About 5:30 in to the video and I have some thoughts (that are potentially answered later in the video): I don’t think everything needs to be so finite. If you do another 365 project in the future, if you don’t, that answer doesn’t really matter. What I will say is that it sounds like you’re lacking purpose. Why do another year long project? It’s worth finding a reason to keep doing them, a project that uses the repetitive every day imagery to its advantage. Brainstorming on subject matter for such a project sounds like a worth while investment of time to me, in your specific case. There’s obviously something inspiring for you about the timeliness of it. Another feeling I get from the video is that you’re ready for subject matter that’s bigger than yourself (and there’s definitely some projecting from me there). Ask yourself about your passions outside of photography. What can you create that changes things? What would make you want to photograph 365 days in a row? (Edit) Also worth mentioning, you may never find those answers, and that’s okay too. Even just thinking about your own answers offers guidance. My favorite projects are those convoluted and confused bodies of work that the artist doesn’t fully understand anyways. That connects with my experience of life.

I'm not lacking purpose at all, it's more that the constraints of a 365 Project just don't really work for me anymore. I like the marking of time of 365 Project, which is why I keep coming back to it, but I think I need to expand on the "time" aspect instead of just doing this same format over and over. Honestly, I don't really care if subject matter is bigger than me or not. In fact, I probably am even more interested in subject matter that is small. I think a lot of photographers fall into a trap of looking to large concepts when really that gets too mushy and uninteresting. I'm more interested in finding something with some punch or something more observational even. I've got a lot of ideas I've been working on that I will feature on this channel throughout the year, I'm just looking forward to the end of the low hum of this 365 project that takes up a little too much bandwidth for what it's worth.

so funny you missed one but still technically 365. this was great and you once again nailed the reasons

This is food for thought. Alternatives to 365 could be 52 or 12. A 52 project could be weekly mini projects, eg, shooting a roll of 120 film once a week. The 12 project could be shooting different techniques on a roll of 135 film once a month. A new subsciber BIG👍🏻s up

I enjoyed what you shared in this podcast, especially the insight about such a project being more about photography than the photographer by its nature. But I do think that a project about the photographer is certainly possible. I think the value of such a project depends on whether the photographer seeks to adhere to something for themselves or with an audience - that may or may not be privy to or care about the project - in mind. One word of advice about audio: watch your plosives. The accumulated effect of a constant barrage of plosives hitting my ears resulted in a lot of listener fatigue. Either use a pop filter or change the angle of the microphone so that it isn't directly in the path of the air expelled from your mouth.

Thanks for this, gave me a lot to think about. I'm just finishing up my digital 366, my 5th one-photo-a-day project, and have recently purchased the I-2. I had been thinking about doing a 365 with it (that's how I found your channel) but you are right, another 365 is probably not the way to go now. I still need to learn the dark secrets of the I-2, but I'll find a gentler and more focussed (forgive the pun) way to do that. Cheers and Merry Everything to you and yours. cool hat 😉

@@fraggleroks someone else that has done 5 365s, and has a Polaroid I-2?? There must be very few people in that category on this earth 😂 Doing a Polaroid 365 is cool but I’m looking forward to saving the resources this next year. Thanks for watching!! Merry Christmas!
