I have the f5, I got mine wet in a rain storm, forgot it wasn't stainless, and it rusted and pitted after 2 days in a soaking wet sheath. I just took the micarta off, then started at 240 grit and worked it back to 2500 grit, I then used a ferric acid etch on the part under the micarta and used mineral oil on the blade. The initial coat is now gone and its shiny but, I am shocked by how much it pitted in two days. Live and learn.

Im glad to see that you're still using Grumpys! Those rust erasers are awesome! 👍

I have been using my $15 Ganzo every day for the last 3 years. No rust. No fuss.

People seem to forget that 3v is not a stainless steel. It contains 7% chromium which falls below the 11% mark to be considered a stainless steel despite having some stainless properties.

They sell Flitz at the Spyderco FOS. I bought some the last time I was in Golden visiting family. BTW, your package should be to you tomorrow (Friday). It's showing that it arrived at the Hawley, PA 18428 Post Office & is being prepared for delivery. Also FYI, it's okay to read on camera if that's what you choose to do.

I've actually used rust erasers to sharpen knives when I was too lazy to use whetstones. As for coating the blade, I normally use a mineral oil so that it's safe for food. Of course, the downside is that when it wears off, you need another application.

I've got lots of non stainless blades. It does get annoying keeping them constantly lubricated to prevent rust. I like 3v. But I don't understand why lots of people say it's nearly impossible to rust. Clearly, it rusts like many other non stainless steels do.

Did you use the "Grumpy's" on the knife before your camping trip?
@cutlerylover Жыл бұрын
no, I took maybe 14 knives camping specifically for testing and none of them were treated with anything before I took them

*Such an expensive knife! This is a punishment for sloppiness. You have to take care of your tools so that they don't get damaged by your own sloppiness. This knife should be taken away from you as a punishment for your sloppiness!*

I’d be disappointed if a knife made for camping rusted so easily from brief exposure to humidity.

You don’t know much about blade steels, do you lol.

@@Mr1121628 Most corrosion resistant steels will not rust with brief exposure to humidity for a day or two. Read up on steel types and their properties. Not all steels are equal, fella.

Actually its an excellent made knife with a premium steel (CPM 3v) but the blade steel is just not stainless thats all, like all tools steels or carbon steels they rust easier, im not disappointed at all in any way and this didnt effect the knife at all unless you like it perfect looking...even stainless and other corrosion resistant steels do rust they just take a lot more to start rusting...Long story short its not the knife at all its me the user didnt dry it enough after usage and it was used in the rain as well not just humidity...
@rando27enco Жыл бұрын
@@georgewashington30123V isn’t a corrosion resistant steel. It only has like 8% chromium. Plus you have to take in to account where he lives, finish, ect. For someone trying to throw the book at people, you would do well to read it yourself.
