad you tried Azamara. We love them. I have tried other lines and we keep gong back to Azamara. Small ship, quiet, attentive staff, fine food, coffee, wine and sodas are included, no tipping. The Hotel Director saw us, came running over----was it a girl or a boy? Security guard asking "Pictures, pictures". We had a grandson born the last day of an Azamara cruise and they remembered. Yes the shower is small and if that is the only real issue well, I can deal with it. The showers in the Spa area are available and there rarely is a wait. The advantage to a small ship is your room is not MILES away from any activity. They have the amenities of the larger ships but without the hordes of people and the noise. There is a free self service laundry and when you send laundry out, it comes back beatifully done (Celebrity washed my clothes and folded them and then SHOVED ;them back in the laundry bag leaving me with an unwearable Linen shirt). We do purchase the occasional top shelf drink or bottle of wine (which they will recork for you if not finished) and the cost is not that much. They went out of their way to assist me last year when I needed a wheelchair and could not walk distances. "Miss Sandie, you call us when you get to the port after touring in Singapore and we will come and get you". (Celebrity would only take up or down the gangplank, after that I was on my own). The staff is well trained, polite and if there is an issue, they are there to help.

I've had butlers a number of times on other lines, primarily NCL. The #1 perk for us is dining in the cabin. Order breakfast the night before and the butler will come in and set the table while you're still sleeping so when you wake up breakfast is already ready. Milk for kids, coffee, food, etc. all ready. Note: we only do this in 1- or 2- bedroom suites so there's a closed door between us and the butler. I also usually ask them to set up lunch in my room 3-4 times a cruise. We eat during our daughter's nap time so it's nice to have a full meal served in the cabin, or out on the balcony, rather than a rushed lunch in the restaurant with a sleepy/cranky child. Usually we don't make it to desert at dinner due to the child being fussy so we ask for desert to be sent to the room with the butler. Butlers can enter your room to deliver a desert or a snack, regular room service cannot enter your cabin so you must be there to receive it.

About the shower size. Back in 2005 we had a shower on the Island Princess that was 24" square. I had a tape measure and measured it. In addition it had a pole in one corner, I assume to hold on to if they sea was rough. Taking a shower required doing the hokey-pokey. "You put your right foot in, you put your right foot out, you put your right foot in and shake it all about...."

Cabin stewards who swoop in and clean your cabin as soon as you leave the room... those are the best! It's a sign of a really great cabin steward! Sadly, some cabin stewards just start with the cabins at one end of their section and clean them in order from one cabin to the next. I'm not a fan of that strategy. What you described with your cabin steward on Azamara was something to truly appreciate!

That bathroom might be smaller than the one I had in my crew cabin. Once I hit a rank where I had a private room (and private bathroom), I'd forgo the shower curtain entirely. I'd make sure there was nothing in the bathroom that didn't mix well with water, and then use the entire space.

In the navy I always had an inside cabin, below or at the waterline, that I shared with 59 other people, in bunks stacked 3 high. If i ever wanted fresh air and a nice view I would just go on deck an look at the beautiful ocean passing by. I always looked at my room as a place to sleep and shower, not at a place to sight see. I don't think I would mind an inside room, would feel as if I was re-living my younger years. But i could also see the advantage if you wake up next to a beautiful coast line out your window.

Our first cruise 40 years ago was an inside cabin. Some 20 cruises for me, many more for my wife & girlfriends that was a great cruise. It was great because they messed up our dinning. We requested late dinning & when boarding the ship they assigned us "Early" dining - ""6 AM""! I pointed this out on boarding the cruise ship. To my complete surprise when we went to dinner that 1st evening we were seated at the (Captain's) table - - - for the entire cruise! For a first cruise it was incredible not just for being at the captain's table every meal, but the port calls. The ship was very small in comparison to today's ships, but it was incredible. Every cruise that we have been on since we have had open balconies to enjoy the nightly sights, sounds & ocean breeze. I prefer that, but that first cruise will always be a favorite in my heart. Take a jump and enjoy a cruise. The longer the better. I swear 1 week is not enough. Go for two weeks at a time. You will not regret it~! PJ

In this video, Emma talks about her inside cabin on what used to be the Pacific Princess. We were actually the last people to occupy this exact cabin (7069) when the ship was the Pacific Princess. Our 2020 World Cruise was about half done when Princess did a global pause in operations due to Covid in March 2020. During the pause, the ship was sold to Aramara. Emma said the shower was nearly unusable for a person of her size - but I am at least twice her size and it worked fine for me. How dare she say anything bad about my favorite ship! It holds about 650 people - and it was perfect for World Cruises.

The problem with many of these cruise ships that they are older and refurbished. As you say it is very difficult to change once built, public rooms are easier, cabin layouts look to be almost impossible, soft furnishings less so. We were on Sky Princess a month or so ago, a brand new ship but even so some of the drawers were flimsy. You have to go with the flow and just enjoy the cruise.

Good cabin review Emma! You mention this ship was built in 1999 as Pacific Princess which I will assume is the ship that replaced the TV show "Love Boat" Pacific Princess that was TINY (20K tons) by today's cruise ship standards. The Azamara Onward is about 31K tons, so not a whole lot larger than before! Your cabin shows how far cruise ship cabins have come in overall size since the 1990's! What I am a little surprised at is Azamara being a "luxury" brand they would have combined two of those cabins into one much larger cabin with more room! Maybe the bulkheads prevent that, or it is still a passenger volume game, even for luxury cruise lines. I get the feeling watching your videos about this ship that it is more about the destinations than the ship itself.

The showers function quite well, you just have to figure out how to make them behave. I tend to wet the bottom of the curtain, then stick them to the side of the little wall. I then kind of step down on them to pull them tight and voila lots of room. We went on a 21 day btb 14 day cruise in cabin 7048 around South America December 2018 on the Azamara Pursuit! We took a Cruise on Azamara for our honeymoon and it was a disaster. I am about twice the size of Emma so you can imagine how difficult it was to use anything in the toilet. Our cruise was cut short because they wanted to renovate the ship and they were actively renovating the ship when we are on it. We had workers smashing off paint with hammers next to our room and flaking it off into the sea at port. They had the roof over the hallways out doing works and we were almost hit by debris while walking to dinner one night. There were works going on all over the ship while we were cruising. Many things on the ship did not work such as the AC which made it very uncomfortable. When we arrived at our destination the work on the ship went full on before anyone could get off. Overall it was horrible but what was worse was when we complained they said you get nothing bye. This experience was supposed to be 5* and we paid a 5* price but got treated like worthless cattle. The experience was so bad that we have never taken a cruise since and I can’t see us doing another one. Emma’s description is very accurate so keep that in mind you will be very uncomfortable if you are not tiny like her. I can not recommend strong enough to avoid this Cruise line it was a horrible experience and we felt totally ripped off. So you know, no one told us they would be renovating the ship or that they would cut the trip short missing ports for their convenience to do renovations, they just did it. Sorry I know this comment is very negative but I feel it is important to let potential customers know what they might expect from Azamara.

I have never had a butler either, but my understanding is that if you don't know what to do with one, they guide you as to what they can and cannot do for the guests. Thank you for the video!

Even this small room on a cruise ship is like three times the size of the Captain's stateroom on submarines like the USS Florida SSBN-728 (since converted to SSGN)! 🙂

Thank you!! Why people do not try to make their cabin (or tables) neater is beyond me. Courtesy to those supporting our cruise enjoyment isn't a hard ask.

Ooh, that's a great idea for when renovating my bathroom. Install a towel rail for visitors to be able to rest comfortably on the khazi.

Keychain tape measure, big block store near wherever you are from. Would try an inside cabin. I would travel with weird things though. Hot pots, soups, teas, coffees and take a new dollar store shower curtain and a narrower spring rod taken a part for travel. I loved our cabin stewards, left the balcony rooms spotless for our guys. Tipped them VERY well, they treated us like gold.

I have been on two Azamara cruises. LOVE them. But the shower is small. I was in a veranda suite both times. The shower was bigger than the one in this video but it is the one thing I don't like. I love the beds so much I looked into buying the same mattress. It was possible to do. Not from Azamara but from a company in Florida.

Five-foot ten inlander here. I was amused at one hotel in Germany where my head hit the ceiling of the shower, and yet nearly all of the men I met were several inches taller. It was in Bielefeld, which I've since learned doesn't exist.

You are so cute with the short hair. My first cruise ever was with Celebrity, last year. I leave on Dec 3 with my second on NCL. Like you, checking them all out. I have worked as a PADI Instructor for years. been all over the Caribbean, now doing it a different way.

Emma, I love you! We have been sailing with Azamara for more than 10 years now. We are devoted fans. The bathrooms, yes, we love the line, we all talk about the shower. I'm a modestly overweight American. I fit in, barely, literally and figuratively (and figuratively?). Unless you are certifiably very, very scuzzy, it's fine. It has a telephone sprayer, all anatomical parts can be reached, there is some splash over, for a quicky, it is fine! If you want a SHOWER, head up to the gym locker room. No issues there, and there is a steam room (no charge) to enhance the experience. They will know you by name by day 2. The food is fabulous. The bars are lovely. The passengers are invariably charming, affluent with no attitude, and always seeking the younger folks. (Home sickness, use it to your advantage!) All in all, like almost all of your reviews, very, very good. I just wish I liked inside rooms as much as you! OBTW: Should you choose to ditch your brother, those obstructed ocean view rooms on deck six are fantastic for 1 person. 2 people, don't do it!

We did a 16 night cruise with Azamara, I really had no issue with the shower, nor did OH who is not a small person. We are old enough to remember shower curtains and over bath showers in small baths, maybe that’s why. Anyway, no problem with having a shower, on the cruise, absolutely fine.

I have a shower over my bath at home, but it’s much more spacious than this. Glad you didn’t have any problems. 😀❤️

Probably ok if travelling with OH but not sure I would like it with a sibling like Emma does. Where would you get dressed for starters 🤷
@Hildred62 жыл бұрын
@@Victorflange that’s not a shower size issue, the bathroom was small but not too small to apply body lotion etc and put bathrobe on post shower. OH tends to go to the bar for a drink while we take turns in the bathroom anyway, which works well, there’s no shortage of places to sit and read or have a drink etc
@Hildred62 жыл бұрын
@@EmmaCruises Emma yes, maybe it’s my age, the bathrooms in the 70’s were tiny but we never knew anything else. I honestly never though it was too small on Azamara though definitely not large. I realise that showers have become bigger and bigger over the years, most have a large walk in now.

In the usa, at hotels, if we leave lots of trash, or towels, or don’t have time to clean up before leaving for the last time, we will leave a tip for the maids depending on the size of the room and how cluttered the room, but usually around $20.

I cannot believe no one else noticed that error. I think she meant to say 15 square *meters* which would translate to approximately 161 ft² (that is still small but is at least tolerable).

If you have an iPhone, it comes with a MEASURE app, where you just point the camera at one end and go to the other end, and you have a measurement.
