I think government should pay you and I think your videos will be an inspiration to everyone who watches your videos to travel even to the most remote places of Russia. I appreciate that she avoids run-down places, which no doubt exist in Russia as they exist worldwide. Eli always makes me happy. In Canada, the winters are long, cold, wet, and days are short. And in our Beautiful British Columbia, we also have broken sidewalks, potholes in the streets and blocks of homeless people in hour major city. So Eli, please continue showing us beauty.

Hello from Finland. Long time ago I used to live near to the Russian border and I visited Sortavala dozens of times in the 1990's and had many friends there. Of course I drove there via Ruskeala every time. My first trips to Sortavala were when it was the Soviet Union. Things have changed a lot since then. BTW, "Ruskeala" is Finnish and it can be translated as "brown village".

Well, the whole of Karelia WAS Finnish eighty years ago, and was taken from you by force from the Soviet Union (i.e., occupied), just like part of Ukraine is these days by the Russian Federation. - Maybe the Russians want to give it back to you some day?
@oh2mp
@oh2mp 4 ай бұрын
@@Jobst_van_Delft actually not the whole Karelia. A half of it has never been territory of Finland as it's quite big. Russians will never want to give that part that used to be Finland back. They have the attitude that what has one day been Russia, it will always be Russia. And in fact we Finns don't even want it back because it has been totally ruined in those decades after Russia stole it from us.

This is such an interesting video. Steam trains are less efficient in many ways, but, travelling on a train like this which is maintained in period can "transport" the traveller back to an earlier time and place. There is almost no better way to experience history. I hope that the train in its present state is maintained so that many people can experience and learn about earlier times. Awesome vid Eli.

In fact Sortavala and Ruskeala are not "heart" of Russia but originally Finnish towns.

Eli rocking the 'hard-hat over the woolly-hat' look, there, in the marble-quarry. Definitely the new 'hot trend' for Spring / Summer 2022... 😉

WOW. Another wonderful adventure! Your videos are so well done. I loved that beautiful train! I would like to visit Russia just to ride in that train. Our Amtrak trains in American pale in comparison. The food looks so delicious there. Here's a correction. When you wrote in the subtitle "blood warm," it should be spelled bloodworm for the animal. Looking forward to your next video!

Thanks Eli. It's great to go exploring the North with you. I used to live in Alaska. I also used to live in New York City. I agree a little town can be just as interesting as a great city.
